    Second visit to Catalonia

This was my second visit to Catalonia and I already look forward to returning. The employees here are so friendly and helpful at every angle. From the waiters, front desk staff, security, housekeepers, everyone greeted us with a smile and helped us any way they could. The food is excellent and the drink service is unmatched. The rooms are stunning - we had 2 rooms, a regular room and the duplex and the duplex is so worth it. The view, private pool, and amenities made our vacation that much better. 10/10 recommend this resort.

STAY AWAY!! Advertised as 4 star more like 2 or 3 star

STAY AWAY!! Our second trip to this resort - it will be our last. Check In: We were dropped of at the family Catalonia and not the adults section. Once we made it to the correct check in desk the check in was quick. The resort now uses the bracelet system to gain access to your rooms. Good idea but the design of the bracelet is awful. Big square chips held on with wide ribbons which are not adjustable. Be prepared for a watch like tan line on your arm. We have used a similar system at a Royalton Chic resort but their chip was a nice small oval and was held on with a thin durable cord which was easy to slide around on the arm and the badge didn't dig in. Food Quality: inconsistent. Breakfast - Most of the time the bacon at breakfast is under cooked to raw or so overcooked it just crumbles (burnt). buffet items are tepid (not hot or even warm). Sausages are hot dogs and bologna (yuck). Coffee is disgusting. One sip and your teeth are coated. Our last trip when you entered for breakfast you were offered a mimosa. Nice touch. This time no such offer. If you did ask for one you were lucky to get it. But the display just sat there. Lunch - you can usually find something to eat. Again it will be tepid and it will seldom stand out. Dinner - When you book as Privileged they advertise that you have access to the restaurants at the sister Family resort next to the hotel. What they don't tell you is that there are only a few seats at these sister site restaurants and if you don't make your reservations early forget it your not going there. The only restaurant we found to be very good was the Spanish restaurant on the sister resort. Every other was mediocre. Don't come to this resort for the food. Quality and preparation are awful. Drinks: inconsistent. Beer is on tap and seems to change with each keg opened. Sometimes tastes like a lite beer and other times has a more bitter stout taste. Forget high quality liquors unless you are an exclusive guest you will be drinking swill. We were booked as Privilege but I recommend if you must come here save your money as the Privilege section is not worth it. Certainly not better quality liquor. Vodka is like battery acid. Add to this that they typically over pour making it undrinkable. Don't know how many I had to dump my drink until I started going up to the bar and watching the pour. Room: Our room was in building 36. Rooms are nice and very well kept by the housekeeping staff. Our room always had mosquitos and night time was a feeding frenzy. I would get up in the morning and have 4 or 5 bites on my hands. I am allergic to mosquitoes so this was awful for me. By the second day I was covered in water blisters and blood blisters on my hands, legs, arms and back as well as large welts. I even managed to get one just below my lip which made my lip swell. Had to spend most of my vacation covered in mosquito spray. Outdoor restaurants were also a trial as they attack you legs and feet when you are eating dinner in the evening. Shopping: on site is ridiculous even though they have lots of shops. Prices are over inflated and you must either pay with a credit card or charge it to your room. I spent over $40 on a small can of bug spray and a small bottle of calamine lotion. The store vendors are not allowed to accept cash. Suffice to say my purchases were kept to a minimum. If they don't trust their employees why have them. Pools: Did not see one activities person or any activities on the adults side in the two weeks I was at this resort. This place is like the dead zone. Evening entertainment at the adults side was a joke and the entertainment on the family side was geared more for children. In closing this was our 2nd trip to this resort. Our first was about 5 years ago. The food and drink qualities have gone down substantially since our first trip. Same with the staff, Some wait staff are pleasant and a joy to interact with while others are sullen and make it apparent they would rather be someplace else. I would not recommend this resort. Poor quality for the money spent. If you want a top notch resort try the Chic by Royalton. Excellent rooms, food (forget the reservation nonsense), drink quality and staff are exceptional. Lots of activities all day long.

    1st time traveller since Covid

This is the first time since Covid that we travelled. The resort was beautiful, well manicured, very clean. We were welcomed with a drink, easy check in, and Andy showed us to our room. Great guy. The pool was great but the highlight of our whole trip was having the best bartenders ever. Carlito and Ashley looked after us everyday, always smiling, singing, and the best service. We hear Carlito has been there 21 years, well he is a keeper for sure. We ate at lots of restaurants but our favorite was the Japanese and Asian. The buffet for breakfast and lunch were awesome, so much to choose from. Our room was beautiful and I love the hammock on the balcony. Only 1 staff member didn’t seem happy or want to be there, all the rest were great. 2 ladies at the customer service desk helped us with paperwork, so thankful for them. The only thing I would say change is the pool. It’s too deep for a swim up bar pool, anyone that was short said they had to stand on top toes to stay above water… me included. I think they could make 1 end deep and let the other end be like 3-3.5 feet so people can stand comfortably. Other than that, our vacation was awesome and a 5 star rating
