    Wonderful Hotel !

Spent a week here and had a wonderful stay. Staff was very attentive, and room was extremely clean and quite. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting San Salvador. Hotel also arranged transport to/from airport which was prompt and efficient. Thank you Intercontinental !

Very Nice But Little Rough Around the Edges

Make no mistake, this is an excellent property and probably the best in the city, but it has some issues. The building is aging but very well maintained, with nice public spaces and comfortable rooms, though the bathroom definitely getting a little long of tooth with some cracks and discoloration in the marble and some cracking caulk. Windows don't have a clear view and need a good cleaning. The bed was excellent, as were the towels. The robe and slippers were... missing until I requested them- really shouldn't have to ask for things like that in a five star hotel. Only one small bottle of water in the room- should be two or more in a place where drinking tap water is not recommended. The AC worked well but was loud and it must have been made in the analog days before they invented numbers on thermostats because all you have is a plastic lever to move up and down and imagine what temperature it might be. The location is safe and convenient with the mall and its restaurants right across the street, though other than the mall there is not much of interest in walking distance. Service was very friendly and helpful but not too polished. Not enough info provided on checkin and some things were unclear/annoying- like the fact that the "club access" room actually means that you have access to the locked and empty lounge and can look inside and imagine what it might be like if they ever open it again. To their credit, they did provide drinks and appetizers at the restaurant instead. Restaurant food and service was generally good; breakfast buffet was not huge but quality was pretty good and it featured a nice section of local Salvadorean dishes (I hate when western hotel chains serve only generic non-local food). Overall I have to say I was very comfortable and happy with my choice and think they are doing an acceptable job providing a near-luxury experience in a developing country.

An oasis in the middle of a otherwise gritty city

My wife and I spent 2 nights at the intercontinental in San Salvador. We are currently travelling through Central America over 5 months and decided to stay somewhere a little bit more expensive in San Salvador due to safety concerns. The intercontinental was perfect for this. There was good security on site. The wifi worked well. The bed was large and comfortable. The room was clean and well equipped with air conditioning, TV, etc. Staff were friendly. On site dining options were appreciated. There was a metro central hall directly across from our room, as well as a large highway but the double glazed windows meant we didnt hear any noise at all. The gym facility was good, although they would benefit from getting a leg press and lateral pull down machine. We were able to get a local tour company to pick us up from this hotel and take us around the city with door to door service. Overall we had a wonderful stay and were sad to leave.

    Worst Shower heads ever!

I have been staying at this hotel for 25 years now. My first time visiting this hotel was in July 1997. To this day it is an excellent hotel! However, recently the showerheads have been changed from Speakman any stream showerheads that gave you the most wonderful shower you can imagine to water saving rain flow Showerheads that conserve so much water that after a seven minute shower my legs were still dry! After I exited the shower my body itched all over because so little water had been deposited onto it during the shower. This type of shower experience I would completely expect from a Holiday Inn or Holiday Inn express. This is not the type of experience I expect and demand from an intercontinental property!

    Anniversary In San Salvador...

InterContinental San Salvador - Metrocentro Mall My husband and I stayed here November 2021 for our anniversary. The hotel is in a perfect location with direct access to the Metrocentro Mall and many other things to do in this amazing city. The staff and front desk were extremely courteous and helpful. The hotel was extremely clean and very equipped with social distancing signage and hand sanitizer stations throughout the hotel. Room: My husband and I are InterContinental Ambassadors, so we received a guaranteed upgrade. The room itself had a wonderful view of the city and the Metrocentro Mall. It still remained super quiet in spite of the close proximity to the shopping centers. The room was clean, and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. The bathroom was very modern, and the shower/tub had great water pressure. My only complaint was that the water temperature often varied from lukewarm to hot depending on the time of day. Onsite Dinning: The onsite restaurants were okay for last minute dinning, but nothing was memorable considering the price. During our stay, we dined at the Faisca do Brasil and Picasso. The other restaurant Nau lounge was closed during our stay. Again, if you are looking for better fine-dining options, try Brutto El Salvador, La Gastroteca, or La Melangerie. In addition, do not be afraid to dine at some of the delicious local restaurants in the city center. Pool/Gym/Spa: The pool and gym were both small but workable and the spa services were magnificent and really great for the value. My masseuse was magnificent, and the spa treatments were PERFECT! Just make sure you book your treatments upon arrival because spa slots fill up quickly. Overall, the hotel made our stay in San Salvador extremely comfortable. I do believe that while some improvements to the dining options can be made, the hotel overall is quite solid and the hotel’s location cannot be beat. My husband and I would definitely stay here again.
