Has potential - depending on what you're looking for
All in all, no real complaints. Never really encountered any unhelpful or unpleasant employees, so bonus there. Room was cleaned daily with nice towel animals as gifts daily as well. Probably a result of daily cash tip left for maid, but nice either way. Food was better than most resorts, but at the same time, a little underwhelming. Only really enjoyed 1 of the 4 different ala carte specialty restaurants and actually found ourselves hitting the buffet afterwards on 2 different occasions. Is that a reflection of the food or a picky wife? The buffet could have used a little mix-up. Did get a little repetitive. 95% of the dishes were the same every breakfast, lunch, and dinner setting. Located in a still being developed area, entertainment options are limited at best to just the resort, unless you want to book lots of expensive excursions or are content to stay on the resort property. There's just nothing around. No shopping district without taking an outrageously overpriced cab ride. So it's either the overpriced in-house store or the airport. Received a slight discount to golf at nearby Playa Mujeres Golf Club ($199). But that discount easily vanished when paying most expensive "rider fee" ($69) I've encountered at over a dozen international courses. Fantastic course. But not an all-inclusive course. Rates were, upcoming intended pun, on par with what I've paid in the past to golf internationally. But I digress, because the golf course isn't part of the resort. Enjoyed the adults only aspect. Loved the swim-up bar and the bartenders. A 24-hour bar was also nice. The staff definitely remembers tipping guests and will take good care of you as a result. I've just gotten used to bringing $200 in $1's with me for any resort stay and taking a handful with me at any given moment. Wife said on site spa was a little overpriced for her tastes, but nothing outrageously priced in comparison to other resorts. I'd be interested in returning once the area becomes a little more developed.

First vacation in several years so our expectations were high. They were met and then some
We went on a vacation together for first time in several years and we chose the Riu Latino in Playa Mujeres. Everything about the vacation was exceptional. We went with Sunwing who were first classfrom start to finish. The hotel and staff were kind, attentive and available for any needs. Plenty to chose from for dining and operate on a first come first serve basis. (the asian inspired restaurant was just ok). The buffet is massive and suits everyones needs. Best tacos ive ever had. Beach is fantastic and plenty of pool options. Great place

Riu is amazing
This is the second time staying at at a Riu, they don't disappoint. as usual all the people that work there are friendly and outgoing, from the groundskeepers to the ladies' that keep the restaurant spic and span. Riu is top notch for presenting a very clean environment. We had the pleasure of Brian serving us every morning at the buffet, he is such a beautiful soul and a very hard worker. the beach seemed like a hike the first day but you get used to it, it is clean with plenty of seating and as an extra bonus, the police are on the beach and are very approachable. My only complaint would be my room which was disappointing, we were supposed to have a courtyard view, but we got one room that was basically on the second floor roof facing another resort, second room was facing construction ite and having to deal with construction workers sometimes making catcalls at us, not fun because it was uncomfortable sitting on the balcony. We have stayed at the Riu Palace just down the road and i must say i prefer that hotel, but honestly it is a lovely resort and we would go again.
