Mar 05, 2026Absolute joke of a place
If i could score 0 I would. We returned after 12 days at the start of February. Anything that could have gone wrong did. They had sold out of all their rooms when we arrived so waited over 2 hours to be give a room that ended up being occupied by another family! 3 days into our holiday our power went off in our room, we reported it to reception they told us to wait at the room 4.5 hours later we were still sat waiting - we missed our dinner reservation (don’t even get me started on dinner reservations) and we also missed the buffet. Other bits in the room went wrong but the staff just didn’t care. They were so over run by people there wasn’t enough staff to deal with them. It’s not ideal for family’s because groups of people were coming over for long weekend breaks and just gettin absolutley bladdered. We’ve come home just exhausted from the whole thing. When people asked if we’ve had a nice holiday we’ve simply replied no. I’m so glad to be home and never would return or recommend this place it’s a joke!

Demy, Jose, Mauricio, Damon, Erick and the entire waiting/bartender staff were excellent. All the employees were very welcoming and warm. My lady and I really enjoyed the room and the property in general. The beach is beautiful and all the bars and attractions are nicely spaced out. The quality of alcohol wasn't the best but the food was good. There was a large group 18 year olds that came with their school the last two days of our stay. Probably close to 200 students. Wasn't ideal for relaxation but I guess that comes with the territory for an all ages resort and the drinking age being 18. We still had a great time!

Lovely, but could be better.
The butler, housekeeping and dining staff were great. The butler Luis was lovely and helpeful, the dining staff Abigail was great and the housekeeping were efficient. We had some issues being treated differently than the American tourists, whether is was being served non-premium drinks despite being in the Diamond Club, or being dismissed for not offering gratuity, the service could have been better. The staff asking for the spa and excursions were a little pushy, and need to show some restraint. Otherwise, the resort is lovely, the restaurants (apart from the shocking service at Grazie - again being less favoured than Americans) was otherwise great and the mixologist Jair was great. The Diamond club was not worth it, and the activities could be more suited for different age groups instead of being targeted at young Americans. The differentiation between the Diamond, Hideaway or other clubs could be more clearer.

Day one and already winning. 10/10 no notes and pleasant Expedia service surprise.
Just wanted to give a quick LARGE shoutout to all staff at Royalton Riviera Cancun. But especially our Expedia rep Andy. Didn’t know that was a thing until Last night! To be honest, my fiancé and friend booked this through Expedia and I was a bit skeptical. I’ve always booked through airlines. So I didn't even think Expedia had "service" once you actually got to the resort. We’re pretty easygoing and were ready to just vibe regardless, but we were actually so shocked!! We got here last night and Andy had already worked it out so we’re in side-by-side swim-up rooms in a prime spot. We are so so sooooooo happy! We didn't even have to ask, he just had it handled before we even landed. He’s been a massive bonus to the trip so far. Super chill, very nice, not pushy at all, and he’s already helping us out with some cool spots and spa discounts and booking restaurants. Day 1 has been a win. Excited for the rest of the week! I may just be changing my tune about Expedia. Personally, I always do a spa day. Cannot. Wait! Stay tuned! Will update! In other news that people ask about or were complaining about: Food is great. It was easy to get pool space and chairs but we don’t do the main pool Seaweed is crazy, but ocean is beautiful Rooms are clean and amenities are fantastic Reservations for restaurants was easy. We booked the whole week . We are not diamond club or anything. Staff is so friendly. 10/10 No notes. Pool temps. Our swim up in building 9 is literally bath water. Love it. My fiancé HATES cold water. (He clearly doesn’t know he’s Canadian AND from Newfoundland lol) Cutie pic of us being romantic and gross for fun from our swim up. We love it here. Staying forever.
