Very good bach side hotel with reasonable price
We were late with our reservations and had to "settle" for a suite at Play Azul. It turned up to be very pleasant surprise. Because it was a suite, it had a big bed room with king size bed, a big living room with two couches and big bathroom with plenty of towels. As my parents took the bed room, my girl friend and I slept in the salon on the couches. They weren't the best couches to sleep on, but adequate, even if for me the couch was on the limit length-wise, so not an option for 180cm (6 foot) people. To get out all the complaints at front, the A/C was set to very cold at arrival. We turned it completely off and after two nights the room was still cooler that the outside air. My final complaint is that we couldn't open salon windows. I can't remember if they were unopenable or they just lacked mosquito nets, but any case we couldn't kep them open at nights. The bedroom instead had a mosquito net door, so that we could keep open to get fresh air and listen to the waves. The hotel itself is a little old, worn, but still in good condition. Everything worked and we actually liked it's more homey atmosphere. The hotel is also not that big, maybe 50-60 rooms, so it's also quiet. This does not reflect to the services : It has a good (and not too expensive) restaurant, two pools, a bar, a dive shop and a tiny beach. The dive shop is also reasonably priced. I bought two dive package, which was maybe 5-10 dollars more than in the town, but here the boat gets you from the hotel's peer and there's no hassle with the transport. Check of the gear the day before and in the morning it was just hop on to the boat and off we went. No problems. My girlfriend rented some snorkeling stuff from the dive shop too. There's also a snorkeling tour, which covers few hundred meters along the shoreline around the hotel, but couple of people commented that it was quite waste of money as the location in front of the hotel is the best for snorkeling. The hotel's beach is tiny with little sand (rocks start few meters from the shore) and there are very little waves, so it's really good for snorkeling. There are lots of fish to see (barracudas, stingrays etc.). Overall we had very pleasant two night stay at Playa Azul. Next time this will definitely be on top of our list. Two nights for four people cost us under $90 per night, which is really good from European point of view.

Love this hotel!
Lovely hotel. Room was spacious and clean, although a bit dated. The bed was comfortable. The views from the room were amazing with a private balcony. The staff was friendly, helpful and quick. The food at the hotel is outstanding! The beach is small but quiet and comfortable. Beautiful reef for snorkeling right off the shore as well. Excellent dive shop affiliated with the hotel. Will absolutely stay here again!

The only place to stay
This was our 2nd trip to Cozumel but our first to Playa Azul and it won't be the last. We prefer smaller hotels/resorts and are not big partiers so the quiet was nice. The main reason we chose PA was for the snorkeling and it was fantastic. We walked down the beach to Buccano's and dropped in there and drifted until we felt like getting out. So many fish! We also saw the biggest barracuda I've ever seen right near the buoys. I like that you can walk down the beach in each direction here and also on the street/sidewalk for a little exercise. While this hotel is at the north end and not near the downtown area, you can easily get a cab for only $8. It's nice to be away from the crowds and esp. the cruise ships. Hotel staff can give you excellent recommendations on where to go for authentic food. The staff at this hotel were amazing! Special shout out to Roberto, Pedro, Victor, Luis, Bartolome, Darwin, Francisco, Beatriz, and the woman who worked in the store. The bed was comfortable and the view from our room was great. Housekeeping was good and the women were so friendly. The only things I would recommend are to put mini fridges in the room. Portions at the restaurant are generous and we sometimes overate b/c we knew we couldn't keep the food in the room. Playing local music through the restaurant and beach speakers would be really nice too. Sometimes there was local music played at the beach bar, but the elevator music being piped from the building played over it and you couldn't hear it very well. Another bonus is that there are a couple of really good restaurants within walking distance of PA. I wasn't expecting this since I knew it was at the northern tip of the island. We will be staying here again without a doubt and can't wait for our next trip!

We love this hotel
We had another great visit at Playa Azul Hotel, its my favorite place to stay on the island because I love their beach so much, perfect place to swim and snorkel in beautiful water. We snorkeled almost all the way up to el cozumelino as the tide was super chill this stay. November really spoils us as the temperature is so nice. They did have construction while we were there but we really didn't notice it too much. We had breakfast in the beach club next door which was fine, all the goodies you normally get- we liked the option for made to order omelettes. This as you know is an older hotel but it is being updated but so you know the AC works fine (just a bit slow but by the time you are ready for bed- no complaints) Great service from everyone. We love this place and can't wait to come back for more.

Relaxing, beautiful, awesome snorkeling
Stayed here for a week on our late Christmas vacation. Absolutely amazing view from our hotel room 202. Loved the ambience of this place and everyone was very friendly. Our room was perfect for us, family of 4, and the staff did a great job cleaning it everyday. Beds were comfortable with plenty of pillows. Safe box worked well and we never had any issues. They gave us 4 blue towels to use for the pool and beach which we needed to keep track of or we would have to pay extra to replace them. Restaurant outside was so nice on the beach and we enjoyed breakfast and dinner there many times. Loved seeing the turtles and lizards outside the main entrance. We snorkled one afternoon by renting the gear onsite and it was amazing how many different species of fish we saw, including sting rays! Daughter said this hotel had "good vibes" and we all were sad to leave.
