Definitely not AdultsOnly!! Not a 5 star!
Let me start off by saying that Sunwing owns this resort which explains a lot! I travelled with my family from Dec. 20-27. Upon arrival there was no one at all to greet us off the bus. No welcome drink, no staff in sight. We had to ask other guests where the Hideaway area was and pull our luggage a good walk in to the check in area. Upon check in, my adult children were given a king bed instead of the double beds we had booked weeks before. Had to wait until the next day to be moved. We asked for an extra pillow and someone actually went to our kids’ room and took one of their pillows and gave it to us. Mind boggling. Bathrooms are very small, showers are tiny. Our bathroom had a bad smell. We booked the diamond Club and other than a bottle of wine in the room, there were no other perks. We had a butler who booked our dinner reservations but anything else we asked for like snacks, beer in our room was not forthcoming, and yes we tipped him very well. Food was very good at the Hunter Steakhouse but other than that it was mediocre and never consistent. The Dorado service was very poor with long wait times to order. We would sit for 20 minutes before someone took our order. We ate breakfast once at the buffet, horrible experience. Long lineups, no one serving coffee or water, and watching water drip from the ceiling into a bucket beside us. Bar staff never seemed happy or pleasant, other than Estrella who was open, friendly and gave us top notch service. This is not adults only. There is an enclosed adults only pool (not very big) but once you come out those doors you are fully in the family section. The only adults only restaurant is the Dorado and the menu is quite limited. If you want to use the snack bar or the burger stand, NOT adults only. However beach is beautiful, Hideaway section at the beach is a very small area. Would not recommend this resort at all. Have paid a lot less in the past at other resorts and had a better experience.

Poor service of behalf of hotel staff. Poor food quality and preparation at the restuarants.
From the first day we experienced bad service at check-in as well as complete disregard by staff at the Hideaway when we tried getting an upgrade so we could get assistance with making reservations at the restaurants. Not only were we lied to by the front desk when we complained about our phone in the room being broken, we had many issues making reservations at the restaurants. The food at several of the restaurants we were finally able to book was inedible. So we ended up eating at the buffet most of the time, which was not very good, but better than the service and quality of food at the 2 restaurants we were able to get into. The only good experience was with our bartenders, namely Juan at the Hideaway bar. Juan was amazing! Also, kudos to Gigi who went out of his way to make us comfortable at the pool and made sure to bring us lunch almost every day.

Not a 5 star resort
Great location (beach & ocean). The facilities were good - the pools and loungers were nice but super crowded with people claiming spots before 10am. The people were very friendly. We enjoyed the spa (extra fees) and gym (free). But let's be clear, this is not a 5 star resort. If this was a 4 start resort we would have given a higher rating. The rooms were dated were dated. We had one day where our room keys didn't work and we had to go to reception 10 times between noon and 10pm to have it resolved. No available pool/beach towels on one day so we started hoarding them. In 7 nights we were only able to secure reservations for 2 nights and one of those we had to pay $200+ to have that reservation - and the food was blah. There was no age appropriate entertainment for 20 year olds. And of course there's the sales pitch which took 2 hours of our vacation and no we didn't join. Go for the beach and enjoy the buffet (which wasn't bad)

Not Adult
This rating is for the advertising of adult resort. We have been at shared adult resorts. Such as paradisius in Cancun. This is not like that. This has Family and kids in every single area excluding the one small corner called hideaway. There are maybe 8 beach loungers in a 10x 30 area with a bar. The only other area is the hideaway pool away from the beach view. We have the diamond club. The reserved areas for this all have kids. The restaurants the beach every where. All over the entire resort. So if you want an adult resort DO NOT book at the hideaway Royalton.

Stay Away. Not Top Tied. Food Meh
This is not “autograph” JW, Ritz level hotel. Around a fair Courtyard at best. Food mediocre at best. And must reserve 24 hrs in advance. Staff rude. Treated guests poorly. It’s like calling a Fairfield Inn a JW. Almost no beach (not wide). Parked with guests even in off season. Not private. Anyone can get on it — there’s a warning about the beach. Hideaway is not private. 2 blocks of hotel rooms in a multi block area. Across from kids section. It’s a family resort. Lots of kids. Anyone can come through “hideaway blocks”. Children. Anyone. No one to keep it separate or private. Casino is 1/3 to 1/4 size of cafeteria. Have to ask for late checkout 10 am day of departure — 2 hours before normal check out. You cannot leave the compound without checking out with front desk. Don’t recommend it. Don’t get sick here. No view of water. Rooms aren’t oriented to view water. ! Avoid All Inclusive, Especially this one. Captured. So no need to “battle” for your business. Thus no food level competition. Virtual no choice for breakfast or lunch. You get what you pay for. Thought priced because DR less expensive. Priced because it’s just cheap. And things were cheap.
