Great place to stay
This resort was amazing! if I had to make any suggestions would be better in entertainment in the evening. Like a variety show not just singers. My room was very humid but friends of ours room wasn’t so I feel that is a hit and miss. Food was fabulous and so were the drinks!
Quality reposrt, beautiful destination
We stayed to Riu Palace Macao in 2023 and had a great time, so we decided to return in 2024. The facility has been totally renovated and is awesome. The staff were welcoming and professional. Several exceptional staff members from our 2023 stay are still there and were as fantastic as we remembered. The rooms are spacious and clean; the grounds are beautiful and the beach goes on for miles. We enjoyed being able to visit the neighboring Riu resorts since they are a close walk from the Macao. We will certainly return in the future.
Wonderful stay with EXCELLENT staff, excellent food, and a great beach location
This is an excellent destination. The improvements made with the recent renovation are a definite plus. In addition, the Riu was able to retain their excellent staff during the renovations. Kudos to the Riu as the staff here are the best I have found in our extensive travels. Pros: First and foremost are the staff. They all treat you like family and are vested in making your time special. It started with the delightful Charles at the front desk. In the restaurants, we found Wilson, Marco, Edinzon, and Adrian to be the best service ever. Don't get me wrong, almost all of the servers are attentive - but these guys were our best of friends. THANK YOU! At the pool bar, Bermudez is wonderful. He is cranking out the drinks and always time for a smile and warm greeting. Adony in the evenings is so much fun at the lobby bar. From day/beach/pool/evening servers, hats off to Elvin and Viktor. These guys were great. Overall, this hotel is not understaffed and it shows with the excellent service. The entertainment team here does a great job keeping everyone happy. We especially had fun in the evenings with Day who played cards with us and shared her hair with me (I'm bald - grin). The food is some of the best we have found in our travels. It's always hot, varied, and exceptionally delicious. We tried the Japanese specialty restaurant and it was very good. We gravitated back to the nightly buffet simply due to the outstanding food and service. The beach is extensive and not crowded. We walked each morning for almost 2 miles (round trip) on the beach. There are plenty of sun loungers on the beach so you don't have to play the "save the chair" game at 5am. There are plenty of options for shade or full sun too. The beach was kept meticulously clean. The pool areas are large and have plenty of sun loungers. Even so, there are those who will reserve a spot early. Don't worry, there are plenty to go around. Pools are kept clean and warm. The grounds are kept clean and are pretty with well lit paths at night. Cons: The cons are very limited. It is the comfort of the rooms. Specifically the air conditioning. First the thermostats are limited out at 21C (70F). But it is strangely a humid cool. The rooms were uncomfortably damp and sleeping was a challenge due to this. I'm not sure why some Caribbean hotels undersize their air conditioners? In our last trip (see Aruba post), the unit worked well. We switched it on at night and off during the day. At the Macao, it ran 100% wide open 24/7 and never got close to 21C. Overall, the rooms are nicely appointed, kept clean by the daytime attendants, and the beds would be comfortable if they didn't feel so damp. Another suggestion would be to add screens to your lanai doors. We would have slept with the doors open and "air" off. Overall: This is an excellent hotel destination with an extra special staff, excellent dining options, ample chairs, nice beach, tons of options for sun or shade. Did I mention the great staff?? :-> If you can deal with a warm/moist room, this will be at the top of your favorites.
Amazing, relaxing stay
Went for 5 days, 4 nights. This is an all inclusive hotel. It included alcohol and tips. The staff at the hotel is amazingly friendly. I suggest you give tips ($1 goes very far in this country) to your bartenders, and anyone who is exceptionally accommodating to you. The rooms are spacious, the beach and pools are wonderful and there are games, shows, and parties that you can attend - all included.
Back for 14th year in a row
We stayed from Feb 8th to the 22nd. First thing the renovations were beautiful. They have added pools to rooms so you have a swimup room. Only saw one couple in theirs for the two weeks. Not worth the increase everyone in the other 3 pools. The elite club is a ripoff. They have their own bar premium drinks but nobody in there. Everyone was in the new lobby area with the new huge outdoor TV screen where we watched the super bowl. There are the Italian steak house Japanese They don't cook in front of you. Sports bar . The Krystal and the buffett. Everyone gets to use these . The only difference in the buffett was the elite walked in the front door everyone else the side door. Elite had same food but served to them. The Elite is not worth it in our opinion. Also we saw people with different colored wrist bands wondering through with no one stopping them. Everyone was drinking in main pool this was never allowed in previous years you could only drink in the swimup pool bar. People would smoke in the elevators around the pool. L No consideration. For none smokers like us and many others. Animation team were great getting people together for games horse shoes cornhole ladder golf plinko bocce ball etc. Big shout out to Urne, Willy, Valentina, and Richard . There was no seaweed met lots of nice people from all over. We willl be returning in 2025 for our 15th year. Any questions don't hesitate to ask. Don't read bad reviews you just can't please everyone.
