Lovely Bahama vacation
This is a much smaller Riu than the others we have been to..keep it in mind when you go..the beach is very small and not much to see if you like to walk..walking the street was enjoyable and quick walk to Atlantis…food is pretty much the same every day but good..steak house was nothing special..staff was friendly and entertainers tried hard to put on a show….music everywhere was way to loud..make no mistake people do reserve chairs at the pool..rooms were clean…needs some updating..but if you are looking for a reasonably priced Bahamas vacation this is a lovely place to visit….

First Bahamas trip
My first trip to Bahamas. Good food. Pool decking was very crowded. Not much room on the beach for laying out. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Television didn’t work the last day there. The evening entertainment wasn’t that good.

Do not waste your money. Waste of my valuable time. I could have starved here if I tried one more night. Refund! Help
I was not happy or impressed with the amount of money I spent. I am waiting on a refund. I stayed 1 out of the 3 evenings I booked. Immediately I noticed mold and felt sick. No one wants to be sick on a special trip. The staff were not receptive when I said I could not continue my stay. I’m Still waiting on my refund. I was told it was going to come from the Rui palace corporate team. The food was bad. The restaurants were not accessible! It’s supposed to be included. I asked the staff were the included resort quality food was and they pointed to a little refrigerator in the back of a somewhat Sleazy bar. I ate a sandwich that was way worse than any airline food. I cried a bit eating it and immediately tried to check out. Not my style I wanted a warm meal on my holiday. I expect a refund !!!! The drinks were cheap well with subpar mixers I had one and checked into another hotel. I highly recommended Baha mar. Riu palace was not up to even basic standards. The bed was like a rock I did not get rest, drinks or food. Very inconsistent with any other “resort” I stayed at. Still waiting on my refund from corporate. I will sue them if I do not get it. It was that terrible.

Not Your Average Riu
I have stayed at Riu properties before, so when I booked this one, I assumed I would love it just as I loved the others. Boy was I wrong. For starters, this Riu is much smaller than the other properties I have visited. When we arrived, the room only had lukewarm water, no hot. We called downstairs and they came to fix it. There were only four specialty restaurants available for reservations. When we got there Tuesday, all of the reservations were booked for Tuesday and Wednesday. I was able to make a reservation for Thursday, but I had to wait until Wednesday to make a reservation for Friday. I guess the process only allows reservations two days in advance. Since the resort is so small, everyone ends up being gathered in the same place. The two pools are back to back to each other, with one pool bar and one swim up bar, but they are both closer to the small pool. Coming back from the beach, there is only one station to rinse your feet off at. There were no kind of kayak, paddleboard, or any nonmotorized water sports going on during the week. There was one bar that was open 24 hours, which was the same place where the shows happened; hence the reason everyone is gathered together all the time. The staff in the restaurants were very accommodating, eager to serve, friendly, and polite. Clearly the restaurant manager knows how to train. That front desk though!!!! The customer service there was COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!! You would think with that being the main point of contact, they would be more interested in treating their guests well. On Wednesday, we went to the front desk and asked about possibly upgrading. We were told that we would be able to upgrade on Thursday. We were also told that we would have to pay for the upgrade right then before they would even grant it. We were given the opportunity to look at an upgraded room before rendering payment. We were leaving a partial ocean view room and upgrading to an ocean front. The sample room we looked at was much larger, had a walk in closet unlike the one we were currently in and a view of the ocean. The previous room had a view of the pool, two rooftops, and a lot of chairs and other debris piled in a corner. We paid for the upgraded room and were told we would receive a call Thursday morning about moving. Thursday morning there was no call. I called downstairs and inquired about why we had received no call. I was told that they did not want to wake us by calling too early. (It was 10:00 am at this point). They told me that we would have to check out of our current room at noon to get the new room. What they failed to inform us was that we would essentially be homeless from 12 pm-3 pm as they had no rooms available until people checked out and housekeeping cleaned the rooms. So why was there a need to call us? Just tell us we can move in at 3. Now we have nowhere to go and our luggage is with the polite bellboy. (Romell was awesome yall) When we finally get our room hours later, we were shocked to find that while this room did have the ocean view, there was no walk in closet! We had the same small closet as before! I called downstairs to inform them that we were not given an apples to apples room. The guy I spoke to let me ramble on for five minutes before placing me on hold and then just passing the phone off to the supervisor so I could explain all over again. I explained the situation to Terry, the desk supervisor, who was VERY rude, unaccommodating, unempathetic, and insincere. She could care less what room we were shown, she insisted that the rooms were the same size, just different designs. When I asked how could we be compensated since we were clearly mislead by thinking we were going to get a walk in closet and we did not. It's not like I was expecting my money back or anything, but a small credit at the spa, or some kind gesture would have been appreciated. Instead, Terry very rudely repeated three times, "There's no compensation for you ma'am." After all of that, I go to take a shower, and THERE IS NO HOT WATER AGAIN! Plus the water was only coming out of the handheld and not the overhead showerhead. Pressing the button did not work unless you physically held the button down continuously. My husband called down to let them know. After dinner we went to the front desk and I was explaining to the only nice lady up there what happened. Terry's nosy butt came over there after eavesdropping asking could she help, only to tell us again that she could not help. Not to mention, they never notified the maintenance man about the shower issues. The nice lady got him to to go fix it. When we finally left the Riu on Saturday, someone took our keys from us and told us we were good to go. She did not cut our all inclusive wristbands off, ask how our stay was, nor wish us a safe flight. Overall, this did not even feel like a Riu property, and I was very disappointed with the level of service that we received while on our trip. Highly do not recommend this location.

Horrible food, beds and mold in hotel. Refused to let me check out. Nightmare hotel choice
The food was completely inedible. The restaurants for the all inclusive food were all sold out the whole trip. The hotel staff refused to release the reservation. It was my worst hotel choice. It did not have the classy or luxurious atmosphere I had at several other properties that I paid less for. My eyes and throat closed up from having an allergic reaction to mold in the guest floors. The bed was so hard and old it had buttons on top of it. It was very uncomfortable and I could not sleep. This hotel is horrible and refused to refund me so I had to check out anyway and pay for another hotel. It was a really bad experience and I will make sure to get a refund and keep writing these reviews because they are very true. Don’t waste your hard earned vacation. Money on cheap tasting well alcohol burned hot dogs and no availability in any of the restaurants. This was the low light of my entire trip and cost me a fortune with absolutely no positive returns, except a beautiful view.
