Very strange lack of basic facilities - think carefully before booking.
My wife and I have travelled all around the world and have stayed in many different hotels. I cannot recall ever staying in one before that had no proper bar, no lounge and no breakfast on site. There is a nice, clean pool area with a bar and a snack service but that’s only fine if you want to be outside in the Florida heat and humidity. For some breakfast you must leave the hotel and walk down the street and find a Starbucks or cafe. We stayed a few days and for the whole time the main elevator was broken. There was another elevator accessed through the rear parking lot and delivery area, walk past pallets of goods, delivery vans and trash disposal to reach it - not 5 stars at all! Nobody told us why the elevator was broken, asking a staff member I got a shrug of the shoulders. Overall we quite liked our bedroom although the air con unit was huge, boxed in and fairly noisy. Getting any hot water in the bathroom was a nightmare. Let the water run for 5 minutes and it was just getting tepid. I never did get water hot enough for a proper shave. The balcony with a rocking chair was good and we enjoyed people watching from it. The valet parking was slick and friendly. Finally I would say consider carefully if the lack of facilities justifies around $1,000 a night!
Tourist hotel, five star prices
Great location on Fifth Avenue. Rooms are comfortable but feel a bit sterile. Definitely a 4* fit out but with 5* prices, no turndown service, no separate lounge and bar area. We asked to move room owing to the noise of the M&E plant room which can be heard across the pool area and apparently doesn't shut down at night. Front desk very kindly upgraded us to a larger, road facing room, which was much appreciated, otherwise the plant noise would have been a major negative. Shower pressure in the bathroom is so so and the automatic light is weird - as others have commented. The pool area is very relaxing, although, small point, it's self service setting yourself up with towels etc. There is free self parking across the road to the rear. The valet team were super helpful driving us to the beach and lending us chairs and an umbrella. From an over heard conversation, it seems that there have been quite a few staff comings and goings and it might not be the happiest ship at present? Ocean Prime restaurant was heaving with customers but we didn't have time to try it. Granted we stayed in the run up to Christmas but pricing was very expensive relative to the experience, for which it loses a notch on the overall rating. Could sorely do with some competition and an upgrade to the offer.
Not worth the money
The most notable issues we had related to service. The room was clean and comfortable though the bathroom had no toiletries except soap and shampoo. Other problems in the bathroom included a lack of hooks for wet towels and a shower head that was loosely dangling from the wall (because of poor design the shower door hit it and the pipe was loose and hanging). We stabilized it by rolling up a wash cloth and putting that between the pipe and the wall so we could function. We asked for extra coffee pods three times - on the third try they arrived but they sent the wrong kind so we gave up and bought our own. We asked for extra pillows and arrived back at our room to find two pillows thrown haphazardly on the sofa. Front desk couldn’t produce a copy of our bill when we checked out and forgot to email it. These sound like minor issues until you hear that we paid about $700 per night for the room. The price doesn’t match the quality. On the upside, the pool area was very nice and the bartender there was friendly.
Plain 3.5 star hotel.
This is a 3.5 star hotel, nothing more. The location is good, but the hotel itself is virtually indistinguishable from a Holiday Inn or something like that. Plain decor. No mini bar. Lights on the bathroom are on all night! (As others have mentioned.) No bellman when I checked in, just a tired and bored man behind the desk. Very uninteresting design. Overall, suuuuper ordinary, 3 or 3.5 star hotel that cost me far more than that. Definitely a waste of money.
Well located, but with service closer to a Holiday Inn
The Inn of Fifth is perfectly located in a vibrant part of Naples. While, it does not have a beach view, and the beach is a few blocks away, you can walk to a large number of shops, restaurants, and bars. The room we stayed in was a corner room on the 2nd floor. While the room itself was clean, there were a few odd things about it, such as the closet being in the bathroom. Also, the bathroom had a large soaking tub, but there wasn't anywhere to set anything down, but there was a random bottle of hair conditioner perched precariously near the faucet. We also had a couple of maintenance issues as well--the hot water did not work the first day and the toilet was running and eventually did not flush. At the price we were paying, these things should be checked before guests check in. They did fix both very quickly, however. The hotel also did not feel like it had a heart or hub. The lobby did have some seating, but no one gathered there and the staff did not really address people as they came and went. It did not feel warm or welcoming. We also really appreciate turndown service when we are staying at an expensive, luxury hotel. We asked if the hotel offered this and the front desk person said "I think so." We said "if not, could someone drop off some towels for us?" When we returned from dinner, there were towels stacked inside the basin of the sink, but the dirty towels were left on the floor. We asked about this the next day and were told that the cleaning staff were "not trained in turndown service." I mentioned that we did not need to have chocolates put on our pillows or music playing (although how much training would this require?), but were just looking for dirty towels and trash to be removed (same training as day cleaning, but less extensive). The man at the desk assured us he would exchange our towels himself. However, he did not and we returned from dinner to our same wet towels on the floor. The pool area is the highlight of the hotel. It is gorgeous, well-kept, and has friendly and attentive service. The food and drinks were delicious. They have clean and convenient bathrooms. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for the location, but not for the service or the overall feel of the hotel, especially at the price.
