    4 day getaway

I am greatly impressed by Riu Negril. It was some thing unexpected, and the first thing that got me when I first arrived was the entrance that made me smile . After checking in with front narvdo for some reason put me and my fiancé in the wrong room and was place on the very top floor . It would not be a problem if Riu Negril had elevators but sadly they don’t . His attitude made my fiancé feel very uncomfortable so after we seen the room that he put us in I went back to the front desk and I was greeted by Brianna who is just a delight, a joy to be around and I told her the situation and with the approval of her manager or supervisor whichever one was standing behind her She moved us down to the lower floor like I have requested in the first place when I called called the resort on Friday. Anytime I pass by she’s always smiling. She’s always alert and ready to take the day with any challenges. The resort is small it is very inviting and it is much better than RIU OCHO RIOS . I would come back . This a perfect getaway even though it’s a family resort . I want to that out cleaning lady who is just fabulous. I want to should out the entire dinner room , I swear you all amazes me in how hard you guys work (lifting rays and drink but very very polite. The entertainment team is great but I would say after seeing their pre-show performances I was concerned at the energy they had on stage especially to a Jamaican theme . There were some members who had no energy. I understand that you guys tired but you need to know how to push yourself to be great dancers. I am an activist host and dancer for a cruise line so I know what I am talking about But I enjoyed it. The foam party was off the chain #youbettawurk . Thank you Riu Negril for making our stay wonderful…

Wow, what a holiday, if we could go back tomorrow we would. There are not enough superlatives to describe the amazing holiday we had at the Riu Negril. The entertainment team are wonderful and ensures everyone has the best time. Their evening performances and daily games are always fun. A big shout-out to Romel, Miguel and Bryan who made our holiday extra special. Each pool area is very spacious with plenty of sun loungers around them therefore, there was no need to get up early to reserve them. The lifeguards do impose no children in the adult pool. The sandy beach and crystal clear water is a thing of beauty and it is clearly well maintained. If you want to do any excursions etc a taxi will be required to leave the hotel but the hotel can sort this out for you. We ate at all of the restaurants and the food was lovely although our favourite was the gourmet. The only criticisms of the hotel was that there are no lifts which made it very difficult for us to carry our cases onto the top floor and that the décor was a little outdated. The hotel is due to be refurbished later in the year. Finally all the staff were extremely friendly and always happy to help. We will be returning to Riu Negril.

    An enjoyable week

First and foremost, the staff here are a credit to the company. Although very laid back, they will do anything to help. They work incredibly hard every day. Our room did its job - I.e provide a comfortable bed and decent shower. Rooms were tidied on a daily basis. The sand on the beach is quite shallow and their are some rocks in certain area of the water. Once the sandy areas are found though, it makes fornpleasant bathing. The 'tents' that can be seen along the left hand side of the beach are shops selling the usual souvenirs etc. Due to global warming, the sea is right up to their entrance but a walk or 'wade' to the beaches that follow is pleasant. The shop keepers do the usual 'please come in and browse' but, to be fair, they do not hassle you as in some countries. They are very friendly, safe and laid back. Just telling them you are only looking today is suffice to be freed from parting with your money. I found it nice to support them and didn't feel the need to barter as the prices given seemed fair. I particularly enjoyed a purchase with Gareth at his Rise and Shine carving shack. A very talented man with little tools and the bonus of having a puppy called Lucky who he enjoys showing to dog lovers. The next hotel you come to is the Riu Palace - a look around it seemed to tell us that we were in the better of the two. Entertainment during the week had its good and bad points. Music groups were good and gave a taste of culture whereas the dancing group on the last night was boring. There are lots of Americans here who continue their enjoyment of tipping. This seems to give them priority over us brits who have chosen all-inclusive to avoid the need of tipping except, perhaps on the last day when those who made the experience a good one, can be shown appreciation. This can be frustrating whilst waiting to be served and somewhat unfair. With the exveption of our room, the complex only has one toilet facility which, for the men, is 3 urinals. When the cleaner has been, they are spotless but, you can imagine what they are like late at night during the entertainment. I also realised that those sitting at the pool bar didn't go to the toilet in the few hours they were there. They must have strong bladders! No children with us but there are children here. They seem happy and there are child-friendly facilities but, if I was taking children on holiday, I would look for something better. We took a trip to Rick's Cafe - was ok. A taxi from the hotel costs a total of $50 plus tip. Arrange with driver what time you want picking up. We found that an hour and half was more than enough here although others may consider eating or boat ride. The road conditions aren't the best and it takes about 40mins. There is no cash machine here. The taxi driver can take you to one 5 mins up the road within another complex. It gives money in US dollars plus a 6 dollar fee for $100 which seems to be the preferred currency. If, like the Americans, you like tipping, the reception will gladly swap large notes for $1's Food ample but, compared to other all-inclusives we have stayed in, it wasn't the best. The WiFi was frustratingly weak in all areas. Annoying having to keep signing in. It's believed this hotel is to undergo a refurbishment in August. If they build additional toilets appropriate for the number of guests and have a better wifi system, I would consider coming here again however, it's likely that I'll be trying other locations first. Falmouth being somewhere I'd like to enquire about.

    Very nice stay

Rooms were a dated but added character, the maid service was excellent , the bar staff and waiters/waitresses were not all friendly ,although they were in the minority, the entertainment team were always friendly and great fun , beach was clean and tidy , you need a wasp trapper by the beach bars though!!
