Good value for the cost
We just got back from Catalonia Yucatan Beach resort (Feb 2024). Was hesitant when booking because of some of the reviews that I read, but we were pleasantly surprised. This is a four-star resort, not a five star resort. Some of the negative comments are things that you should expect at this price point. Positives are: It's located only a 5 minute walk into the town of Puerto aventuras. We love this and went in almost every day. If you get tired of the buffet dinners, go into town where there are lots of options. Town is very safe. We rented golf carts and went all over. Gated community with security. There is a dolphin sanctuary in town that we enjoyed. This resort has two sides, the Yucatan side gets green bracelets and the other side gets blue bracelets. Bracelets. You can use the facilities and the beaches on both sides, and the buffet on sides The other side has more options for à la carte but your vacation cost is approx $100 more per person. Food was decent, service was good . You can snorkel right off the beach which was heavenly. Bring water shoes, parts of the beach are a bit rockey. Some negatives were room was basic and a bit dated, however, they were always clean and beds are comfortable. Buffet didn't have a ton of variety but food was good and fresh. The app to book dinner reservations only worked one time for us. We have stayed at more expensive places like hard rock and royalton that are of course better but you pay double the price. Both my partner and I gave this place a 7/10 and with the location being so close to town, that bumped it up to an 8/10. Some reviews on here trashing the place are just crazy. People seem to complain about not getting things that they didn't pay for. People reserve chairs early by dropping towels (like every resort) however, there is a staff that tried to stay on top of it and will remove your towels if you drop them and don't come back for a few hours. Don't expect to pay for the cheapest place and get complete luxury. This was good value for the money and we would come back. We booked the spa which was a bit pricy for what you get. If you are a huge spa person, go to the Hard Rock instead.
Been there and will not go back ever!
Went to Catalonia Yucantan Beach from January 19th to February 1 st 2024,arriving at Cancun 30 mins late and took 1hr30mins to go through customs and get our luggage. No bus or air transat person at the airport, the bus had left and we had to take a taxi from airport to the resort which costs us 160.00 u,s, dollars. The hotel room was very clean, friendly staff, but no animation at the yacantan side, the beach is hawful and you need construction boots to get in the water, tons of big and small rocks. We were unable to reserve a la carte restaurants, the concierge wanted us to attend a 1hr meeting to try and sell us some kind of time sharing kit and since we did not want to go we were unable to bbook restaurants, she was saying it was all booked.i will never go back to that resort.i was disappointed in animations, food, and all pool chairs were reserved at 06:30 am, does not make sense. We had room 2145 and all delivery trucks were backing up right from our door, never could sleep further than 06:00 am.
My wife and I just came back from the Hotel Catalonia Yucatán and had the best time ever. I especially enjoyed my server Arturo Fernandez. He was so polite and friendly and always there to help. Truly an amazing person!!! I will for sure return!! Great people, great service and so helpful!!!
Catalonia side is definitely the worst Mexican trip experience I have ever had. To begin with, no room service or anything in your room. Two of the four rooms of our group had leaking showers or bathtubs. Our shower ceiling collapsed and it was mostly coated in black mould, I was in that shower an hour and a half earlier, what would they do if it collapsed on a person?!!? (it was patched up the next day and another couple was put in that room). Ocean view is the back side of the beach bar. Catalonia side is essentially treated as low status, people on the Mayan side got al la carte reservations all the time, I tried every single day at 8am and was unsuccessful (our collapsed ceiling compensation was a dinner at one wherever they could fit us). Bar didn’t open until 11, even getting water unless you were in your room or at the buffet was difficult. Oh and by 11, that means whenever they actually finish setting up, so maybe around noon, and only one bartender at each area serving 50 people right at that time is just ridiculous. Beach is sand over concrete. Chairs are impossible to get unless you reserve at 7:30 am- and guests will leave their things there all day and not show up… other resorts have time limits. Four stars should be 2 for this resort….. aside from the weather and being with an amazing group of friends, our week was completely not worth the money and the stress that came along with it….
Superb 2023/2024 new year celebrations with family
Great for light snorkelling and safe kayaking for small kids in the closed bay area, with swallow water. Great variety at big buffet (note there are two restaurant buffets). 2023/2024 new year celebrations was fun. Beaches were clean. Lagoon was safe.
