Not worth the money at all

The resort is visually nice, however when we arrived the cons outway the pros. It is said that we have access to the surrounding Rius if we stay at the Palace, however there are details not being mentioned. The Bavaro resort next door, (which had a lot we wanted to try/see) is closed for 4 months for renovations. No where had this been mentioned to us until we went down to the reception asking which way it was. The spa "happened" to be closed the day we reserved. Even if you go to the spa, its so lackluster that your gonna leave in 20 minutes. The staff was rude telling us how we need to go in a cold plunge pool first, then this then that...im at a spa just let me relax. The dominican street, where a lot of shops were supposedly set up for gifts and such was also closed. Whether or not i was going to buy anything its still part of the resort and as such is reflected in the price I pay (which was too much for this resort). There are 4 riu parties a week, each with their theme, but all in the same location. The parties were fun, but during our stay one of the four parties were cancelled. There is the pattern of "closed/cancelled" things happening in this resort. Turns out the party was NOT cancelled, the staff only let riu republica guests in and women from the other resorts such as the Palace. This is very shady and unfair considering I paid for these services/activities which are closed or being sneakily closed...and before riu maybe replies to my review theyll try to say it never happened, but i know women personally who were let in by staff...but yet theyll still deny it. The staff in general are nice but there are a lot who are rude and unproffesional. My girlfriend was hit on/touched on the shoulder/catcalled and even asked to come out with staff from the resort. Highly unproffesional, even if it is a "party" resort they need to understand consent and overall improve their professionality. When i brought this up witht the reception they told me that it is in their "culture" to do these things?? Not a very good look when you say that. No one should be made felt uncomfortable like that just to be told its "in our culture". The pools are filthy, the only clean one was the big pool with not a lot of people in it. The food was actually great! The buffet restaurant was air conditioned and there was always something you could find to eat. The a la cartes were good besides the italian. The room was clean, however the towels were not. Its not necesarily the fault of the cleaners themselves, but the resort for not supplying them with cleaner sheets. The nightclub was ok, its either completely empty or full. The staff were told recently maybe last year, that they are not allowed to go to the nightclub, only the bartenders etc. This was because staff would try to get with the tourist women, a common theme I guess. OverallI would not recommend this resort, too many things were closed/cancelled and if we brough up complaints it would just be waived off, sorta like the staff are upset at you for being at the resort and because they dont want to deal with complaints. I received a paper with saying sorry addressed to my girlfriend and I, which they called me a Mrs in the letter (just goes to show they dont care) and a bottle of mamajuana and a pack of coffee same brand as the free pack in your room. After coming here I feel so unsatified with my trip that I feel like I have to book another vacation somewhere else.

    Happy relaxing holiday

Our first time in this hotel on recommendation from friends. The hotel is excellent and is built on a very colonial style of building with open verandas and lattice towers, the gardens and pool area's are kept in excellent condition there are three pools one of which is a swim up bar. The reception staff have been very good and helpful in sorting out a small hiccup with the beds they simply moved us to a room with a large double bed as we requested. I would also like to commend one individual who went above and beyond to find me batteries for my hearing aids as I had not put spare one's in the case FraY is the young man's name. We are now into the second week of our stay have had a lovely time, although we have been a little lazy and not participating in the meny activities the animation team provide, having said that they don't press you if you don't want to have a go. The beach area is shaded with palm trees and the sandy beach is to die for., miles of soft white sand ( bring beach shoes) as the sand gets very hot in the day. There's three or four themed restaurants which we have tried and the food is excellent in all. The main restaurant catering for a wide range of tastes so all can find something that will suit them. I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone but I must also say it is adult only here no children which may not suit everyone.

    Very good, fun time

This resort was very clean and beautiful. I had an amazing time. The staff is very welcoming and nice. They accommodated to all our needs and ensured we had the best stay. Especially Manuel and Ricky who are apart of the entertainment crew, they are excellent. They did a very good job at entertaining and making our trip more enjoyable. The only downfall is the food. I would say that the steakhouse is by far the best place to eat at the resort if you are looking for a decent meal. Our server Domingo at the steakhouse was excellent as well. I would definently recommend staying here.

    Poor food quality

The food variety and quality was very poor in both, the main restaurant ( buffet style) and speciality restaurant ( we tried the Italian). We assume that Riu serves mainly convenience food, which has been prepared commercially and requires minimum further preparation on spot. If you check the Menu of the Italian speciality restaurant, you will find exactly the same offer in different Rius in different countries. The lasagne for example comes with portobello mushrooms. It was however impossible for the kitchen to prepare a lasagne without the mushrooms. The waiter told us that the lasagne is ready prepared, so they can not change the ingredients. That it a clear sign that the food is not prepared freshly. The lasagne tasted very strange by the way. My buttered tagliatelle tasted fade and had a watery consistency. At the buffet restaurant (Patio) the main course was lukewarm at best. The hotel should re-think the method of keeping the food warm. After one week the dinner gets really boring as there is no real variety in the offer. The same burger being offered during the lunchtime at Pepe’s Grill is being offered at dinner. You can imagine how it tastes a lukewarm burger patty. The fresh fruit variety was great at least. The service of the waiters was great too, the hotel itself always clean, with a nice garden and beautiful beach. Despite the fact that the room was renovated in September 2023 we had already first signs of mould in the shower. Overall we had an „okay“ holiday, being in off-season ( June) we had still a decent value for our money , but the food is probably the same during the high season too and it that case I don’t think we were happy with the value for our money. I would however not choose any Riu hotel in the near future as long as the food quality is not improved . I am not the only traveller having the same impression about the food quality.

    The entertainment crew

My stay at this resort was very good, it was clean, and has excellent service. What made it more enjoyable though is the entertainment crew. Specifically Manuel and Ricky, they bring out a lot of energy into this resort and make it a lot of fun for everyone.
