Resort is ok
It amazes me that resorts don't try to put their best foot forward for new guests. Our first room was damaged worn and had black mould They changed us next morning to a renovated room but why would they even put someone in it in the first place. No beers in the rooms, which is a treat after a day in the sun and the food was good but selection fairly limited. The staff are not overly friendly with a few exceptions. Two requests were made for maintenance, neither was done. The resort was beautiful once and the grounds are still very nice. All in all it was fine as no trip is hassle free, but will explore other options in future
Very unsafe - WOMEN, DO NOT COME HERE
This is an unsecured resort in the middle of downtown Sousa 40 minutes outside of Puerto Plata. Our room was ransacked, ID, wallet and passport stolen, we were sexually harassed by the staffed, watched, and we believe one of us was drugged. Only with the help of our families and the Canadian Embassy did we get out of this horrible situation, and we fear this ending could have been a lot worse for someone else. Sex Trafficking, drugs, and violence are the very real things that could have been in our future because we were guest at Casa Marina Reef. Please please do not come here.
That front desk staff are useless
The resort is dated but satisfactory. Food was excellent, drinks were okay at best but the chances of latching onto a keg of beer that wasn’t somewhat skunky was hard. Don’t try and approach the front desk for anything, I think they’re trained to say no before you ask. The only patrons they smile at are the hookers that check-in. One card per room to prevent you from running the air conditioning during the day. If you have any sort of breathing issues be prepared to return to your room at 5pm to a room that’s 85 degrees.
Lemonade out of lemons.
Just returned from a week at Casa Marina with 16 family members. Everyone had an amazing time. The pool staff were fun , the views and sunset breathtaking and the weather was perfect. Unfortunately, I tripped over a curb and sprained my ankle. The medical centre was excellent and sent me to a private clinic for X-rays. The trip was not ruined by the accident and was made bearable by the help of the nighttime general manager Felix. Felix went above and beyond to ensure that I was comfortable and enjoyed the remainder of my stay. I have to give credit where credit is due and Felix deserves to be recognized as someone who says YES! We all concurred that most of the staff have a default answer -NO!! But not Felix. Thank you kind sir for taking good care of me and my family. This incident made us all realize it is important to make lemonade out of lemons. On a final note: The resort could use better accessible facilities and staff training to ensure everyone has access to all amenities.
DO NOT STAY HERE
This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The place is unsanitary and should be condemned. Photos shown on the website are a small section of the hotel. Staff, including Juan at the front desk is rude, old, frayed, dirty towels/sheets, NOT SAFE, hotel door did not lock and there is no security chain to keep anyone out. Any staff can use a master key and break in. I barricaded the doors with furniture. Changed rooms twice and offered to pay to upgrade - one room was worse than the other. The power went out every night at least 4 times. The food is disgusting. There is no full bar - they serve you from 2-liter bottles of soda and only coke and sprite. The toilet overflowed EVERYWHERE and I called for help three times and asked the maid. I was basically "shood" away. I found the mop and mopped it myself. They sent a guy with a plunger 45 minutes later and he dropped the towels on the wall into the water on the floor and hung them back up. Hair EVERYWHERE - in the sheets, in the towels, on the floors. Mold in the bathroom. If the neighboring room showered, the water was a trickle in my room. The shower did not drain. The toilet did not work - I had to open the tank and pull the chain up to get it to drain. Worst experience ever.
