May 31, 2023Beautiful grounds and nice beach. Nice time
I was skeptical about staying here at first. Some of the reviews made me a bit wary. I will say that what I read was true in some instances, but let me say this. I had an enjoyable experience. Ocean Maya has beautiful grounds, and while many may have said the beach was crappy or I overheard a European call it "rubbish", I disagree. I thought the beach was beautiful. It did have a lot of sargassum, which resulted in a terrible smell. However, the hotel cannot be held responsible for that, and there were workers cleaning it every day. I spent my entire trip on the beach, and loved every bit of it. Supposedly there are two pools. A "quiet" pool and an active pool. They're side by side. They both were noisy to me, as if you sat on either side, you couldn't escape the loud dj music. I found the beach was the best bet if you wanted quiet, and that's a stretch because you heard it there, too. Just not as much. I do feel that the staff could be a bit more attentive. We've had to ask for our refrigerator to be stocked twice. Also, you rarely get served on the beach. If you sit by the pool, you're served. All good, as the bar isn't far from the beach. Still, when you're privileged, you should be waited on whether you're on the beach or by the pool. Food was good. We tried the Italian and the French restaurants. Both good. The buffet is good, as well. We enjoyed the evening entertainment, as well. It's something to do, at night, as there isn't much else, if you like a lot of night life. A few hiccups here and there, but nothing to ruin my trip. I found the people there to be friendly, as well as the guests. Everyone seemed happy, and so was I. Overall, a good experience, and I am glad I decided to keep my stay here. It was a pleasant experience.

I was excited to visit Mexico and even more so this hotel which looked beautiful. When we arrived we were thrilled with the beautifully spacious lobby area which spreads out in all directions and has shops, a bar, seating areas and leads out into the main entertainment area. The staff who checked is in were helpful and we were taken by gold buggy to our room. So far so good! The room itself was lovely and I genuinely had no complaints. A very comfortable bed, bathroom with very spacious shower, TV, coffee machine and a balcony, the resort is a decent size and we seemed to be halfway between the main reception area and the pool. The beach area is nice but they do have a lot of seaweed there (no fault of the hotel this is the area), however there is an area of the beach cleared of seaweed so you can swim in the sea. There are two pools, a quiet pool and a lively pool which also had a pool bar. We split our time between the pools but you do need to get down at a reasonable time to get a bed. However, the lively pool in its first week was overrun with Americans and Canadians you had zero chance of getting to the pool bar without pushing through. Thankfully you could access the pool bar from the other side and there was a second bar by the quiet pool. Overall the repost and pool is kept very clean so that was a major plus. You can walk along the beach maybe half a mile either way before one thing or another stops you from progressing. During the day there are a few ‘activities’ mostly involving drinking games so not my cup of tea but they seemed popular enough. The food was the major issue for me here and it’s one that makes up for the poor rating. We ate at every restaurant here and they were all very poor, the breakfasts are catered more for things such as pancakes etc and the hot breakfast would run out fast and you would spend around 10 minutes waiting for it to be replenished. This wasn’t a one off it was a regular occurrence. They also consistently ran out of English breakfast tea so unless you were a coffee drinker you were out of luck! The attitude of some of the staff in the main buffet restaurant was awful (although only a handful) and one evening they wouldn’t seat my husband as he was on his own while I went to a restaurant with my parents. Each restaurant we tried was not great. The Italian we waited an hour for our dishes and all 4 of them were cold. The Mexican the staff were so rude and the food stone cold so we walked out. The sports bar was probably the most passable for food but I wasn’t keen on eating burgers and chicken wings every night. Our alternative was to go into town for dinner but with the hotel taxis being $60 return it works out an expensive night before you have eaten. I think the hotel should have more variety of food, it should be served hot and the buffet should be replenished more frequently. The entertainment was okay, the team obviously work their socks off to do their best but they only work within the team they have and sadly it was a bit lacklustre. Having been to 5 star hotels in different parts of the world this is not my version of a 5 star. It’s more like a 3/4 star at best. Based on the hotel and prices of visiting anywhere or doing tours I won’t rush back to Mexico. The prices are insane and the hotel was nowhere near good enough.

It’s just ok
I’ve stayed at a lot of all-inclusive resorts and while this resort had a lot of pros it also had a lot of cons. I wouldn’t go back here again and quite honestly if you’re looking for a higher end resort with top-class amenities this isn’t for you. Pros -the staff are amazing. Everyone is nice and accommodating -the food is excellent. It’s definitely up there with other resorts. I didn’t have a bad meal -the grounds are well kept and very beautiful Cons -The rooms need a lot of updating. Now usb ports, on one side of the bed there weren’t any plugs. No full length mirrors. No robes. Our bathroom has a lot of mold and mildew in it. -Not enough chairs around the pool -The pools could use some updating as well. Lots of tiles were missing or damaged -The noise. We stayed in villa 5 and it was so noisy. We could hear the music from the lobby and it was very, very loud. It made it difficult to sleep at night. -Making reservations was a pain and half the time the app didn’t work.

"Welcome Home!" is the greeting we received walking into this amazing resort, and they are true to their words. This was our 4th visit to Ocean Maya Royale and hopefully will not be our last. Check in was a breeze with help from Carolina and our butler Laidy. Our room was beautiful, clean and stocked daily with everything we could need during our stay. The lobby bartenders, Ollie, Octavian, Jorge and Christobal at the sports bar are so experienced and have unbelievable knowledge of the best drinks. Miguel and Ebrt at the pool bar work so hard and fast it's sometimes a blur. Many thanks to the wait staff that took care of our every need without having to ask, from JoJo, Anna and Rosa at the Plaza to Ilsa, Daniella, Manuel and Carolina in the Privilege area. The OMR restaurants are beyond compared. They prepare and serve some of the best international foods in the Yucatan that do not disappoint the senses. The entertainment staff are funny, active and engaging with the guest, thank you to Esteban and Brown Sugar for being so very kind. Every nightly show was incredible and spellbinding. These ladies and gentlemen are so very talented and deserve much applause. I hope we spelled everyone's name correctly and apologize if we forgot anyone; again, many thanks for your hospitality. If you are looking for an incredible Caribbean experience Ocean Maya Royale will not disappoint and will definitely make you feel at home! Larry & Teresa (from Tennessee)

Great experience!
Great service and staff! Very clean environment. Would definitely recommend for friends and families alike. Entertainment staff was amazing, hosting lots of fun activities. Esteban was especially kind and friendly!!
