Fun Fun Fun
Just got back from Canto Del Sol Jan 25-Feb 1, 4th time there and did not disappoint as usual we had a great pool side room and the fridge was filled every day. The buffet was good could always find something to eat, of course breakfast is always the best. Our waiter at the buffet (Silvia) was great always had a smile and look after us all the time. Our Pool waiter(German) was fantastic never had to wait for a drink and came around all the time barely had to leave my lounger. Entertainment at night was also pretty good not every night but most. Will definitely go back there again.
Decent 3.5-4 star Mexican resort.
Canto Del Sol is a nice basic resort. 3.5-4 star resort. You DO NOT want to be on the mountain view side or the old resort. We changed rooms once we arrived they billed us an extra $35 USD per night. Well worth it. Lots of people were moving as these other rooms are beyond bad. Buffet was very basic and really did not change from day to day. A la carte restaurants are decent. Surf and Turf one is by far the best. Staff around the pool are great. Pools are nice, beach is rocky. My main compliant would be the smoking areas. One is right beside the stairs going down to the beach. All the smoke blows everywhere (or people are too lazy to go down the stairs and they smoke right on the stairs) and even if you are sitting in one of the main lounging areas you can smell smoke all day. The same thing at the very front of the hotel. You have to walk right thru the smoking areas where these areas could be moved further away. Overall just a very standard resort.
Wonderful family vacation at Canto Del Sol (3rd time at this resort)!
Our family spent two weeks at the Canto Del Sol in January 2023. This was our third time there (also in 2018 and 2020), and once again we had a wonderful experience! For the most part, the visit was great. My father has Celiac Disease (severe gluten allergy) and in our past visits they were very good in labeling foods gluten-free in the buffet. That was actually a key reason why we booked there again. Unfortunately this time the labeling was not as clear. However, I'd like to commend two "Captains" at the buffet - Qunones during breakfast/lunch and Roque at dinner - who were more than helpful in looking after my husband's needs. But when they were not on duty, it was challenging to have to bother the staff (I always have a translation print out with me, but even with that there were challenges). On one of the evenings Rocque was not on duty, something my husband ate did not agree with him and he was quite ill for a few days as a result. But overall, we managed quite well and enjoyed the food and service. We very much liked the Surf and Turf restaurant, which most suited our tastes. Two other staff members I'd like to commend are Sergio at the Service Desk, who was most kind in getting my mom and dad moved from the Villa across the street, which was too far for them to walk with limited mobility, to the main resort building. Thank you again, Sergio. We also commend Fernando, our pool-side server (at the main pool) - always so friendly and accommodating with an infectious smile :) We also commend our Sunwing rep, David, who was very helpful and friendly as well. Thank you Canto Del Sol for another lovely vacation!
Stay away from the tower if possible.
Stay away from the tower if possible. We were taken to a room on the ground floor that even the bellman said was awful. He told us everyone asks for an upgrade when on this floor which ahs rooms in the 500s for some reason. There was no cold water ( no water came out of the tap), no Wifi and the bed was on giant roller and moved all over the place. Next day we went and got an upgrade to the main hotel facing the pool. This room was nice but cost an extra $373 CDN for 9 days. The food is at best very poor. The buffet always consisted of the same stewed chicken ,stewed pork, sloppy everything and all luke warm at best. The al al carts were mixed. The Italian was great with really good food and service. The surf and turf depended on what you ordered. My T-bone was undercooked and tough as a shoe but my partners salmon was great. The Asian had passable sushi but the barely warm miso soup and diced veg in a sauce that was suppose to be chop suey were not acceptable. The staff are amazing and very friendly.
Pedro For President
Pedro is the best. He will hook you up with all your drinks around the pool. Food is good as everything has its own flavour and tastes great. For drinks, ask for brands or you get fake Mexican brands. Rooms are small and need an update. But what makes the resort is the overall atmosphere, al le carte and service.
