Decent, but not the former Secrets Capri

My wife and I just got back from Hyatt Zilaria Riviera Maya, formerly Secrets Capri. Overall, we would rate it 3.5 stars. BEACH: Nice sandy beach and during our stay, there was no seaweed. Plenty of beach chairs, but like many resorts, get there early for a palapa. You can also rent a beach cabana for around $90 a day. There is drink service, but no food service. This we thought was actually a good thing because there wouldn’t be any birds divebombing you for your tacos! POOL: There is one pool with a swim-up bar. Unless you had a swim-up room, which we did. The main pool was small with zero entry areas at both ends which was nice. However, one day there was some brown liquid coming from one of the jets in the pool. We don’t know what it was, but we decided to back to our swim-up room pool! There is drink service at the main pool, which was excellent. But, again, no food service. Some of the pool towels were dirty or stained and not of good quality . SERVICE: Service in the restaurants was very good. Especially Michelle at El Comedor and Ivan at the Capri Grill. We received excellent drink service from a variety of servers at the main pool and throughout the bars at the resort. However, room service was abysmal. You had to order sparkling wine by the glass because they would charge you $25 for a bottle. So, we would order 4 glasses everytime. When we tried to explain to them that 4 glasses equals a bottle, because the bottles are slightly smaller than we are accustomed to, they couldn’t comprehend. It just made for a frustrating experience. Moving on.. ROOM: As stated above, we had a tropical view king swim-out, room 124. It received mid-morning to late afternoon sun which was nice. It was secluded as it seemed we were always the only ones in the pool. The shower had a hand held shower head as well as a rainfall shower head. It was excellent. The bathroom had double vanity sinks and a separate toilet with a full wooden door. The bed and pillows we thought was very comfortable. There were three drawers, plus nightstands and a closet for your clothes. Bring extra hangers though. The lighting could have been much better as there wasn’t any overhead lights. Minibar consisted of beer, water and soft drinks. No bottles of alcohol like Capri had. HOTEL: Check in was fast with a welcome drink and cold towel. However, like everyone says, beware of the timeshare pitch. The person we had was rude and aggressive. We said no. The hotel is small, but I think laid out nicely with a lot of areas to sit and relax with the beverage of your choice. There are two smoking areas. One by the lobby and one by the south side end of the beach. Check out was fast. Almost all the workers we met were friendly and professional. FOOD/DRINKS: The breakfast and lunch buffets were good, but small. If one was staying here more than a week, you may get tired of the selections as they didn’t change much. We ate at Capri Grill for dinner which we thought the food was excellent. Ivan provided us with exceptional service. We also ate dinner at Tempest, which is their Japanese themed restaurant. We dined at the teppanyaki table with a very nice couple from Texas. The food was fresh and delicious provided by Julian who entertained us as he cooked our dinner. We also enjoyed dinner at Lola Beach on our last night. Drinks in the beginning were inconsistent. I think you are better off ordering drinks with only a couple ingredients, such as a rum and Coke. SUMMATION: It is a small resort which has decent amenities. The people who work there are friendly and professional. Although Hyatt did add the swim out rooms which was a plus from the former Secrets Capri resort, it lost a lot of little things that Capri had. Overall, we probably would not come back here because there are so many other adult only resorts which simply offer more options and amenities. Steven and Heather Rhode Island

Great kid free experience, wonderful food and incredible service.

The resort was clean and the service was incredible. Ask for Alejandro "Alex" on the beach or go see Nelson at the pool bar. We wanted for nothing during our stay. The service really made this place but the restaurants were also very great to eat at. Tempest had a sushi experience and a Hibachi experience plan on doing them both during your stay. Order the spring rolls with the coconut sauce and you can thank me later. I would definitely attend again if my kids will allow me to travel without them.

OK hotel to spend no more than 3 days.

Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya is an average hotel. Hotel has smell, moister and animals walking everywhere, (looks like racoons) not pleasant to be around them. Units looks clen but it is an older building, needs constant repairs, beach is not the best, a lot of derbies, activities are limited and limited food options, not what I expected from Hyatt.

    Boring place ever !!!

Nice resort but the place is empty, only one or two restaurants open at night , the buffet is not open 7 days. There’s nothing to do at night, just a few show once in a while and no music even during the day !!! Very boring place and the receptionist Anna is not nice bad attitude !!!

Small resort which is good for short stays but avoid if you plan a 5 day or longer stay.

Because the resort is very small, there are limited dining options which all were disappointing for us. Food lacked warmth and seasoning. The check in process felt long after having a long day of travel. The concierge encouraged us to take a “tour” of the newer Secrets resort which ended up being a sales pitch for Unlimited Vacation Club (avoid the scam). In return for our participation in the sales pitch we were given a Romantic Dinner in the beach which didn’t happen due to weather and a cabana on the beach which also didn’t happen due to weather. The resort itself is okay but leaves a lot to be desired. Rooms are clean, AC works, the swim-out pool was incredible. Staff mostly are not bilingual. Room service was incredibly slow and once food came it was cold and lacking of flavor. Unfortunately we would not stay at Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya again.
