25th anniversary trip
.Room was musty smelling on arrival- got better. No Wi-Fi during stay with poor cell service, had to leave property to look things up:( supposed to get a credit but have yet to see it. Overall property nice, not terribly noisy on our floor. Room was nice. Beds not so comfortable, pillows flat.

Lots to love about this place!
We've had such a great time! We loved the pools and amenities and of course we loved Duke's as well. We made wonderful lifetime memories here. The beach is amazing here. a few rocky places but it's great for snorkeling. Mahalo and Aloha, until next time!

Love to stay at this Resort!!!
We Love to stay at this Resort!!! It is laid back Ka'anapali that has the perfect combination of a great location, up to date condos with full kitchens, an absolutely wonderful staff, complete with an on-resort Duke's Maui Restaurant. Seriously, what more can you ask for? Managed by Outrigger Hotels and Resorts, which is a top-notch company. We decided that we would try a resort, up country view for this stay, and found it was relaxing with a beautiful view. Brett Ballinger, General Manager, has an efficient Front Desk Manager, Adriana Hussey, along with Emeline Lile Puteni, Front Desk Supervisor. We had some minor TV issues, and the engineering staff, Stanley and Guillermo were there right away to swap out our remote to make it work. Great Valet Staff - Kai and JD became Friends! Also love Julie at the Activities Desk, as she is very friendly and helpful. Again, Love this Resort!!!

BEWARE: Bug infested rooms!
Our most recent stay at Honua Kai was a complete disappointment. We've stayed 3 of the past 4 years and it's become clear things have gone downhill. We encountered a series of problems during this visit that made our stay less than pleasant. First, we were assigned to a room that ended up being infested with BUGS/roaches (not just talking one or two, but several). After informing the front desk, we were assigned to another room, however, our problems didn't end there. For the next few days, a large crane they were using for painting the hotel blocked our ocean view balcony, making it less than ideal to enjoy the view we paid for (and there was not ONE single mention that this work would be happening before our visit). Not only was this a major inconvenience for the price we paid, but the constant noise from the crane was also a burden for relaxing outside. I should also note that in transit to our 2nd room, the hotel's power went out (almost leaving my family and I stranded in the elevator - luckily we walked out seconds before it cut). And to boot, the ceiling in the hallway caved in! Some quality concerns going on here... When I brought up our concerns to the hotel staff manager following our check-out, she seemed reluctant to want to "make things right" in the spirit of what I would say should have been good hospitality. Instead she was combative to the issues I raised and only offered to discount the room by a measly $65 a night. Overall, our experience at Honua Kai was a complete disappointment. The bugs in our first room, followed by the crane blocking our balcony for several days, made our stay far from enjoyable. We were deeply disappointed with the lack of concern and attention from the hotel staff. We cannot recommend this hotel to anyone at this point.

Beware phantom charges to credit card
This is the 2nd time my family stayed at Honua Kai. Our first time was 9 years ago and it was great so we returned. We were told upon arrival there is no room cleaning/housekeeping during stays but we could request items if needed like soap or towels, which is fine. They needed a credit card upon check in and placed a $100 hold on it for incidentals, which we never used and that charge disappeared after we checked out. The dishes, glasses and mugs in the kitchen were visibly dirty with stuck-on food when we arrived so we used the dishwasher before using anything. We saw no insects. The rest of the room was clean. The stores had everything we needed at high prices. Grocery store across the street was convenient to walk to. Dukes Beachhouse is great for any meal and we never had a reservation and never had to wait. There were a lot of children in the pool areas and pretty crowded every afternoon. The tvs in the rooms were confusing to find channels with no printed guide and no streaming or internet connection. A printed tv guide in the room would’ve been good. We had a partial ocean view room but the sliver of ocean we could see from our balcony only was so small and far away, we couldn’t see anything. At our last stay we actually saw whales from our balcony. Parking in the underground lot was never a problem for us. The surf at the beach near the resort is too strong for snorkeling. At Black Rock (driving distance, not walking) there were people snorkeling but the waves were rough. A big turtle swam up and kids were standing on it while it swam while a man videotaped it for a long time until the turtle finally got away. No one was there to control the crowds and no lifeguard. With no notice, the day after I got home Honua Kai charged my credit card on file $387.48! I called their front desk and they said it was a mistake, they apologized and said they’d reverse the charge, which she said was a cleaning fee. Then they didn’t reverse the charge! Now they won’t return my calls or emails. I’ve contacted Costco Travel where I bought my travel package, and my credit card company to get this charge reversed. My family had another room like mine and they were not charged a cleaning fee. We left our room very clean and tidy. Investigations are ongoing. Hopefully the charge will be reversed a.s.a.p!! I will update this review when the charges are reversed. I believe the charge was made by mistake and should have been reversed as promised.
