Very Dated .. Grounds are Nice Rooms are YUCK

We arrived January 21-28 2023 Check in was fine had to wait on room so we walked around lobby & grounds looked good, pools looked great. Staff was friendly. The room’s & elevators were very dated, just little things around the property just looked worn out. This looks to be a spring break party hotel. Our toilet was broken every day but 2 out of 7 days. The bathroom on certain day is smelled very much like a sewer. They don’t clean your room every day unless you ask them. The one nice thing is that you can download their app and request things and that seems to move things quicker than calling. There are no cameras in any of the hallways, no emergency phones, and no room service, in the room we were in had five plugs total one plug in the bathroom, one on each side of the bed, one by the mini bar and one along the wall so if you need to charge things or require to be able to plug-in more than one thing next to your bed, you will not be able to. Shower water temperature was like lava. Mini bar was stocked with lots of water, pop and beer and you just had to ask for it to be refilled. The Buffet is great for breakfast. None of the restaurants take reservations. The entertainment in the evening is subpar. Definitely spend the extra money and go to a different hotel. If you do not want kids at the pool, as they do activities with the kids in the adult pool in the morning, we brought our own floats for pool, getting chairs in the morning is an Olympic event plan on being up between 4 AM and 6 AM if you want a certain chair , drinks were OK we brought our own cups They had no problem with that and I’ve stayed at Riu’s in the past, and this one definitely is the lowest on the list, it was probably really nice back 20 years ago.

    We loved this hotel!

We really enjoyed our stay here! I researched so many hotels, and read many reviews of many hotels in Cancun. This hotel drew me in and i couldnt have been happier with our choice! Entertainment: The entertainment staff at this resort is top notch! You could tell they really loved their jobs! Tons of fun activities during the day by the pool, but you also could relax and it didnt feel annoying for the entertainment to be there. Each night there was a show on the stage at the resort. The bars are open , the area is half outside and half inside and it was so fun to watch this! We loved this part of the night! One night there was a party on the beach with a DJ, a bar was set up, and a fire show to end the night. There was also a club (Pacha) at the resort that we stumbled into a lot! Super fun if you enjoy nightlife, but dont want to go to the busy clubs downtown. Food: The restaurants were ok - we arent super picky eaters, but we did find that the buffet had the best options. We didnt realize that the buffet was open during lunch. It honestly is only closed for about 30 min during the day while they set up the next session. The staff at the buffet are so kind as well! Pool Area: the photos online do not do the pool outside area justice! It is MASSIVE! Two pools in the busier area, with activities, a bar, and swim up bar. Many chairs, lots of areas for shade if you didnt want to bake in the sun. Check-in: Was really smooth. We were welcomed with a drink, a wristband. You do have to pay their small tax fee up front in either pasos, or a credit card. Not a huge deal. The room: we had a ocean view and it was really nice! Lots of space! The 2 queen beds are pushed together so we felt like we were sleeping next to each other, but still had space! Very clean, fridge was stocked, no complaints about the room at all! The views are amazing and i suggest contacting the hotel a few weeks before your check in date to request a ocean view room! ***Helpful Tips: - I would recommend to download the Riu App. This app allows you to see what activities there each day, restaurants that are open, order anything you need for your room (towels, waters, beer, etc) -The sun does fade around 2PM at the pool. I had read this and thought it would be a huge deal, but it wasnt! The pools still had some sun, and the beach has sun until about 4PM. - If you enjoy being active there is a train just outside the hotel to go on a walk! We did this every morning with coffee. - The downtown life is about 3 blocks from the hotel if you plan to go to any clubs. We didnt do this as we spent most of our days in the sun and were tired around 10pm lol - If you plan to go to Isla Mujeres - which i suggest! You can walk 3 hotels down to the east to get on a ferry. There are large yellow signs. $35 each person round trip. We rented a golf cart for the day ($60) drove around, got tacos, and just relaxed.

Enjoyable stay at the Riu Cancun

Just finished spending a wonderful five day vacation at the Riu Cancun. I stayed at this resort many years ago and they have done a terrific job of updating recently. The rooms were very clean. The hotel amenities were excellent. The buffet and restaurants were all equally excellent. The many pools that had an infinity edge overlooking the ocean were favorite spots to relax throughout the day. Special thanks to Angy and Maggy at the pool bar for always smiling and taking good care of us! The day and night entertainment always made for a fun time. We'll definitely be back!

Great location, great food, great atmosphere. The hotel is in a prime location with access to private beach and very close to Coco Bongo. The staff are extremely friendly and the service is excellent.

    Would go back tomorrow!

The resort is beautiful! Food was really good and entertainment team on point! The staff was extremely helpful. Different pool options if you wish to have a more relaxing time or be closer to the action. The beach is sugar white powdery sand and water crystal blue. Rooms are ok, but for the amount of time spent in a resort room, they are perfect. Ocean views all around! Love the mini fridge and alcohol dispenser! Gin, Vodka, Rum, Tequila. :-) Daily refill of beer, sprite, Coca-Cola, tonic, soda, and water bottles. Highly recommended!
