Exceeded expectations!
We've been to Mexico several times (Cancun, Riviera Maya) and have always appreciated the beautiful clear aqua water. We wanted to try something new, and decided on Cozumel. Travel is our passion, so we generally stay in high end resorts. As such, we occasionally reach out to a travel agent when determining where to stay, as we heard there were not many luxury resorts on the island. The best option, we were told, was El Presidente. So, we came with measured expectations that Cozumel luxury might not be the same as what we were used to in other areas of Mexico and the Caribbean. Our expectations were VASTLY exceeded! El Presidente was absolutely wonderful, one of the best views we've ever had from their Reef Room, and by far the nicest hotel beach spot in all of Cozumel! Snorkeling was great right off the hotel; there is a sunken boat that provides an array of colorful fish; we saw a stingray and several friendly nurse sharks as well. Food was good at all of the restaurants, and the show stopper was the Cabana rental. There is usually a food/beverage minimum to spend, but on a slow day try to negotiate and see what they will accommodate! We had the cabana reserved from 11am-8pm and what an amazing spot to just spend the day eating, drinking, snorkeling, and relaxing. The water was TOP 3 for most beautiful compared to anywhere we've been in the world! (and we are comparing to Jamaica, Bahamas, Grenada, Cuba, Abu Dhabi, Costa Rica, Hawaii) Hotel staff was incredibly friendly and went over the top for great service. This is one of the things I love about traveling to Mexico vs. the Caribbean. We felt very welcomed. Resort was kept very clean. Our room had turn down service, which was a really appreciated luxury touch. The amenities throughout the resort, but also in the room itself, were very nice. Shampoo, body wash, aloe very, bug spray, etc were provided and all of good quality. Best part of the trip, other than the resort and cabana, was renting mopeds/scooters around the island. The concierge referred us to a local spot in downtown to rent, and we spent the entire day exploring the west, south, and wild east side of the island.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER - AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!
I booked a “beach front” double room online, and showed the hotel my screen shots from my booking which very clearly showed I had booked a “beach front” double room. Even with my screen shots which CLEARLY showed I had booked a “beach front” double room, the hotel front desk staff (*falsely*) claimed I had booked a “classic” (no view) double room and said it would cost me an ADDITIONAL $200+tax per night for the very same “beach front” room that I had booked! This was THE WORST customer service of ALL TIME and I will NEVER stay here again. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!

Great resort - but beware loud construction!
This might be one of my first reviews - so please be kind. My husband and I stayed at Intercontinental Presidente Cozumel for four nights last week and overall really enjoyed the hotel and loved Cozumel. That said, there were a few things I would have liked to know about in advance, so I’m hoping this review helps give other folks that are planning to visit this hotel a heads-up. First, let’s talk about the good: - Beautiful grounds and amazing snorkeling! The resort’s beaches and landscaping are top notch. Also, there is a small wreck right offshore which makes for fantastic and convenient snorkeling. - The room was freshly renovated and the layout and views were fantastic. - The service was great all around. Everyone was helpful, attentive and kind. - Happy hours at Le Cap (2 for 1s) and Caribeno were great. - The breakfast buffet is delicious - with lots of options (omelet/egg station and a quesadilla station) and the views from that restaurant are unbeatable. - The spa is lovely and has amazing dip pools (one hot, one medium temperature and one super cold), a sauna, steam room and a high-pressure shower (which was my favorite). I booked a 50 minute sensations massage (the cheapest) and it was fairly good. I was however very surprised when the male masseuse wrapped up my massage by braiding my hair (a headband french braid lol) - which was unexpected and if I’m honest, unnecessary. - The shampoo, hand wash and soap provided smells amazing! Room for improvement: - Tower rooms and construction: When we checked in the manager told us they had upgraded our room (we booked a ‘King Premium with balcony’). As he was walking to the upgraded room, which was in the Tower wing, he explained that there was construction going on in the building, but assured us that it would not be a bother. We told him that we were on our first vacation without our one-year old and really looking forward to some peace and quiet and again he assured us that the construction noise would not be an issue. The room itself was impressive with a nice seating area, a large bathroom with a soaking tub and a lovely balcony, but on closer inspection it seemed like it hadn’t gone through a thorough post-renovation quality check or cleaning (there were pencil markings on the wood, wires hanging out in the shower and the tile needed a more aggressive scrubbing in the bathroom to get rid of some construction dirt). The only other thing I would have changed about the room itself was the mattress - which was super hard. - Bathroom issues: The bathroom is very impressive looking, but not quite as functional. The rain showerhead wasn’t working properly (some holes were larger than others on the shower head so it sprayed weirdly). There is a gorgeous, large bathtub in these renovated rooms, but the tub faucet is very slow and it would probably take over an hour to fill the whole tub (we left it on for like 10 minutes and it barely got to over an inch of water). - Construction noise: To be fair, the construction did not start before 9 am in the morning and wrapped up around 6 pm every night, so it wasn’t a real bother at night. During the day, it was a totally different story. There was loud hammering and drilling throughout the day - that was super loud in the room and could also be heard clearly on the beach between the two restaurants. So loud on the beach that we moved to the far beach because it was really cramping the whole relaxing beach vibe. While I imagine that the manager assumed that we would be out of the room all day - and we were out enjoying the beach for most of the day - those times that we were in the room it was really hard to relax/enjoy because of the noise (made post-beach naps a no-go sadly). I’m very surprised that more reviews don’t mention it and think that the hotel should pre-warn guests during booking so it's not a surprise on arrival (like it was for us). Also, I do not think that the hotel should have guests staying in these rooms given the scale of renovations in this building - particularly if there are other options (they had other rooms that they could have offered us). We mentioned all this at check-out and got a half-hearted apology and were told the manager would be alerted (was hoping for some financial compensation - since it really put a damper on an otherwise great trip). - Food quality and prices: Aside from the breakfast buffet (which as I note above was wonderful), I was disappointed by almost every meal I had at the resort, except the nachos. Full disclosure, I don’t eat seafood and my husband, who does, enjoyed more of the meals he ordered than I did. That being said, I feel like for the caliber of the resort and cost of food, there was a lot of room for improvement. The first night we ate at Le Cap, I ordered one of their mini pizzas which was just ok and my husband got a tuna bowl, which he also felt was a bit underwhelming. We ate at the italian restaurant the next night - which was again just ok. We ate out the third night (at La Choza in town - which was yummy). Our final night, we ate at the Caribbean restaurant and I ordered the pasta and it was really disappointing. Overall I felt like the food was very comparable to what I’ve had previously at AI resorts (aka bland, uninventive and low-quality ingredients). Appetizers and salads were all around $15-20 and entrees typically $20+. Lastly, the wine selection left a lot to be desired IMO.

Wonderful stay
Went with my sisters and a friend and stayed in the oceanfront rooms. The resort is absolutely beautiful. The oceanfront rooms have decks that open right onto the lawn which is right in front of the beach -- very convenient if you swim a lot. We spent every morning at their wonderful buffet in the thatched roof restaurant right next to the ocean enjoying cappucinos and the incredible amount of items on the buffet. We had the buffet included in our room rate. They have a made to order egg station where you can get many Mexican egg dishes made like huevos rancheros. The waiters and maids were all very nice everywhere in the resort. The snorkeling right in front of the hotel is great. I took advantage of their free scuba trial in the pool (they put the scuba gear on you and you swim across the bottom of the pool to try it out). That gave me the courage to try the Intro to Scuba (cost was USD $106) which was wonderful. My scuba instructor was Jose Luis who could not have been better -- he took me out right off the beach for about 40 minutes. It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking of trying scuba diving. There was only one thing that I would like to see at the resort and that would be to either provide Reef safe sunscreen in the rooms and/or sell it at the gift shop and to provide a little education for people on that - just a simple note in the rooms would be great. The chemicals in standard sunscreen have been proven to be quite detrimental to coral reefs but there are safe alternatives. i know some people won't care but I think there are a lot of people who simply don't know and would care if they did. We had stayed at a resort in Hawaii which provided samples of reef safe sunblock which gave me a very favorable view of the resort. I plan to return and bring my husband and kids so they can see for themselves how wonderful Cozumel and El Presidente.
