The Dominican Republic imposes various restrictions each year for Easter.  The restrictions usually begin the Thursday prior to Good Friday, and run a few days past Easter Sunday.  The following regulations may be enforced:
*Motorized and non-motorized watersports may be banned
*Alcohol consumption may be restricted  (most resorts obtain a special permit which enables them to serve alcohol to non-native persons during the ban)
*Music may be limited or silenced

These rules are designed for the safety of everyone, as beaches get extremely busy during this period.

    Great family vacation!

This is our first one week family's vacation to the Caribbean. The resort and the beach are great, we didn’t expect more for what we paid for the package. There are a lot of fun activities for kids and adults throughout the day, the lobby and beach bars are ready to entertain your reasonable needs, rooms are clean and maintained well. You would want to schedule your dinners and maybe lunches in four restaurants that are available on premise. I would recommend the Spanish and Asian ones, we were not impressed with the Italian one. The buffet food is plenty but you need to be careful about what you chose, stick to the basics and you will not be disappointed, e.g. fried eggs with fresh juice for breakfast. I should mention the highlight of our stay - the Mini Club - Raquel, Brenda and Kenia take excellent care of kids from 10 to 5pm every day! Our daughter loved going there every morning, participate in activities, lessons and parties in the pool and on the beach. In evenings we loved taking her to the Mini Discos and kids shows organized by club’s staff. Thank you!

    Bed Bugs in Hotel

I have never written a review but felt this experience was bad enough to write one. My boyfriend and I were trying to sleep on our second night there when he felt something crawling on him. After doing some investigating we found out our hotel room had bed bugs. We found them crawling on multiple areas of the bed. We should’ve checked upon arrival, but we didn’t think it would be an issue with mostly positive reviews. We immediately told the front desk and switched rooms. We went to the front desk multiple times to make sure nobody was placed in the room and in hopes that proper precautions were done. None of the staff seemed worried about the situation and the manager never followed up with us despite us reporting it several times and leaving our new room number. Needless to say it was not a stress free vacation. All we wanted was for them to apologize and take it seriously and neither happened.

    Not as expected

MOST HONEST REVIEW.... I never write review's but I felt this was needed. This was my fiancé's first trip out of the country so I wanted it to be an amazing experience. It fell very short. From the time was stepped on the resort we were asked if we booked with Royal or Bavaro. We told them Bavaro. Upon walking in it says your greeted with a welcome drink. The drink was a self serve, it was a dispenser of juice and a bottle of tequila that you had to make yourself. We checked in and were brought to The Catalonia Royal side of the resort. Upon going into our room, it had a bad odor and the bathroom mirror was cracked and broken. The tv was a size 24-32. We immediately called front desk and requested to be moved to the Bavaro Golf side of the resort because that is what we originally booked. We were moved to the correct side. The room had a bigger TV but the shower is not "Big person friendly". Its very tight and shares space with the toilet. The sink is on the other side, across the way in another room where the tub is but doesn't make sense. There is no dresser to put your clothes away and the closet is in the bathroom area. we hung up what we could but lived out of our suitcases for most of the trip. I will say the grounds are kept as expected. Food was not that great, we only enjoyed the food from "dinner on the beach" but they ran out of steak knifes so I was left with cutting my steak with a butter knife. Smh. Drinks are not strong/ watered down, seems like your sipping juice. They tried to get us to go to a presentation about the hotel but tricked us with saying its the hotels 25 anniversary and they are inviting us to have breakfast and receive gifts. They left out the part that its a 90 min presentation to get us to buy into the vacation club. Would I recommend this resort. Simply NO. Would I stay here or any other Catalonia resort. NO.. Hope this helps the next traveler.

    Best Animation team!!

Catalonia is the best hotel in Punta Cana!! The staff are so nice, the food is great and the rooms and clean (with great air conditioning). I highly recommend staying here! The Animation team makes every day so fun with their activities. Randy is the best!! Randy and Yery are so fun in the aerobics and dance classes. The pool party is my favorite activity. You have to check it out, I’ll be back soon!!

    Good time, NO AIRCON

We came here for a family holiday, and we had a lovely time. The hotel grounds were lovely, kept tidy and the wildlife was great, ducks, fish, terrapins and fish. They were great to see and the ducklings hanging around the pizza bar was very cute. We fed the fish in the sea which was really cool. The rooms were a bit of a let down, the aircon was absolutely terrible the lowest it would go down to was 24 degrees which when its 39 outside its still very very warm!!! We did complain and were told this is the lowest it goes, we know this is not the case as the friends we travelled with had theirs on 15. The rooms were very dated and a bit shabby. We pulled the plug from the coffee machine (which didn't work) out of one socket and the whole thing came out the wall. We had a hammock on our balcony which was a lovely treat and the kids loved chilling in it after a day at the pool. Food was great something for everyone at the buffet, again the only thing that was a letdown was there was NO aircon in the buffet restaurants. So, you couldn't enjoy your food as you were sweating so much you wanted to get out of there. The ala-carts were ok the steak house and Japanese were the best although the staff were miserable. these did have aircon! Check in was very slow after a long flight not what you want and again NO aircon in the reception area. The pool bar was great opens 10-6, it could be very slow if it was busy as there was only ever 1 person on each side of the bar (swim up and walk up). 4/6 of us had upset tummy's almost the entire time while here and after cutting out the obvious thing such as ice, meat, alcohol for a few days each we came to realize it was the juice that goes into the cocktails. I'm not sure what they had in them but after cutting the juice out 2 days before the end of our holiday we became better. My daughter and son both got ear infections i can only assume from the swimming pool, so bring ear plugs if you like to go under water. We did a trip to Saona Island, we got told 3 hours on the beach but only got 1.5 hours. DO NOT get a massage on the island they tried to con me said $30 so i went for one. When she had finished she told me $50 - the massage was no longer the 7 mins long! i refused to pay her $50 she is lucky she got $30 out of me. You can get a massage at the hotel for $35 for 30 mins, i had a sample and really wish i had waited to have one at the hotel. the Island itself was amazing just wish we got longer there. Monkey land was incredible i would highly recommend this trip especially if you have kids, we brought the picture package when there for $40 which was really reasonable as we got around 35 photos of our family. I didn't like the whole scaling of normal blue bands, orange privilege bands and then executive bands. i dont know why, it might be because i was a blue band but i just didnt really like it lol. It was a great distance from the airport which after a long flight is lovely! All in all we had a lovely holiday but do not choose this hotel if you're expecting aircon because it doesn't have any in the communal areas for you to cool down, and even in your room it could possibly be rubbish!
