Overpriced hotel...
We just completed our fourth stay at The Royal Lahaina and we will not be going back. Over the last years, prices have skyrocketed and doesn't reflect the quality you would expect. Rooms are more expensive but now only serviced every other day ! The self parking at US$40 (AU$62) per day is a joke and is double the price from our last stay. Buffet breakfast was included in our package, one of the reasons we took this package, but it was totally disappointing : no choice, terrible presentation and terrible quality. However the restaurant area is pretty nice. The Royal Scoop Cafe has also changed for the worse : no self service coffee anymore and some staff very unfriendly. But beach activities staff are definitely the worst, unkind, disinterested and lazy. The standing paddle board hour, which should be complementary, is US$35. As an advanced paddler, I asked for a specific board which was available and easily accessed but the staff refused replying that they were all the same size, which was obviously a lie. They gave me a first paddle with a missing part so I asked for another one, I only realised on the water that it was broken so I came back to the desk. They tried to give me a third one, very heavy, also broken and not even a SUP paddle. I had to insist for them to provide me with a decent one. At NO POINT did the staff apologise but clearly showed their annoyance. I saw 4 other guests desperately trying to use paddle boards unsuccessfully and stop after a few minutes, which is not surprising with inappropriate equipment. This kind of "service" is not very honest. You expect correct equipment when you pay full price ! The price of court hire at The Tennis Ranch (one of the main reasons we came back to this hotel) has doubled in price the last years but courts are useless. On the positive side, the view from the "partial ocean view room" is amazing, rooms are large (even if they would need an update), the gym is very good, the beach is beautiful and not crowded, the gardens are amazing and extremely well maintained, the free shuttle for Whalers Village mall is very convenient, water refill stations are a great idea... However, the hotel remains really overpriced...

Perfect for couples trip
Beautiful and clean resort, great view from our room, and the service was amazing. The private beach is great and the pool and restaurants are lovely! Would definitely recommend.

My Experience at the Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows
The Resort is to old to charge the same prices as better resorts. Considering the amount we spent per night I expect everything to be clean in the room(bungalow in this case) but it wasn't. The room had dirty carpet, Dirty AC Filter, Dirty Windows and Ants in the bath, Kitchen & Living Room. The Staff cleaned every thing mention but for that kind of money most of those things should have been done before we got the room. Waiting around for the staff to clean and fight the ants took time out of our vacation. This place isn't that bad they just need to do more to provide a better experience or charge less. 3 out of 5 from my family.

Amazing value for having a beautiful beach literally steps from the property
We really loved staying at the Royal Lahaina for a week in early June. The positives: The weather was fantastic - it never rained once. The beach right outside the hotel is beyond amazing and is literally steps from the hotel and pool area, which is not the case for many other hotels in Maui. It is pristine, calm, and private/quiet. We went to the southern part of Kaanapali a few times for dinner and excursions (it's a 15 minutes walk on a beachfront walking path from the Royal Lahaina) and we are very happy we stayed at the Royal Lahaina. The area the hotel is is much quieter, more peaceful, and less touristy, but you have Whaler's Village with all the excursions and restaurants at your fingertips. The room was spacious and clean, and we had a gorgeous oceanfront room and a balcony. The staff was all very nice and accommodating; your room is turned down every other day. There is a store on site that sells snacks, drinks, beach gear, and souvenirs. There is valet parking for $45/day and self-parking for $40/day; the self-parking lot is large and a short walk to the hotel entrance. There are two pools with loungers and plenty of umbrellas. It wasn't too hard to find a spot - there were usually empty loungers. It never felt too crowded. On site there is a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner; a beach bar serving lunch/snacks, and an ice cream parlor with coffee, breakfast, lunch, and dessert, which was very convenient. Our room rate came with the breakfast buffet daily, which had a lot of options, as well as free tickets to the Myths of Maui Luau on the property. The towels are nice and plush. The resort fee ($40/day) comes with sunscreen available at the beach activities hut by the pool. You can rent paddle boards and snorkeling gear for the day. There are lawn games and lots of comfortable furniture spread out on the property so there are lots of places to hang out. The "Branches" area of the hotel has free live music nightly, and serves drinks and snacks for purchase. The negatives: There are no free loungers on the beach; you either need to bring your own or rent for $100 for two chairs and an umbrella (most of the other hotels in the area seemed to have a similar practice, which does mean the beach is less crowded and there is more room to walk, which is nice). The on-site restaurant is very overpriced (but that's just standard Maui). Finally, the pool areas were often very dirty in the morning from the evening before -- the chairs had bird poop, the tables were dirty, and there were food and drinks left out. That was our biggest gripe, which is an easy fix and would go a long way. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and thought it was excellent value. The beach and the accessibility to it is the gem of this place.
