When in San Diego, you MUST go to the Hotel Del!
We stayed this past weekend on a staycation. After visiting the hotel for the day many, many times - it is one of our favorite places in San Diego - we decided to stay over night for the first time since 1993. Let me say it was an incredible stay - everything was perfect! First - the room. I paid for a garden view ($30) and it was totally worth it. We had to wait for the room to be ready (after 4), but we're glad we did. The balcony and view from the room was so beautiful - we could see the main turret, lit up so beautifully at night. Next, we took tours - the Legendary Tour and the Haunted Happenings Tour. We weren't sure if we'd learn anything since we've been going to the Del for many years, and my husband has done lots of research on the history and is a collector of Del ornaments and other memorabilia. But, we certainly did - lots of new information on the Legendary Tour about the history that we didn't know. Same with the Haunted Happenings - lots of stories and visiting the tunnels was so interesting! Our tour guides were Jeani and Elaine who were both very knowledgeable, informative, and entertaining. We highly recommend. The other thing we highly recommend is the weekend brunch in the Sheerwater restaurant. We've been going there for a couple of months on Sundays since it is so amazing. Seafood, steak, wonderful breakfast choices (including made to order omelets) - and all flavorful, fresh, and delicious!! The price is actually not too bad - $65 for the quality and selection doesn't seem outrageous to us. Our server, Kristen, is so great that we now specifically ask for her table. Can't compliment the service from her - and the food enough. One last shout out - the 1888 gift shop. You MUST go there to see Christmas ornaments and all things Hotel Del. The staff person there, Larisa, is truly incredible with her knowledge of the hotel, interest in her customers, and ability to sell the amazing things in the shop. We make it a point to stop and talk to her every time we visit since she is so kind and fun to talk to. Thank you, Hotel Del, your amazing staff, and incredible facilities - truly a gem that is unique, special, and unforgettable. We hope to visit again soon!!!

Iconic and Classy
Truly an iconic place. The Victorian building is absolutely lovely and I enjoyed walking through seeing it as well as all the historical photos. We stayed in the Cabanas and had a beautiful ocean view and could watch the sunset from our room. Dreamy as we were escaping the cold DC winter for a few days. There was a housekeeper on our floor ( I hate I missed her name) who was great and helpful several times. Also Lacey, who teaches the fitness classes, is AWESOME! I had so much fun attending her paddleboard yoga class and beach spin. Finally, The pizza at Eno was good; we also had a nice dinner above the pool for sunset. The food is $$$ for what you get but that’s expected in this setting.

Pricey but Iconic Hotel in Corondo, a Jewel of the Island!
First of all, I had wanted to stay at this hotel since I was a child growing up in upstate NY, so I was beyond excited to finally get the chance to spend two nights here with my husband in January 2023! I was not disappointed: The Del is even more beautiful and grand in person! The lobby with its crystal chandelier and dark wood ceilings and walls is simply breathtaking. I loved the many vintage photographs displayed throughout, and visiting the Ice House museum on property, which explains some history of this iconic property. Our room itself was on the smaller side, but with a comfortable bed and linens and a large deck with table and chairs, so we were able to enjoy having a drink or two while looking out on the courtyard below. One thing to note is that the rooms can be a little hard to locate, as the hotel can be a bit maze-like. For instance, our room was 3242, but was actually located on the second floor, not the third floor, which we figured out after being a lost for about ten minutes. However, since we were walking around The Del and I had only one rolling suitcase, I had no complaints! Our Uber driver also unfortunately dropped us off at the back entrance instead of the front, and there were no signs to direct us to the reception area. Sleep quality was great, except for my husband was woken in the middle of the night by a very loud knock or noise at our door, but upon opening it he saw no one there, so perhaps there is some issue with the locking mechanism? Yes, everything on property (restaurants, shops) is very pricey, but it is a resort and the iconic property on Coronado! We also found the two restaurants we visited (Sheerwater and Serea) excellent quality, once you get over the sticker shock. Drinks at the Babcock & Story bar were tasty, but again, expensive. The hotel itself is still magnificent, but it was showing its age upon close inspection. It must be difficult to keep up a wooden property that old, and it definitely still felt well taken care of and loved. We left only days ago, but are already talking about returning to the Hotel Del Coronado!

Stay away. Very disappointing stay.
Very disappointed in our stay here recently. It took 30+ minutes to check in because there were not enough desk agents. Upon check-in, we provided our Hilton Honor Rewards number to then have to file a missing stay report after checking out because they failed to add the numbers to our rooms. We rented a suite specifically to hold meetings in and were told the wrong building name (Which resulted in our guests going to the wrong building). Prior to booking the suite for business meetings we were told that we could request extra chairs if needed. Upon arrival, we spoke with 3 different hotel employees (Including Kylie, the manager) requesting additional chairs and were told they did not provide chairs. We had to drive to a store to purchase chairs for our meeting. Between the leaking ceiling in our suite, the multiple blaring (middle of the night) fire alarms, the inoperable elevators, the inability to extend our checkout by 30 minutes, the 20+ minutes standing at the bar (Only 2 bartenders, despite a fully booked hotel) to order rediculously over priced drinks ($50 for 2 house pinot noirs & a $40 grey goose bloody mary), the lack of room service to order coffee for our meetings (or any food/drinks through room service at all) because the hotel does not offer any type of room service, the $75/night valet (where you cannot request your car to be brought up unless you are physically present and willing to wait 10-20 minutes) it is safe to say that we will never be back. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. Stay at a Marriott property down the street - you will enjoy the normal amenities expected when traveling (At a fraction of the cost).

Beautiful Christmas Lights
Didn’t stay here at this iconic hotel but visited on a tour and was blown away by the beautiful Christmas Lights The pictures don’t do them justice but would suggest if you are in the area at that time of year you go visit. We saw them via a night trolley bus reviewed elsewhere on this site.
