Hard to say how many stars I would give this hotel

It is very hard to say how many stars I would give this hotel! These observations are as honest as possible so guests can make an informed choice. FOOD - 1 star - we struggled to find anything to eat here. Choice was terrible and it was either raw or overcooked. Nothing had any flavour. How on earth do they make Jerk Chicken tasteless? We lost weight over the 2 weeks All Inclusive so if you are on a diet this hotel would be a good choice :-) Entertainment -3 stars. Great dancers and acts but could have had more variety. Totally spoilt by compare who absolutely loved himself. He did nothing to enhance the entertainment and spoilt it by making it all about him and mocking members of the audience. POOLS - 3 stars. Lots to choose from and loved it that there was a quiet adults pool. The pools do need some maintenance though as lots of cracked and missing tiles plus rough surfaces around the pools. I didn’t think they were always that clean either as they sometimes had a scum on them and one part of the adults pool had a definite green rim to it that hadn’t been cleaned at all. ROOMS 4 stars - good size and very clean. Comfortable beds. GROUNDS - 5 stars - absolutely stunning and beautifully kept by the tireless working gardeners. LOCATION - 5 stars. Set by a beautiful sandy beach. Loved all the traditional features e.g. cobbles through centre. Handy for exploring. AVAILABILITY - 1 star. Why keep closing restaurants when it is so hard for guests to make reservations? We also saw lots of empty tables when no reservations were left. Really confused as to why there was only one towel exchange open sometimes as a very long way for disabled or elderly to walk to change towels. The hotel could also do with an ATM or another way of getting money out. STAFF - 5 stars - very friendly and work so hard to make your stay enjoyable.

An Old Favourite With Some New Enhancements

This was our fourth stay at the RDC and our first since Covid. The hotel seems to have made a bit of a shift due to Covid as we noticed more Mexican families than before which we totally enjoyed. Especially watching the young children playing on the beach. We had always wanted to stay in Bock 1, the Oceanfront Block and we were not disappointed. Due to a problem with the A/C in Block 1, were were offered a different room at check in or offered several perks to stay in our assigned room. We took the perks which included reservations for the week at the a la cart restaurants, free late checkout and a nice bottle of champagne on ice.The room was beautiful and the A/C worked plenty well for us. The beach view from the third floor is breathtaking. A couple of the a la cart restaurants were closed but the remaining ones were delightful. The WiFi has been expanded to the entire site including the beach. The beer is Modelo and the liquor was all name brand. We had no complaints with the food, especially the omelette gals who had a huge assortment of things to add to your omelette. The Mexican night meal was amazing! But best of all is the hotel spa. The prices were exactly the same as on the street and included free use of the sauna. If you want an amazing masseuse, ask for Dorca. I have massages every day in Mexico and she was defintely the best....so I had 2 massages and saunas there.

Good Value, Great Service, Some Notes – My Review

In short, you get a lot of value considering the price range this resort is in, you’ll have a great experience, just be mindful you’re paying less than more luxurious resorts and so you get a few less perks here, but you’ll still have enough of the base requirements to make this a recommended stay. Warning, if you booked ‘Ocean Front’ you might want to double check ahead if you’ll get it, as many guests were getting switched down to other types of accommodations, stating the AC was not working properly in that block. Quick shout out before the review to Luis Romero at Flamingos Restaurant, and Angel at Fiesta Bar (really everyone at Fiesta Bar), for their outstanding customer service. The rooms are nice and clean, maybe look a bit dated, but they are functional. A very nice perk at this place is that each room has its own AC unit, so you can control (really control it), and make it as cool as you want. The bed is firm but comfortable, there were 4 pillows with different softness so you can choose what works better for you. At other resorts you’ll be hard pressed to find more than a couple of English channels on TV, but here they have over a dozen channels, from news, to cartoons, to movies, it’s great for when you’re cooling down in the room. You don’t get a fridge in the room, and they only have a handful of them in the resort, so getting one might be tricky. You have to ask for the key for the safe, which might have an additional charge. Some people mentioned the hot water is not that hot, but seriously who wants a hot shower when it’s about 30C out there. Electrical outlets are limited, you might get one on each side of the bed, plus one near the sink, so you might want to bring a little charging station if you have lots of devices. There was no WiFi in the room, but there is WiFi in some common areas (you’ll see a sign). The bandwidth went, based on the time of day (and I guess people using it) from as little as 2 Mbps and as high as 8 Mbps, so try and get your shows and songs in offline mode before you travel. The food is really good, with some Mexican food items tasting as good as if you were at a local family’s home. There usually are fresh and delicious fruits (for breakfast) or vegetables (lunch, dinner) and dressing section, a cold salads section (which usually includes ceviche, guacamole and salsa), a hot plates section which changes often, an American style food section (hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza), and at the Tropical there is a wood oven where they make some paninis and pizzas. On Mexican night (I think it’s Thursday) they have mariachi playing at the buffets, and the food offers some really nice goodies like tamales and mole. To make reservations on the theme restaurants you need to use their app and at 8:00 AM try to get a spot, as they only have a 6pm and 7:30pm spots each day. The Italian restaurant was the best one in my opinion, as it has the best food, service and it has AC. The other ones are outdoors, and service is not as great, still OK, and the food was OK too, just the Japanese restaurant was mostly vegetables, rice, some chicken, and you only get 5 sushi pieces at the beginning to share, so I would leave that one for last, if there is time. The nightly entertainment consists of some really good live musical shows. Just want to give you a heads up about the seating, there are only a few chairs, located front and center, the rest is concrete seating, so if you don’t think you can do 90 minutes of sitting on concrete, you might want to get there early to grab a chair. Because of how this area is built, coliseum style, there is very little breeze and the heat is irradiating from the concrete catching the sun all day, so during over 30C days you might not be very comfortable (temperature wise) here, even though the shows are at 9PM. The beach has plenty of palapas and loungers, so we were really happy spending most of our day by the ocean. There is an adult only, quiet area and swimming pool, which is indeed quiet, it has its own bar, and there are not a lot of people around. The grounds are well kept, lots of dessert plants, some flowers, trees, colours in the buildings and décor, so make sure you walk around the whole resort and enjoy it all. There are lots of bars, some open until 1AM, and they have the basics (rum, vodka, tequila, spiced rum, clamato, etc.) to make a wide assortment of drinks, just nothing that requires specialty stuff (like Mojitos as they require mint leaves), but you get pina coladas, margaritas, micheladas, and many other typical cocktails. Beer is lager on tap, and is always nice and cold. Scotch is either JB or William Lawson. I really liked that at Fiesta Bar they play music suited to the crowd. If you’re looking for the little library, it’s by the front desk, near the bell boy area, it’s a red case that looks like it could house an extinguisher or a hose in case of fire, but it’s actually full of books and magazines. Front desk service left a bit to be desired, especially when a bus load of people arrives and they have only 2 ladies at the front, only one of which could speak English, so most guests had to wait for a while to interact with the one English speaking clerk to check in. Could have been bad luck, as checkout was a breeze. If you have any issues, and their public relations team hears about it (maybe from your local Westjet rep), they get on it right away, and make sure the issue is either resolved or to make up for it in some other way. Aside from the few little issues mentioned, we liked this resort and will most likely come back. This is a really good option at this price range, so if you’re not too fuzzy or picky, I believe you will have a great time here.

    Definitely not four star

Arrived for a 10 day stay at the Royal De Cameron , staff is friendly and for the most part the property is well kept however there are very run down areas. There are no watersports anymore and no mini dive courses etc and the organized events are very hard to find and know when they are. The food is aweful in the buffets overcooked and processed food. The restaurants are only available sometimes and there is no real way for individuals to know which is available when. And the food there isn't awesome either other than the Mediterranean it was very nice. I would say this is a three star not a four perhaps covid destroyed this pretty gem.

Cleanliness of room on arrival terrible

This was our 5th time back , my husband and I love this property for the beautiful grounds, great food and lovely staff. The numerous pools are also a bonus. We are not looking for fancy rooms, just clean and unfortunately our room 6304 had many issues upon arrival. There was a very large fresh blood stain on the seteen tiny orthodontic elastics on the tile floor, dust bunnies along edges of the room and under/ behind furniture. The toilet had not been cleaned and we only had 1 towel. No hangers in the closet. 3 staff came and did a great job cleaning after we brought it to the attention of front desk so that was good but the arrival experience was not great.
