Overall nice, but...
ARRIVAL Used USATransfer for transportation roundtrip. It was perfect! We traveled as a group: grandparents, parents, and a baby. We requested connected rooms. At arrival, rooms were assigned on different floors. We again asked for connected rooms as they were available. We had to wait another 40 min for the rooms to be ready. On one hand, we are pleased that we got connected rooms, but why it was not done ahead of time per our request? GENERAL COMMENTS We loved that resort had no room cards, you can open the door lock with your bracelet. Towels on the beach and near pools are unlimited and no need to return. The hotel has many pools and a heated pool if you are a pool lover. There is a very nice waterpark for kids, but there is not enough shade there. We stayed at the Esmeralda(family side). Guests can use all services at La Perla (adults only) if you can leave your kids on the Esmeralda side ROOMS and GROUNDS Rooms and grounds are perfect. Absolutely loved it (even though at arrival we had a tray of fruits in the room all covered with mold!!!). Cleaning people probably forgot about it....Rooms are clean, not small, and nicely decorated. Grounds reminded me of the resort we were at many years ago in Malaga (no wonder, the resort is owned by the Spanish chain). FOOD The food is good, and fresh. Not enough variety in my opinion in the buffet and "lunch box restaurant has the same menu every day for breakfast and lunch. But we did not like the service in the buffet and in the "lunch box" restaurant, very slow and sometimes non-existent. What was really annoying is that every time you get into the buffet they ask your room number. why? - this is a buffet!!! They also ask if have allergies... but don't do anything with that info. We liked the night restaurants "Fuego" "Bana Family", "Bana" and "Capella" - good food and good service, especially Cappella, however "blue Agave" was really bad We had to go to the buffet to feed the kids as it took more than an hour to get food. The food was not anything special, but the setting was nice. ACTIVITIES I cannot comment on daytime activities as I did not see any. The resort had a schedule and all activities were in the club, so you had to go to a specific place to do yoga, dance etc, which I never did. Usually, these classes are on the beach where the people are. Nighttime shows are nice: silent parties, some shows not on the stage but right on the lobby floor. One night resort invites star gazing service BEACH There are a lot of coatis near the beach and pool. You can't leave things unattended if you have ANY food even a sealed bag of chips in your bag. They are so nasty and used to people that they will open the bag get the package and will run everywhere you sit after. We witnessed how the resort had a service and caught a huge bunch of them in 2 big cages (probably at least 50). It was quiet for a few days but in 5 days I had at least 30 surrounding me near the beach. There is a narrow line of natural forest preserve between the beach and the hotel. We loved it! It is very pretty to cross the bridge and be surrounded by real nature. It is also a source of natural shade on the beach. It is probably also the reason why there are so many coaties there -:). There is plenty of shade on the beach. However, the resort does not allow opening an umbrella when it is windy, so you get no sun protection. Not sure why the resort installed the umbrellas that they are afraid of using. For us, beach lovers, it was a problem. Resort cleans the beach daily and it is very clean. In general, the beach is nice but right on the Esmeralda beach you can't swim: too much seaweed. We had to go either to the left or to the right where the water was much nicer, cleaner, warmer, and calmer. There is a cenote, which had warm shallow water without waves. It was great, but it is about 300m away...On the beach way too many waves for small children. For adults, it was ok to get in, but not to swim There is a nice smoothie bar right on the beach. In general, the beach is nice but right on the Esmeralda beach you can't swim: too much seaweed. Vendors on the beach are not annoying as at some other resorts. SUMMARY: it is a nice resort, but overpriced for what it is. (We have been to many resorts mostly in Dominican republic but some MX as well) We felt that food and service was lacking for the price paid. If you are a beach lover you should find a different resort as the beach is not great for swimming and inability to use umbrellas on a windy day

Paradise with a question mark!!!!
First let me say this resort is really laid out very nice. However we arrived on a Tuesday staying a week. The transfer to the hotel since this was a Delta Vacations package was very disorganized which is not the hotel’s fault. That is on Delta. Once we arrived to the resort after a 45 minute ride from the airport which included waiting around for an hour for transportation to the hotel,we were spent. The check in was very quick and off to the room. As we entered the room inspecting it, we noticed the couch was stained. We immediately called down to the front desk. It took two hours and a discussion with the front desk personnel face to face to get this cordially resolved for another room. Keep in mind this is a Junior Suite Ocean view which was obstructed by very tall trees. Yes you might want to opt for poolside view. The specialty restaurants are all good. Make sure you have which days and restaurant you what to dine in before you arrive. The Italian restaurant is booked early so know your palate and days. The Steakhouse is not covered as part of your stay. Sal’s Steakhouse is the absolute truth. I had a ribeye steak and my lady had lobster. It melted in your mouth. Great food. The bill had a service charge which I view as additional cost, tip or taxes. The fuzzy explanation from the manager did not make sense and the box still has a tip request. We left a tip but this service charge needs to come off the bill. If I am tipping you for service rendered why is there a service charge? The Adult side buffet has perhaps the worst dinner choices I have seen at a resort. Limited choices and poor quality of food that is never hot even though it is on a warmer. The breakfast is better but the food is cold. The warmers apparently do not work. The saving grace is a very attentive staff and my hat goods off to them. Very nice. The bars could be a hit or miss. Making whisky sour and lemon drops drinks is not rocket science. Again, the staff is very attentive and nice. There is some work to be done here at Paradius in Playa de Carmen especially with the buffet Adult side food which is cold. Making pancakes and waffles is not rocket science or reinventing the wheel. It cost a lot of bucks to stay at this resort and the quality of food should reflect it. Had a good time but it could have been better!!! Lenny By the way the Meliá award points of 2000 is only worth 8 usd . Don’t spend it all in one place.. LoL

Capella Restaurant
Excelente services, and food. I had the linguine Camperi, and it was very good. Cannoli with pistachio for desert is a Thumbs up for Cittalli, hostess of the front desk. Waiters were another tumba up!!

Family trip in the sun
We had a multi-generational travel party and this resort ticked all of our boxes! Salvador B, at the reserve pool, was awesome and helpful throughout the duration of our visit, great guy. The housekeeping was timely and attentive. Make sure you book your dinner reservations as soon as you arrive as we found things unavailable if left too late. The grounds were immaculate and maintained with care. Overall amazing property and luxurious vibes.

Absolutely paradise!!!!
This place is absolutely paradise. You will most certainly have trouble convincing me to stay anywhere else on vacation. In addition to all the amazing amenities and things to do, the dining experiences are also second to none! I would like to specifically point out Carlos Cardoz and Nayeli Chuc for taking such amazing care of my family during the dinner we enjoyed. To be able to show up for dinner and be treated like part of the family goes a long way for us and the two of them (plus many others) went out of their way to make that happen. Now, there aren't enough positive comments to use when talking about about our personal concierge Tiara Garcia. SHE IS SOOOO AMAZING. It's not an easy task to take care of the needs of 3 kids in addition mine and my wife's requests...but she handled all of them flawlessly and always with a smile. She kept us up to date on everything going on at the resort and made sure our experience here was nothing short of the best. We are just in awe of how awesome she is 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Cheers to Tiara, Carlos, Nayeli and the rest of the Paradisus staff. 100% recommend Paradisus Playa Del Carmen. We will 100% be back.
