    relaxation and rest

This was my 4th visit to the resort and my husband’s 3rd. It was still fantastic. It’s a very special place, we’ve never been to another resort quite like it. The grounds and animals and jungle are just amazing. The rooms are not fancy, but they are spacious and have everything we need. We had 4201 this trip and the 1 story bungalow was awesome! It’s usually blissfully quiet at night. We ate at the Asian twice and the Mexican once. They were good, but neither has a chocolate dessert option, so those 3 nights we went to the buffet after dinner, just to have dessert. The buffet was always good, and so much variety. Argely is our favorite waitress. She’s in the buffet at night. She actually remembered my name from last year and ran over to hug me when she saw us the first night. That’s just special, wonderful, and really made a great impression. All the staff is friendly, and so helpful. I especially like the staff at Las Marias. Lunch buffet was better than last year. The salad bar was greatly improved and they always had good fresh fish. We didn’t make it to any shows this time, which is a bummer. They don’t start til 9, and that’s too late for us old folks. This is the most relaxing place. It’s not fancy. You don’t have to dress up. Even when there’s kids, they don’t bother you. The entertainment staff, especially Daniella, are just exceptional. We like watching the silly pool games, and they’re always doing something good. Bingo was fun. The only issue we had all week was obnoxious guests. It’s a RESORT. Leave your party speakers at home. Nobody wants to hear your music. I didn’t fly to Mexico to get blasted with country music all day at the pool by rude strangers. You aren’t the hotel DJ. We will be back, but probably not in January or February again. The pool and ocean were still very chilly.

    My Time holiday

My Wife and I loved everything about this resort, it was a bit of a slower pace than most others and this allowed me to concentrate on my own health. We had 2 couples spa days that were fantastic and I went to the gym every morning. The fitness co-ordinator (Manolo) was extremely knowledgeable and his simple stretches and exercises have helped my shoulder immensely. I look forward to talking with him again next Feb.

    Nice stay at Iberostar hotel

Getting out of the airport terminal in Cozumel is always a fiasco. It's a racket that taxis cannot pick up at the airport. You must take either a shuttle bus, or a private car. You run a gauntlet of vendors selling everything from time shares, to snorkel trips. Once we made our way outside, we had trouble finding our vendor, Taxi Cozumel. Asking around, we eventually found the right taxi. My advice, if your hotel does not offer transportation, arrange for it in advance. The trip to the hotel was uneventful. I wanted to confirm our return trip taxi, but found no convenient way to do so. I tried messaging the taxi operator, but got no response. Finally, I checked with the hotel concierge, and they confirmed our return taxi was scheduled. Not very reassuring, but we did get our scheduled ride. Helpful staff on check in. Kind of s bare room, but that's because of the beach and the sand that gets tracked in. No luggage racks, extremely noisy dehumidifier. Slept well, and late. Mattress soft, bit then hard base underneath. If you need total darkness, out of luck. No blackout curtains and light leaks in all around the windows and doors. Along with the usual buffet, there are three specialty restaurants, barbecue, Mexican, and oriental. Our first night dinner was in the Smokehouse barbecue. Food served Brazilian style, where meats and sides delivered family style. Sausage: B-, decent not spicy no snap on bite. Chicken: A+. Moist and tasty. Pulled pork: B+. Tasty but fatty. Brisket: A. Moist and tasty with a good bark. Sides: Coleslaw ok, beans spicy but good, creamed corn cheese wasn't fully melted. Las 2 Marias Mexican: 3 course menu. Appetizer, main, dessert. Ceviche tasty. Pork wonderful, dessert blah. All the food comes from the same kitchen, the only difference, is presentation and delivery. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of options. Two omelet stations. I had frittata, bland, bit a visit to the salsa bar fixed that. Food generally good, although bland probably to accommodate guests needing it. Had to ask for salt and pepper. Lots of lounge chairs around the single pool, and on the beach. Not enough shade for those of us trying not to get burned. We spent our days on beach. Why do Mexican resorts insist on playing loud music around the pool? At 11am, a loud game took place, but they finished by noon, then quiet the rest of the day. It was quite pleasant. Oops. At 5:15 pm, no hot water. Fixed later. Being on Cozumel, the hotel caters to divers. A dive shop is on property. Snorkeling options limited, as water's edge is rocky and obscured by black silt. A pier next to dive shop has steps into snorkel area. Snorkel gear free to guests, but no fins. After snorkeling, my advice is not to here. The current is strong. Very shallow, which is nice, but nothing to see. Sea bottom is covered in silt. Take a boat to a good spot.

    Bring your own sunscreen!

My only significant complaint is that the cost of sunscreen in the gift shop was $50 (I asked for the smallest, reef-friendly bottle). Then I asked for the cheapest sunscreen - about 8 ounces for $30. Although I expect a mark up at a resort, a 300 to 500% increase was the steepest I have encountered. I only pack a carry on when I travel so limited liquids allowed and I needed to buy a few items. I ended up mooching off friends. I'll give my $50 to charity. I wish the gym had opened about 30 minutes earlier than it did. Otherwise, the resort was lovely. Decent food and drinks. Nice setting. Friendly staff.

    Incredible, fun and relaxing.

This place is paradise. The quality and variety of food is off the charts, the staff are fantastic and genuinely friendly. The reefs are stunning, the beaches are breathtaking and I never want to leave. I started my day with a fantastic yoga or Pilates class with the fabulous Monolo who also leads the aqua Zumba. The overall experience is one that generates a real sense of well-being.
