10/10
We had such a great time — it was an absolutely fun experience from start to finish! Fredy was amazing: friendly, energetic, and made everyone feel comfortable right away. He kept the atmosphere lively and full of laughter, and his attention to detail really stood out. Everything ran smoothly because of his professionalism and upbeat attitude. You could tell he genuinely cared about making sure everyone enjoyed themselves. Whether it was keeping things organized or adding those personal touches that make a big difference, Fredy went above and beyond. I’d definitely recommend him — he made the day unforgettable!

Can't wait to come back to the Riu Palace Costa Majure - this resort is spectacular in every way.
. My wife and I travelled with one other couple (our friends are more like family and travelling with them is amazing). Flight from Toronto was shorter than I expected. Due to traffic congestion the ride from the airport to the hotel was approximately 90 minutes. Once we got there everything was amazing. Check in was fast, we originally had a room facing the parking lot. We asked for a room facing the garden and they were able to accommodate us. We were given two rooms side by side facing the garden area with a view of the ocean - perfect. Rooms were quite large and very clean. When we arrived, we had balloons in our room and a towel animal on the bed - very welcoming. Staff brought our bags to our rooms very quickly and made sure we were comfortable and knew where everything was. The resort is absolutely beautiful, 5 pools, one specifically for volleyball which was nice. Beach had loads of palm trees and more than enough lounge chairs. We would get to the beach around 10:30 am and never had a problem finding four lounge chairs together. Also loads of chairs around the pools as well. Costa Majure beach is beautiful for walking along. It has big waves so kids need to be watched closely, but the sound of the waves all day was so relaxing. The Palace is right next to the Riu Dunamar (which we have stayed at 3 times and would also recommend but the Palace is a definite upgrade) which has a water park for kids and adults. Huge water slides for the older crowd and the brave youngsters. There is a path between the two resorts for easy access. The Palace and the Dunamar both are family resorts with children allowed. If you are looking for adult only the Riu Latino is just up the beach a bit. A friend of mine has been to the Riu Latino at least 4 times and loves it. Enrique and Christo looked after getting our drinks on the beach - they were very pleasant and took very good care of us. We only tried two of the ala carte restaurants (Italian and Gourmet) and both were very nice. Good food, good service, nice ambience. The ala cartes cannot be booked ahead of time; you have to go to the restaurant and wait for a table to come available. I think there are better ways to take reservations - a couple of times we tried the ala carte and we they were full and not taking any more names. The buffet had a huge selection of food - definitely something that would appeal to everyone All bars were well staffed and service was excellent. The highlight bar was definitely the Piano bar - large, luxurious place to have a drink and a nice desert or a pre-dinner cocktail. This room was beautiful and we would go their after the beach and again before dinner. Again, servers were very pleasant. The deserts in the piano bar were a definite 10 out of 10 - cherry cheesecake, carrot cake, double fudge chocolate cake - makes my mouth water just thinking about it. They provide peanuts at chips at the tables but the deserts are worth every single calorie. Lots of fancy drink choices as well, plus a special area providing Gin drinks which seemed very popular. Evening entertainment was exactly that - entertaining with live performances. After the entertainment they would either have a live band or karoake. The live music always seemed to get people dancing which was nice. The music was all in spanish so no songs that we knew but a lot of people took advantage of the dance floor area. I am sure I am missing something but this was one of, if not the best resort I have been two and we go to Mexico at least twice a year. We have stayed at other Riu Palaces and this was is definitely a step up. I will absolutely be recommending this to my friends, and I will definitely return.

Not the typical RIU experience
I was really looking forward to the RIU experience, but this resort completely missed the mark. The vibe is extremely quiet — better suited for seniors or families with small kids than anyone looking for fun or energy. The food was awful — bland, repetitive, and nothing like what I’ve seen and heard about at other RIUs. Even the à la carte restaurants felt like the same buffet food recycled. The staff were kind, but overall this place should be advertised honestly as a calm, family-style resort — not a 5-star experience. Definitely not worth the hype or price.

Excellent in most areas but disappointing speciality restaurants
This is the 20th Riu hotel we have stayed in which speaks for itself in terms of how much we enjoy them. The Riu Palace Costa Mujeres rates highly in terms of overall service and we thoroughly enjoyed our week. We received a warm welcome from Juan at reception and were shown to a beautiful, spacious, well-appointed swim up room where a welcome gift of chocolate strawberries awaited us. The cleaning staff worked their magic every day and the room was kept spotlessly clean with the mini bar being refilled on a daily basis. The hotel is very large although it never felt uncomfortably busy. There were always plenty of sun beds available around the pools and on the beach. There was some seaweed on the beach during our stay but they worked hard to tidy it up as much as possible. We found all the staff in the buffet restaurant and the bar friendly and welcoming. Special shout out to Cruz in the Square Garden bar who remembered us every evening and knew exactly which drinks we liked. The drinks were mostly good quality with the exception of the red wines which were not to our taste. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast offering, especially the freshly made omelettes which were perfect every time. There was a good selection in the buffet at dinner, and we found the food there well presented and of good quality. The same could not be said of the speciality restaurants unfortunately. The Italian and Mexican restaurants seemed disorganised - we were shown to tables which weren’t fully set up and pretty much left to our own devices - and the food was bland and unappealing. The Krystal was only marginally better, although we enjoyed the Steakhouse. In conclusion, the Riu Palace Costa Mujeres has much to recommend it and we did enjoy our visit. With a more enjoyable experience in the speciality restaurants, we would definitely have scored it five stars.
