A DIRTY FRAT GETAWAY
Absolutely the worst experience I have had at an all inclusive resort. Aside from the amount of filth and empty cups / plates all over the stairwells, beach area and waste bins....the overall cleanliness is not up to par. The bathrooms in the rooms have dated fixtures and a lack of outlets. College kids have the run of this place, screaming and yelling until 4am highly, and no security to control this at all. The restaurants are lacking al a carte, and the buffet areas (seating) is dirty, and tables left dirty for gar too long. Wish we knew that this place was a frat resort with absolute no control. Never again.
Had an amazing time. Entertainment crew was top notch. All the riu parties and pool bar activities were executed perfectly by staff. Food on the resort was decent. I'm not really a picky eater but I've had better at other Riu resorts I been to. Overall great trip and would definitely visit back.
Was happy that we were given a room by our friends, last year we were stuck above the stage. Workers were kind and at lunch recognized our group when a couple of us came in and quickly added tables for us. Food was so so. A few members of our group had problems with it and missed a day of vacation. The only problem with the room was the tiny ants everywhere. The pillows were horrible . Using the app we were able to get what we needed. They were very prompt.
DO NOT RECOMMEND
such a shame for a beautiful country and its natural landscape. we will never visit Dominican again. This trip was such a waste, very dissapointing, basically catfished.. we were 6 people, it took 1 hour to get us checked in, they mixed up our names for each room, therefore the wifi woudn't connect for some of us, no one bothered explaining the process either. we asked for a quiet area, we were given rooms right infront of the latin entertainement stage. poor room decor & cleanliness. phone & tv didn't work & no room service. when we finally moved the next day, we had to call 3 times to fix the coffee machine in that room as well. it's extremely difficult to reach anyone when you try calling. As for food, everything is buffet, only ate pizza & fries the whole week. very repetitive options. mostly rude & disrespectful staff, a few were nice (to be fair) clearly underpaid we couldnt even get drunk because the alcohol is watered down. we had to buy our own alcohol off resort. defenitely 18 year old party vibe. we got prank called twice while sleeping in the middle of the night. beach was nice but sooo busy & noisy to top it off, we wanted to get away from the resort so we booked a couple excursions and they were a flop. They were so rushed. It seems that $2200 per person doesn't get you much in the Dominican Republic.
Worst resort I have ever been to.
This has been the worst resort I have ever stayed at. Our family travels often, we have stayed at Riu in many different places and have enjoyed them. We have even stayed at the Riu Palace in DR. This was a trip with friends. The first night I let the front desk know that the outlets were not working - four times I was asked to go to the front desk to tell them. They would not log it over the phone. This is one of the many things that was wrong with our room. The front door would not close, the shower leaked onto the bathroom floor, the refrigerator door would not close, our front door would not close properly, our keys did not work, and of course the outlets. I made an appointment to see the manager the next day. He was a bit defensive and went on to tell me that they have many guests that return year after year. He did have the front door and outlets fixed. The customer service or lack there of is atrocious. The towel cabana staff was the absolute worst - rude is putting it mild. A guy at the steakhouse beach had said to one of my friends that speaks fluent Spanish & English. “Maybe you should have paid attention to what I said.” We were just asking about the reservations. The food is below average. Almost every restaurant is a buffet minus the steakhouse. You cannot make reservations ahead of time, it’s an odd system. Five out of the eight of us have been sick with diarrhea and vomiting. The property itself looks to have been neglected. There is trash everywhere. The elevators in our building have been out of service for most of our trip - no signs of course. The buttons are missing as well as a piece missing on the inside of one (it worked the first night). One of the hallways is completely dark as all of the lights are out. Do not even consider this an option if you’re coming to the Dominican.
