Oct 13, 2024Is Riu For you?!?!?
Check in: Pack your patience. We arrived at 4pm, lots of other ppl checking in as well. Greeted with rum punch. Stayed in family room w/ocean view. Very nice, clean fresh. Fully stocked bar. Experienced low pressure when flushing. Housekeeping unable to really ’fix’ so we just filled Trashcan with water and poured in toilet to flush. No problem for us, but adjust expectations in case this occurs in your room. If it’s more than 3 ppl with multiple devices, bring a power strip in luggage. Food: Bring snacks (declare them to customs during C-5). For reference, gift shop sells snacks, snickers are $6, pringles are $14… swim shoes are $23, you get the picture. 3 of 6 restaurants require reservations, make them all upon check in to ensure a seat. No food is served between 10:30-12 noon, and 3-6:30pm… so bring snacks!! Lots of ppl are going to recommend you try the KFC (because it’s the best kfc ever made) but even bother going to KFC, it’s not better, same chicken, same 11 herbs and spices. So you’d just be unnecessarily risking your life to cross the street to get to it. Plus, some local will offer to help you cross the street and expect payment in return. True story. There is a Burger King at safer distance, but go at your own risk. Amenities: Great! 4 pools, beachfront access, lots of activities and performances throughout the day. Staff: If you are a female and are traveling alone, try your best to keep interactions with female staff. I think this would be relevant in ANY Carribean resort. Some of The men here are extremely flirtatious. If that makes you uncomfortable, practice standing firm, saying no, don’t make small talk. An inch is a mile for them. If you are traveling along, don’t make a big announcement of it. Don’t share your room number. Bars: The swim bar is really run and relaxing!! Make sure to apply sunscreen as there is limited shade. The premade shots are not ‘true’ shots for safety purposes of course. All the drinks were delicious and bartenders were pleasant. Bring $1 singles for tipping, they work EXTREMELY HARD under the circumstances of heat, humidity and drunk people 😂. As always, pack a water bottle as to prevent dehydration. Buy waterproof uno cards, they were a blast!! The neon party is not at the pool, the parties are a bit different from the other Riu (promo Rio) chain locations. Entertainment/Activities: Fun, engaging and inclusive! All times of day too! Travel Excursion representatives: Always question and compare the prices of your excursions. The first & 2nd price they offer, is negotiable and is not the final price. They work off of commission, so if they are not attentive, then excuse yourself and check out the other excursion representatives in the lobby. They are all competitive but at the end of the day, the excursions are all done by the same vendors so feel free to book with whoever you like regardless of who arranged your ground transport. I’ll update after the trip, I have 2 more days here, so to be continued!

I am completely appalled by the poor customer service at Riu Montego Bay. I made a minor mistake when booking the room as a birthday gift for our nanny by putting my name instead of hers. When they arrived and realized the error, we communicated back and forth between the hotel and Priceline for 4 HOURS because the hotel could not explain clearly what needed to happen on their side to fix it. They left my nanny and her friend in their reception area crying their eyes out spending her whole actual birthday day there sitting on her luggage and did literally nothing to make up for this. We spent 1.2k on a gift for her to have a great time and they completely ruined it. Thanks a lot Riu Montego Bay.

Great vacation
Thanks to the friendly staff at the RIU Montego Bay for a great vacation. The nightly entertainment was good, the food selection and drinks were good. Room, bar and restaurant service was great.

The BEST RIU so far out of 6 countires
We rate it! We've stayed at several RiUs around the world but this is now our Favourite It's clean, staff are so helpful and appreciative when you leave a lol tip for there service. 5 pools so never crowded. Beautiful Mahoe Bay is calm with Catamaran pick up if ypu want a party boat. Food good selection. There's Whitter Village mall 5 mins walk or free shuttle for a local stop and Burger King across the road if you want a break from Carribean foods but o doubt it.
