Okay, but would not return
Though the resort has a very nice feel and the wildlife around is really nice. The resort didn’t seem worth the money we paid. The beach chairs weren’t comfortable, and there weren’t enough tables for every pair to have one. The food was okay, but the buffets were small and lacked variety. The Al la carted require a reservation and there is no evening buffet except for on their Mexico themed night. We didn’t eat dinner until 9:15 the first night because of this. There are a lot of small things that in their own wouldn’t be an issue, but together add up and start to make an impact. Didn’t have a bad time, but have also had way better times are other resorts.
Just So So With One Big Miss
Our first impression of the hotel was not great. We arrived late due to problems with transportation from the airport (not the hotel's fault) but our check in although efficient was neither welcoming or friendly. There were a few drinks in flutes set on the counter and eventually we asked if they were for us. Tasted like koolaid but at least cold. Due to our very late arrival, the check in person told us to go right away to BLoved which was the only place still open. So a cart took us there and dropped us off and it was a little awkward as we hadn't been to our rooms yet. Bloved does not look like the photos. It is tired, furnished like a cafeteria and there is mold and mildew on the wood. We had a terrible meal there, maybe because they were closing but it wasn't good. And then we tried for 30 minutes to get a ride back to our rooms. We had had no hotel orientation and had no idea where our rooms were. Eventually this got sorted. Rating C+ The Room: clean, medium sized, large shower. The mattress was comfortable but the bed linens although clean had a grey tinge from too many washings. The balcony was not pleasant and our view was of a service road and some bushes. But everything was well maintained, toilet flushed, lots of hot water etc. The mini bar was kept filled and with the exception of one day, housekeeping was good. Our room had a big sign on it saying Congratulations On Your Wedding. We appreciated the sentiment but its about 40 years late. LOL. Rating B as far as it goes. (see big problem below) The Resort Layout: The resort is linear with the lobby at one end and the pool and buffet and beach etc. at the other, A la carte restaurants and rooms cut off from the path in between. As others have mentioned the stone path and bridge are pretty and shaded and make for a nice walk if one is not deluged with coatis. Rating B. The Pool: medium to large sized but there is only one. Everyone heads there. buffet is there, gym, spa and entertainment. Pool temperature was good and very clean and the swim up bar was nice. There is not a lot of room around the pool and for some reason they line the chairs up very close to the entrance to the pool. The only steps to the pool that aren't blocked are the ones over by the the pool bar/spa. We found it a pain to get into. You either squeezed through chairs, stepping over beach bags etc or walked way down to the other end. Also one section of the pool has a volleyball net across it and there was only one game played there all week. Seems a waste of pool space. Rating B Beach: nice soft sand, lots of chairs. It was very ,very windy when we were there although warm and the ocean was very wavy. Not sure if its always like that or it was just the time of year. It was a lot of fun to play in the waves but swimming was tricky. And sitting on the beach was a hair blowing experience. Rating B+ Buffet: pretty good. I've had better but not bad. The hostess was excellent, always smiling and greeting you but totally in charge of that restaurant. We ate there Breakfast and Lunch and would have eaten there at dinner if it had been offered. Rating B. A La Cartes: The Grill. No ambience at all. High ceilings and echoey, like a banquet hall or conference room, nothing that said steak house at all. Food was so so Steaks tasted OK but gristly and tough. The drinks were pretty bad. We ordered vodka sodas and they tasted awful. We thought maybe they'd used bad tequila instead of vodka. But our server replaced them and they tasted exactly the same. It was like they drained left over clear liquors of any type into one bottle. We just gave up. Rating C- Toscana: Italian. Not terrrible. Same lack of ambience. Put some candles on the tables! Lower the ceilings.! Same pasta you get at the buffet. Overcooked but edible. The soup was good. Rating C. Terrace Tapas: We had a reservation for 8.00. When we got there they had no table for us as some other guests were lingering. They asked us to come back in 30 minutes. We did so but they still had no table so we decided to give up. Luckily La Toscana fit us in. The atmosphere of the Terrace looked very nice but be aware the path to it is not well lit and is uneven. We saw a couple trip badly ahead of us. Rating D. Rauxa: Did not go. BLoved: we had a bad experience the first night and didn't go back. In retrospect we should have given them another chance. Rating C. Adelina - Mexican. Again, no ambience at all. Efficient but cool service. Food hit and miss. Liked the mole and enchiladas but the fajitas were very ordinary. Better at the buffet. Rating: C Privilege Club: We always pay for an upgrade if possible but this one wasn't worth it. We never sat in the privilege section of the beach, there are no pool perks and the only benefit we realized was the discount on wine. We had no contact with a concierge other than my husband trying to set up a dinner for my birthday. Rating D. Romantic Beach Dinner: As I said, the beach was very windy and the night of our dinner was the worst. The hotel suggested we skip the beach and let them set us up in BLoved with the same dinner menu. We agreed but when we got there, no one knew we had made the change. They were able to scramble but the issue was that we ended up eating with everyone else, no tablecloth, no flowers, nothing "romantic" The concierge who had arranged the dinner with my husband had said he would provide a birthday cake which never appeared. Disappointing but the surf and turf dinner was actually pretty good, especially the seafood skewer. When we returned to our room, they had put flower petals on the bed. Rating C+ Spa: We took advantage of the free 30 minute massage and paid extra for a better massage with aroma therapy. The spa is old and dark and not luxurious at all. The "relaxing " room is like a basement with a bunch of older lounges. The hot tub is like a large home version. We didn't bother. The massage itself was very good and the masseurs were great. They need to upgrade this space. Rating C for the Spa and B+ for the masseurs. Entertainment: The pool animation team was hard working but its the same old routine, stretch, aqua aerobics, bingo, dance lesson. Nothing original. Due to the fact that there is only one pool, everyone has to listen to the aerobics music. Given that participation was never more than 15 -25 persons, it was unfortunate to spoil the other (majority) vacationers' experience , those who want to lie in the sun, or read or whatever. Many hotels have a party pool and a quiet pool but not available here. Rating C Service: Excellent from all staff. Kudos to Bryan and Roberto in the buffet and the hostess. Rating: A Lobby Bar: Located near the lobby (duh!). Not very big. It shares a space with the Mexican a la carte but overflows into the main lobby Some nice entertainment going on there Quartet, Saxaphonists etc. who were very good. Drinks are hit and miss and watered down for sure. House wine is awful. Rating: C+ Big Problem: We paid extra for Privilege Club and were given a room in a building directly above where they are razing the bottom floors. All day long there was drilling, hammering and worst of all jack hammering. Forget it if you wanted to get out of the sun for a while in the afternoon or have a siesta. We couldn't even talk in our room without shouting. When we complained we got an apology. They were sorry. We said they should never have put guests in those rooms affected. Its just greedy. but heh, they were sorry. Overall we had a nice time with our family and enjoyed the warm weather but we will not be back and cannot recommend this resort. Food was not great, the a la cartes lacked any ambience at all, the one pool design is limiting and we had the huge noise issue with our room. The Mayan Riviera is great but there are so many other resorts in that area that are better.
The Best in Mexico
This place amazing. There is nothing i can say negative. I just came back from this resort. If i could i could give 10 stars. Food is very good. Services are very nice and everybody smiling and being helpful. Do not fail for negative reviews. I go to south every year twice. And this place is one of my top 5 right now. I would definately return. Reservation for restaurants well done , simple online application and you can reserve day 1 to day 7 everynight right away. All restaurant amazing. But me and my wife's favorite was Grill and Mexican restaurants. Dont worry about Seaweeds. if there is any they clean right away and following hours you wont see any. we were there 7 days. first day there were a little seaweeds. but started to clean early in the morning. Rest of the days there was nothing. For check out , do not come down with luggages becasue , the road is not good for luggage wheels. we carry ourselfes which we didn t know to checkout first and they are brginging luggage for us. :) So go to checout desk firsy then tell the reception to bring your luggage, they are more then happy to do it for you. :D
