Good, but needs improvements
IBEROSTAR DOMINICANA Visited Aug 11, 2023 DINING Never tried alternate restaurants. Stuck to buffets. BUFFETS- Lots of variety but repetitive. Air Conditioned food area Some foods are labeled, but hotel needs to step it up to 100% food labels, especially with allergies nowadays… Beware…Son threw up after first breakfast there. Concluded that it had to be from milk for cereal that sits in a large spouted glass container ADVICE: Bought milk at souvenir shop for cereals…kept in room fridge. Never touched the milk there again. Thankfully, never got sick again either. Main Buffet dining areas: Higuey & Hispaniola: a sweaty steam bath. Ceiling fans are just not enough to cool this place down. ADVICE: Have lunches at beach buffet dining area instead, La Marimba. Nice, consistent ocean breeze. No sweating here. Most eat at Higuey, but these are twin dining areas right beside each other, so skip the crowds and turn right instead of left and eat at Hispaniola. Good waiter service. Friendly. Staff must be suffocating in long sleeved vested outfits. Management cruelty in my opinion. MAIN POOLs: Pool is kept quite clean compared to other hotels I’ve been to. Pool bar has lineups quite often. Pool water was too hot. I’d estimate around 33c+ . Not sure if it was heated or not. Good towel service. ADVICE: Reserve your loungers by 8am and you’re all set. Signage around pool clearly says not to do so, but that’s completely ignored. Same applies for beach. Maria, the pool waitress is consistently awesome. Have her bring you drinks when you see a pool bar lineups. PREMIUM (basic) ROOMS Clean Small bathrooms Low water pressure No shower doors Soap and shampoo dispensers only No bathroom ventilation Comfortable beds Highest floor has vaulted fanned ceiling Good AC Poor TV resolution. SD not HD Lots of channels Curtains don’t block out enough light. Woke me up earlier than I wanted. More tired because of it. Good, free, room safe Room coffee not very tasty compared to hotel restaurants. Never any spoons or stir sticks or coffee whitener. Makes no sense. Plastic-free hotel. Empty water carafes for filling at water stations. Hotel water is surprisingly good. No taste, which is what you want. Mini fridge stocked with 2 beer cans and 2 coke bottles. Room doors are sealed at bottom which prevents critters from crawling in and keeps cold air in. Sealed only 90%…slight gap. Wrong clock time on phones. Unable to change. Nice, good sized balcony with table and chairs. Great garden view. Quiet. ENTERTAINMENT Boring and stale formula Great saxophone player Great female singer OVERALL IMPRESSIONS Gardens on this property are pristine and are well-maintained. Very clean hotel. Beach loungers are packed in like sardines. Anxiety just looking at them. Should be spaced out more, and less of them perhaps would be wiser. Ping pong tables are old and garbage. Useless to play on. Most staff was very friendly. Good responsive service overall in all areas. No mosquitoes. Not sure why. Got some itchiness mostly on ankles. Perhaps from sand fleas I did not see. Maybe bug spray on ankles when on the beach would be a good idea. WOULD I RETURN? Probably not. Just to try somewhere new. Four star? Yes. But a few mentioned improvements could elevate it. SHOUT OUTS to: Renato - waiter (buffet) Luz (room attendant) Soila - buffet (cafe! cafe!) Maria - pool waitress (hola mi amor! ….drinky! drinky!) Adrianna (front desk) Happy travels 👋

Overall it was very nice and I would go back
Just returned from a 5 day stay at Iberostar Dominicana with my husband and 3 kids- 14, 13, 9. Overall, it was a great trip but there are definitely things that NEED improvement in order to say this is a 5 star resort. Food- the buffets were good. We enjoyed them. A lot of repetition but that’s typical with all inclusive resorts. We had 2 dinners at the specialty restaurants- 1 at the smokehouse and the other at the French restaurant. Both were inedible and disgusting. The chicken they gave us at the smokehouse was completely raw. We told them but they didn’t really care and never brought out cooked chicken. The French restaurant was even worse- a plate of fat. Couldn’t eat it. Needless to say, we ended up at the buffet those 2 nights. We couldn’t even get reservations on our own, but there was a very nice concierge staff named Batista that got us the reservations. Beach- seaweed was really annoying and All over the place but that’s not the resorts fault. Pool- the pools were both heated and one was like a hot tub. I’m all for heated pools- I hate being shocked with ice cold water but it was so hot outside that it wasn’t particularly refreshing. The rooms- we had 2 connecting rooms because we were a family of 5- the air conditioning did not work in one of the rooms. Everything was moist and it was impossible to sleep in the room. We called and they said they would come fix it but it never worked so it probably needs to be replaced completely. We ended up sleeping in the kids beds with them. Word of advice- do NOT take the tour to learn about the iberostar club they want you to join unless you are really considering joining. They say it’s 90 minutes- it was well over 3 hours. It became torture and the people were nice that we didn’t want to be rude and get up and leave. They switch you from person to person and although at the end we were considering joining the thought of staying another minute to sign up was a deterrent. I suggest to iberostar to make the presentation no more than 30 minutes. It was way too long and made us say forget it because we couldn’t take another minute of it. Wasted a large portion of our day. Excursion- we did the buggie adventure tour and loved it- so fun! We also did banana boats and enjoyed it. Shows at night- they were ok, but a lot of effort was put into them for sure. No one seemed to know anything- was given conflicting information from everyone at the front desk with any questions we had- no maps of the resort, you need to get the app. No water bottles which is good for the oceans but annoying to have to fill it up at a water station that every day was filled with hair and was dirty. Ice wasn’t easy to find. There were some nice touches to the resort that I enjoyed- infused water, they had someone playing the saxophone near the beach and pool restaurant during lunch time which was really nice, someone is always around to take you where you need to go on a golf cart if you need, the spa was wonderful! One of the best massages I’ve had. The entertainment was staff great. Some of the bartenders were great- others had an attitude but it was so hot that I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they were hot and grouchy. I would go back- I know what to expect and what not to expect. If the resort made a few improvements then it would be great.

Happy experience
Everything was good, traveling was horrible lots of delays,we had a water leak in our room from upstairs room, we called several times it was hard to communicate with them,we spoke English, they showed up after several hours, the person who came doesn’t speak English after all they moved me to another room. One big issue was they seem to don’t understand English . It is our second time at this place , I will think twice about going there next time

Iberostar
Currently staying at Iberostar punta cana and I must say resort is beautiful! Hot coffee was great and entertaining. Although this resort did not really have a party atmosphere he made sure we had a great time.

Good stay in Punta Cana @ Iberostar Dominicana - but with complications.
An "OK" stay in Punta Cana family of 5 - Family Suite. To give some context to our 3 star rating, our family has travelled south numerous times at various resorts (Iberostar, Bahia Principe and Beaches). Although we had "very good" experience overall, a few issues bumped it down. 1) We booked Dominicana side, but we stayed on the "Punta Cana" side of the resort - and it was not clear if this was an upgrade or a downgrade. Not a biggie.... but read point 3 below. 2) The room lock constantly failed - and we could not get into our room several times during our stay. The first time it happened, I walked to the front desk, asked for help, and they redid our key cards. While it worked, I felt something was still wrong. 2nd time it happened, I again got new key cards but it did not work. I went back asking for help and was told maintenance would be sent. I waited over an hour before heading back a 3rd time to the front desk insisting on help and assistance. A supervisor came with me, and discovered their key card did not work either. He called maintenance, who ended up replacing the battery on the door - two hours later. 3rd time it happened (yes, after the batteries were replaced) I finally figured out what was happening: the batteries inside the lock pop-out of place when the door is shut. A swift hit to the lock pushed the batteries back in and allowed us to get in. This kept on happening a few times each day. 3) On our last day when I went to check out at the front desk, I was told I had to go to the lobby at the Punta Cana instead. The whole walk there and back made me the last person to board our bus transfer waiting at the Dominicana lobby (holding up several other ppl - I felt bad). What was more frustrating...the bus transfer then drove from the "Dominicana" lobby to the "Punta Cana" lobby to pick up several other ppl waiting there. Very frustrating. The good: A) The service. B) The food. Interesting item - this was the first time I saw no bottled water in the rooms. Instead, several refillable glass jars and a "VERO" filtered water dispenser located by the elevators. I think this is a good idea for the environment and we had no issues with the water. See photo below.
