Love the Grand Wailea but go when construction is complete

We love going to the Grand Wailea. It is beautiful, The beach is gorgeous and user friendly. The staff is more than accommodating and usually the restaurants and fantastic. We just went March 2023 and there was a lot of construction going on so some of the restaurants were not open and the spa was closed. We knew it when we booked but didn't realize the impact it would have. Good food is such a big part of a great vacation. We were quite limited at the resort, even the grotto bar was closed. They had a temporary spa set up but that too was not the full experience. We still had fun but it's much better when everything is open. Try to go when construction is complete or at least most of it. It is a beautiful place.

Love the old GW, farewell for now to the current version and the construction, mess, noise and lack of food options..

We’ve been to the GW several times so we have a number of years to compare to. This stay was rough, it’s a beautiful property and the pool is amazing, those two things cannot offset the endless noise, it’s bad and unending. Feels like they are 2-4 years away from being done. We won’t return until it’s complete. Another other issue is the cost is 30% greater than in the past but the general service is worse the staff is kind but they are very serious about protecting the pool and property from non-guests and the byproduct of that is the staff sort of assumes the worst - like everyone is trying to use the pool illegally. I’m not exactly sure how to explain it but as a guest it doesn’t feel welcoming…they need to tone that BS down. I want to stay in the hotel that I knew in the past - we don’t feel good about spending tens of thousands for a family of 7 any more or at least until the construction is done and the property, services, store and other amenities improve. Farewell for now GW. Maybe see ya in 5 or 7 years..

If you like construction noise and sunburns you’ll love the Grand Wailea

Major renovations and enormous noise. But the most devastating aspect of this resort is the lack of free umbrellas around the pools. If you want shaded lounges you must rent very very expensive cabanas. The property is beautiful but extremely expensive. Rather than eating and drinking on property walk over to the Shops at Wailea 5 minutes away and buy food and booze. There are much better and more affordable restaurants 15 minutes away. Just make reservations 4 weeks in advance.

Beautiful property right on the beach. Service from every aspect was a 10.

The property and service is amazing. Especially the hospitality from Napua. Armi in particular stands out as she truly cares and is proud to showcase all the amenities the resort has to offer. Best resort in Maui!
