Nice resort! Great food. The rooms need some renovations along with the rest of the resort. Josefat’s the BEST bartender!!!!! The weather was perfect, not too hot and you can feel a nice breeze in the afternoon. The beach was ok, a bit of seaweed… the kids had a blast

Take all the negative reviews with a pinch of salt, we had a great time!

(We're from the UK). A few days before we were due to go away we stumbled upon the tidal wave of bad reviews being submitted by guests staying at this hotel, and I think it would be fair to say it unsettled us a little bit. However, we persevered and we are very glad we didn't listen to all the negative reviews! Some of the things people complain about are fair to a point - the hotel is looking a bit tired in places, especially the rooms (fixtures and fittings), but it was still a nice room with a swim up pool. When it rains water pools across the walkways, but without fail there were always people with big squeegees trying to get rid of it all. And there is the occasional whiff of drain/stagnant water/mangrove swap... but... its a hotel built on a swamp, so what do you expect? Other things in the negative reviews we just couldn't reconcile at all. The staff were absolutely lovely; super helpful, friendly, polite and there were SO MANY staff. We never had to wait more than 3 or 4 minutes to be served at a bar. In our experience, tipping made absolutely no difference to the level of service we received. We tipped $1 per drink when we got served at the pool or a pool bar, a few $ per day to the maid, and we occasionally left $5 or $10 at dinner if we had a particularly attentive waiter or waitress. The staff seemed thankful for them, but at no point were we pressured into tipping. What wasn't great was a lot of other guests being very rude and condescending to staff, we did feel sorry for them. The pools were awesome, super clean, and despite complaints about people putting towels on sunbeds, we always found there were spare beds around, even when it hit 9/10am. Maybe we're just used to getting up at 7/8am to put towels on beds in Europe, but it didn't bother us - we've been to places where it was far worse. The food in the main buffet was awesome - literally every cuisine you could imagine was served there and it was decent quality - we were very happy with the selection and quality. The restaurants were ok, nothing special in our opinion, but nice to get some table service every now and then. We managed to get a table at all the places we wanted to eat at by booking via the app shortly after midnight. Drinks were great, nice cocktails, always fresh filtered water on tap at the pool bar, and the wine was decent. We didn't pay for Diamond package or anything like that. We did try the casino a few times, it was pretty quiet and the minimum bets were high - didn't last long there! Its also not affiliated with the hotel, and the drinks were rubbish. We did decide to try out the spa, the prices online and on the spa menu are eye watering, but following advice from another review on here, when we got approached by a member of staff trying to sell treatments, we just said we'd love to go but it was too expensive - and he cut the cost by about half for us! We paid about $250 for a 1-hour couples' massages and we didn't realise it but this also included an hour's spa experience beforehand. Men and women were separated for this experience which included sauna, steam room and hot bath. Completely unexpected, but amazing, relaxing and the massage was epic (it hurt so much in a good way!). We left feeling that we actually had our money's worth out of the experience. Like a lot of people, we did end up with dodgy tummies towards the end of the trip. We weren't surprised, we had drinks with ice in them and the occasional salad so it kind of felt inevitable. It is what it is. Whilst we were there we heard lots of people complaining to each other or to staff about the hotel. We really didn't get it, we came on the trip not expecting a 5* hotel or service; lets be realistic, the price you're paying is not 5*. But we went intending to make the most of it, and we did and had a wonderful time. People should stop complaining and get on with it!

    Wonderful holiday!

We stayed at the Royalton Jan 22 to Jan 31, diamond club. We loved our stay. Our room 6220, beautiful room. There is evidence of some wear and tear but overall pretty nice room. The food was amazing. There is so much variety. Even the big Marche Buffet was about the best I’ve ever been to. I’ve said a few times that had we discovered the braised lamb shank at the Caribbean restaurant on the first night, instead of the last, I might have gone back and had that at least three or four more times. It was amazing. Because we were diamond club, we were given a butler. Usually in the daytime we had a butler named Gina, she was amazing. If we wanted to make reservations at one of the à la carte restaurants, just fire a text to Gina and she would text back in no time saying it was all taken care of. Also had an issue with our safe and Gina took care of it. Was very luxurious. In the evening our butler was named Oscar, equally as spectacular. He always made sure we had a fresh bucket of ice in our room every evening. He would run into us in the lobby or hallway and he remembered our names and always had to make sure we had what we needed. Overall a wonderful vacation, the only downside that I could talk about, is the same downside that is happening at almost every other resort that we’ve been to. It’s the pool chair monopoly. There was even a little bit of a fight one morning as we had been accused of leaving our towels out for hours, etc. when we had in fact, not had them out for more than an hour. something needs to be done about this. It makes it very stressful. As I feel setting your alarm to get a good chair is not a holiday. Another resort we were at gave you free rein to pick a chair after two hours of nobody claiming it other than the towel and the cheap item reserving it. Some poolside chairs would be reserved for four and even five hours. And then when the people finally did show up, they sat and read a book. This is front row pool side. My husband and I use the pool and get out in the chair occasionally to warm up or check our phones, etc. I feel the people that are using the pool should have the pool side chairs so their items are closer to them towels, beach bags, etc. anyways, I don’t know if this will ever be rectified, but it’s a downside to just about every resort we’ve been to. Overall, I would recommend this resort to anybody. The drinks and the food and the staff made it one of the best holidays we’ve ever been on.

Not the service you usually get in Mexico

Not been great, if your not up before 6am forget about getting a bed, or if you do manage to get one without a cushion and ask 5-6 time for one your get no help, bar service is terrible one person at each bar with the amount of people here is crazy ,also with Canadians & Americans who don’t know how to que doesn’t help , we also booked a table at the Mexican , waited over an hour for just one of our starters to arrive, after another half hour waiting for my partners starter and drink we gave up and went to the buffet. The buffet is great nice and fresh compared to the la carte restaurants, This hotel is not the top notch best service you get in Mexico, go else where Iberostar much better service

    Royalton Riveria Cancun

Bar none the best buffet we've ever had at a resort. Lots of cooking stations and huge selection - pasta, stir fry, fresh fish, steaks, burgers, chicken, roast, pork, soups, breads, buns, children's section, salads, smoothie area, lots of fresh fruit...honestly, if you can't find something to eat here....you are too picky. Room was very nice, bed comfortable. Lots of hot water for showers, housekeeping very good. Staff very pleasant. The ala carte reservation app was terrible. You had to stay up til just past midnight to have a hope of getting a table anywhere and it would not let you book for more than 2. We utilized a consierge - Danial Carranza, who got us in at the Caribbean, Zen and Hunter Steak House. He was very friendly and helped us out! The steakhouse was above excellent. It's a large resort so always noisy. They do have a family pool area and adults only area. We sat at the Theatre pool where the resort entertainment team did aquasize every morning and ran lots of things during the day. The elevator in our building was very slow so we did the stairs. Towel service at various locations around the resort - lots of towels. They could use more chairs/loungers around the pool area as lots of people were getting up early to put out towels to ensure they had a place to sit. The resort is about 1/2 hour from the airport, our pickup from and delivery to the resort was handled by Nexus without issue. Just a note that the resort is very isolated so we didn't have the option of walking/shopping unless we took a taxi into Cancun or to Playa del Carmen. There is a casino on site but we aren't gamblers so never went in. We thought the shops on the resort were very expensive for our Cdn dollar so we never purchased anything. Overall, I'd give this resort my recommendation as a great place to stay!
