    Smokers Paradise

First off, what a great team they have. Housekeeping and Maintenance have such huge rolls keeping the resort in working order. Our room and the grounds are very clean. Very friendly and accommodating team members. They are the highlight of this resort. Almost everywhere you go here, with the exception of the rooms and the theatre, expect to be trying to move away from the smoke. There are ashtrays just everywhere. Even sitting in the restaurant eating, it’s drifting in. Truly a smokers paradise. The food is plentiful however low in quality and flavour. If you leave the resort you will be able to enjoy some of the tastes of Mexico. The theatre, the MC and the dancers are amazing. The pools, again, smoke smoke smoke. It’s difficult to enjoy. Our time was best enjoyed hopping into an Uber and leaving for the day. Getting real food and better quality drinks elsewhere. Some people love this place, but it just was not for us.

    Brutal - two star max

I start off by saying we travel to Cuba, Dominican & Mexico to all inclusive resorts and this by far the poorest, not a four star - maybe a two star. We were given a room in block six, the furthest from everything. I feel they put you in six and if you don't complain they leave you there. We moved to Block 4 and the room was twice as good, even smelled better and had a view of the ocean, that was the best part of our vacation. No wifi except in lobby, spotty a couple other places, no lounge chair cushions, you had to buy blow up air mattress, Wow, how embarrassing is that, people carrying these things to and from the beach and pools. A-la cartes had to be booked early in the morning on an app, yes down in the lobby because there is no wifi in your room. Buffets Don't have a great selection of entrees, deserts, salads, breakfast was okay, how could you screw up frying eggs. No there is not lots of lounge chairs unless you want to get up a six in the morning for the beach lounge chairs. No fridge in the room, all you are supplied with is two small bottles of water, so after you come to room after a long day and have a shower, you have to go and walk to the closet bar and get a drink, and no there isn't a lot of tables at the bar either. The staff are friendly that's why we go to Mexico, by the way the people in cuba and DR are friendly as well. This place sucked, we will not be going back.

Security Issues and in need of a refresh

The resort itself is well kept. Grounds are immaculate. However, there are major security issues. First off, the lock on your door was the old locking doorknob. No deadbolt but a chain. One kick and your in. You need a key to unlock the doorknob which you have to wiggle and force to get it in the doorknob correctly. The key has your room number on it! If I lost my key, now someone has access to my room and there is no way to protect guests like with a card lock that can simply be cancelled and reissued. Also, with a lock like this, there is no audit trail so if someone was in your room, say staff with a master, you cannot see who was in your room. I did have an issue once elsewhere where a cleaning lady took beer from the fridge and they wanted to charge me. It was the audit that saved me. The rooms while clean are horrible in my opinion. When I think of what one needs in a hotel room, you need a comfy bed and a hot shower. Some may argue a TV. The beds were ok. The mattress is definitely on the hard side. The curtains did not fit all the way across the patio door so we could never really get the room dark. The bathroom sink had no cold water and the shower literally dribbled water. Never turning on the cold in the shower resulted in a warm shower but never hot. Someone said the hot water is actually turned off for a couple of hours through the day but I cannot validate that to be true. The shampoo etc was never replenished. We actually had to go and buy some. There is no coffee maker but they do have coffee you can grab by the pool on the morning. We were in block2 behind the lobby so we did get spotty internet. But the location was loud. Our room overlooked the activity pool and beach. Pumping music and mics during the day. At night we over looked the lobby lounge where people were screaming and chanting. The ping pong tables were directly below where people felt the need to holler and cheer at night. Then behind us was the evening shows which went until 10-10:30 nightly. So, if you are one to hit the hay early, I suggest to not request an ocean view room and stay in a farther location. One other point, the rooms are truly not sound proof. The lady next door to us became quite ill one night and the vomiting kept us up like it was in our own room. Not a complaint, poor girl. Just an FYI that everyone can hear everything Food- The a la cartes were good. We ate at all of them and easily got reservations. Book via the app exactly at 8:00 they book up quickly.I don’t think they are all open all the time but rotate. The app will only show the ones that are available that night. Highly recommend the steakhouse- this is a Brazilian style. Jap Jap has no fixed menu, they come with dishes and constantly serve you. You t have two choices there, take it or leave it.The buffets were just that buffet food. Definitely not the best buffet I’ve had in my life but I always found something to eat. Some complained about the meals especially breakfast being repetitive but they had every breakfast food you can imagine so there was lots of choice. Eggs made to order, toast,French toast, pancakes, cereal, fruit and yogurt, pastries, sausage and bacon and so much more. Lots of choices. I will say the fruit and veggies were exceptionally fresh and delicious The animation team was spectacular. They made sitting poolside fun but also left you alone if you wanted that. Iguana tours, dance classes, aquasize, tequila volleyball and basket ball, request your favourite music. Lots to do. All in all, the drinks were cold, the weather warm so I’ll call it a win. I would not stay again however without at least a room refresh and upgrading the locks. The rating reflects the resort overall. If just rating on security it would have got a lower rating.

I would likely go there again....

We visited Royal Decameron Jan 13 - 21, 2023 What is good about Royal Decameron; Awesome Beach - very large, great sand and we always found a beach chair. Very clean beach. This is a large site - lots of pools and bars and again we always found a lounger to sit by the pool. They had two types of dark beer Medelo and Victoria - I like dark beers. They have two snack bars and I found what I was looking for during the day The air conditioners in Block 6 (where we stayed) were impressive... some resort air conditioning can barely cool a room off but these were capable of freezing you out if you wanted - but we dialed them to a reasonable 20C most of the time. They had Pepsi - I like Pepsi better than Coke. The evening entertainment was far above average - I was impressed with the show most nights. The location is great for walking into Bucerias - lots of little shops, bars and restaurants. Staff was great - very helpful and accommodating.

The Royal Decameron is a 3.8 in my opinion

The rooms could use a little love, but were clean The food at the buffets was really good The system to book a la cartes is not great. Sitting are limited and only available at 6:00, 7:30 and 9:00. This could be improved by being first come, first served The grounds are very clean and beautifual The beach and pools are all excellent The entertainment staff are amazing Our beds were comfortable, but the pillows a bit hard The wifi is ok, but times out quick and not available throughout the resort Check-in was quick and efficient The price for a late check-out kept changing our last day and too be frank a very irratating experience The rate to exchange CDN to peso's is $11, so I would suggest bringing your own and small currency for tips was limited
