Had a Blast!
Just returned from a 5 day trip with my wife and two other couples. Let me start off saying we had a blast! The entire staff from the cleaning to the dining staff and of course the entertainment team do a great job at making you feel welcome every day. While staying at the palace you will have the option to use the neighboring Riu properties which I liked. We found ourselves flip flopping through each property depending on our mood and what events were occurring. If you want a little more action go over to the Reggae situated next door for a few hours them come back when ready. the same with Mo bay which is were the white party was. Our rooms were cleaned everyday and we requested extra items through the app and they were delivered to our room without an issue. The food options were plentiful and the staff while dining were attentive. The only negative thing for me was the beach water. It wasn't what I expected. I'm accustomed to being able to see my feet through the water while in the Caribbean, for some reason it wasn't like that at this location but that's not on Riu. Again Riu cant control that part, but I had to mention the one con for me. I would definitely recommend this property as you will be entertained, well fed and taken care of by the staff. We had a ball!
This was our first time staying at the Riu Palace, my wife and I was on vacation and celebrating ours wedding anniversary, we had an awesome time, service in the dining area was excellent, thanks to our servers Keneisha,Felissa, Anique and their supervisor Horace, Yusanie sang a beautiful song for us for our anniversary in the Italian Restaurant. Portia and Briana help us with our check in as we had a problem with our booking and we made sure we got sorted out and got the room we wanted, thanks to the entertainment crew how kept us on our feet on the dance floor. The Hotel grounds and rooms were always clean and smelled nice. I would recommend anyone looking for a great place to stay for a vacation to go to the Riu Palace
Riu palace Jamaica pool and beach staff amazing
Had an amazing 2 weeks at the Riu palace. Everyone works so hard to make your stay so relaxing. The rooms could do with a little update but they were spotlessly clean. The buffet restaurant was the best for food in our opinion . The steak restaurant was the better out of the other restaurants you have to book, then the Italian. We had some really good trips. Dunns river and nine mile ( Bob Marley) also catamaran and ricks cafe amazing. All the staff at the Riu palace were great, but I have to say the beautiful Vanessa round the pool and beach area always had a lovely friendly smile on her face and would alway be singing as she brings your drinks. We was never without a drink and she was so lovely to talk to, will always remember her 🙂 Natalie
Not a 5* but still had a good time!
My family of 6 stayed at the Riu Palace Jamaica ( Montego Bay) Nov 19-26. The highlights- definitely the Entertainment crew: Spark-in-the-dark, Johnny Bravo, Spiderman, Starfire, Dr Fun fun, Short boss and DJ Fuzzy and a special shout out to the fabulous Bartenders - Mr.Dan-the-man and Paul and our buffet man- Audley - our long lost Robinson “cousin” . @crew- You might recall Andy who did the most original version of the worm and made a great sugared donut! :-) Some “challenges”:- 1.Wi- Fi was sporadic and dropped to our LTE plan repeatedly, major charges await! 2.Decor fit and finish - so much purple and little clinical - a bit of wood trim would go a long way to warm It up And a little more care with the paint ? 3.The Airplanes! Pro- close to the airport meant less bus time/ more beach time, but the price you paid was the planes coming and going overhead as you are right under the flight path! 4.Beach sand - MoBay is rocky and full of coral so all beaches are manmade. There had been some storms that washed away so much of the sand- it was just sad 5.Female staff ( specifically wait staff and front reception) - I hate to say it but the attitudes were consistently bad and rude with only a few exceptions! 6.No AC in lobby bar and reception - sooooo hot and Humid! 7.No premium alcohol - not even Appleton Estates? 8.Activities posted on the app for Riu Reggae not accurate - we were disappointed a few times For these reasons this is not a 5 star resort - but with a bit of correction it could be close to a 5… if only you could fix those planes ! In general food was good ! The Buffet- good selection, lots of local cuisine, outside station will make on demand omelettes, eggs, etc. I think I ate my weight in fruits! Roasted ham at breakfast - yum! the Italian was excellent- highly recommend the lamb chops and osso buco- but if you are hungry order an additional entree or make your way to the Buffet afterwards Zen(Asian)- the steak was excellent,as was the salmon - the seared tuna was very very overdone , nothing like the photo ( we could not eat it) - and yes we made our way to the Buffet afterwards …. The steakhouse - now to be fair this is our Main food group and at home we are privileged to have access to excellent steaks but for a five star this was very disappointing- the steak in the Asian restaurant was actually better. We ended up canceling our second steakhouse reservation in favour of the Italian later that week Krystal was excellent - we all ordered different entrees and they were all good! The wine ? Meh. Again, not our usual level of choice … but not awful. Just not 5 star selection. The beach bash was a blast! Danced the night away and our dancing son enjoyed the chance to show his JA groove despite his injured knee from beach Volleyball The beach had been washed out and was very stony and craggy. Water was also murky as there had been a bad storm prior to our arrival- it took 5 days to clear up! We tried going next door but not much better and way too crowded! As mentioned my son got hurt playing beach volleyball at the Riu Reggae- not enough sand and way too uneven. The sand should be fluffed up for play and more sand added to ensure guest safety. The court at MoBay is not any better… The pools were excellent. Kept very clean. The rooms, public spaces and even the walkways were immaculate! The gardeners and landscapers do an excellent job. For a tip and a smile ask the lead landscaper to find you a fresh coconut and sugar cane! The beach and pool were steps away from each other which worked well in our group as we were often split between on previous vacations There was plenty of space and many loungers available - more than enough Bali beds although you had to get up early to tag one. They were comfy and encouraged many a seaside nap! We did not visit the spa, so sorry - cannot comment… THERE is NO tennis at this resort. They used to have one - back in 2019. Our travel site still has this listed as an amenity and it was one of the criteria to make this our choice of resort! Very disappointed Overall, the Entertainment crew made our vacation. Other than that I would rate this a 4 star tops in its current state. Would we go back?- likely not. There are many more true 5 stars to choose from, but if I hear there is a party at Dr FunFun’s house we are all in!
Nice trip. Only complaint, person restocking the mini bar, walking in our room, without waiting for our response “we’re in the room”. Food was tasty, but way too many flies in the outside seating of restaurants,
