    Don’t use the safe

The hotel itself is excellent the staff cannot do enough for you food is amazing everything was perfect Then money was taken from the locked safe the hotel supposedly completed an investigation and found no wrongdoing I felt like I was being accused. Not impressed at all the way the hotel has handled this I felt like I was the criminal if you go to this hotel I would take a personal lock box and not use the safe as the hotel will just cover everything up and do nothing. This ruined a holiday of a lifetime for me and something I will never get back not pleased at all.

Another great trip to Akumal……mainly positives

We’ve spent 10 weeks at this resort since May 2022 at Coba, Akumal & Sian Kaan, so quite familiar with the resort. I don’t like to big this place up to much as I love getting a nice deal from TUI haha. Rooms - tired & similar to Coba rooms but always kept clean & beds are comfy. Mini bars topped up each day including crisps. I only sleep in the room, so happy to pay the prices for here rather than Tulum (nicer rooms) as you get room service & ala cartes every night atAkumal. AC and fan in room kept it very cool (had to ask for the blanket to be put on after the first night) & it was silent enough not to keep me awake. Buffet breakfast/lunch: love the breakfast, they’ve sorted out the previous lack of bacon this time round. A lot of variety but we actually prefer Coba for lunch as less busy & easier to get food plus better deserts. Akumal for lunch is just very busy. Edgar if the main man for breakfast. First met him in 2019 & he’s still the best. Norma at Coba for breakfast/lunch is our favourite, hence why we went there for lunch a lot of days this time. Both Edgar & Norma provide great service, we never want for nothing. We met Norma in 2022 & we always go back to see her for a few lunches. Ask her for a sangria or mango tango, always seems the best from Norma. Edgar is a bad influence with tequila, even for breakfast. Ala cartes: Favourites are Alux (excellent service from either of the Roque’s but Roque with the new glasses is the best). Don Pablo (Javia). Dolce Vita (Alejandro will look after you well here). Maiko, le Gourmet & Mikado (need to get better AC here though) & of course Gran Tortuga. Drinks: can’t complain about the Smirnoff/Absolute/Skye vodka at all 4 hotels. I like the cocktails but they are sweet. Suggested improvements: Trolleys in evening/late arrival for Ala cartes- if your late 5mins for your meal, the table is cancelled & a $20 USD charge is made. This needs to be revisited as the trolleys getting to other hotels between 5.45 to 7 pm are an issue. We had to factor in 45 mins to get to other hotels. Sian Kaan was worse last year as we were struggling sometimes & had to give ourselves an hour to get places. Either put on more buggies at peak time or extend out the late arrival fee after 15 mins & try to give them a table if possible if they arrive within 15 mins. Akumal lunch - food needs replenished quicker when busy plus more tray meal varieties eg nice curry or stew similar to Coba as a quick tasty option. Join the loyalty scheme. We have black bands now. This means we can stay cheaper at Coba or Tulum but still get ala carte meals every night and get drinks at bars at other hotels (which you don’t get to do when staying at Coba/Tulum) Another great holiday and hope to be back again soon. The staff here are brilliant from reception, housekeeping, gardeners, waiters, entertainment team etc and deserve my tips as they give us such a great experience.

Do Not Stay Here - Not worth the Money

We stayed at the Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal for 1 week. The resort/rooms are definitely worn-out and in NEED of MUCH repair and restoration. LOBBY - The lobby is open to the outside, so NO A/C in there, hot and wet all the time. The roof leaks big time when it rains and it is a pool of water everywhere and people slipping. I saw like 5 people slip in a matter of 2 days. They do not do a good job cleaning up the water. Also, the lobby smells like stale pee - there are wild animals in the lobby, like bats and the Lemur looking things. Even sitting around the statue, you will get dripped on, from the roof. Bats live in the roof, you will see them flying around in the evening. Walking to the pool from the Lobby, is so scary. The buffet area hall way restrooms are nasty, never cleaned. The tile and roof by the lobby shop also fell down due to water leak. The lobby shop also had a water leak in there, in several places. The buffet sitting area also has some places that has leaks. The theatre is old and musty and smells and no AC. This is where they hold their nightly shows. ROOMS: We stayed in block 61 in the Premier Rooms that have been upgraded a few years back...and the are SMALL....but decent. The A/C works most of the time.... They do not give you hand towels or wash clothes, you have to ask for them. The linen is old. The key on the bracelet never hardly works - always ask for a physical key card. The process to turn in cards for pool towels is ridiculous. It is hectic to say the least and cumbersome to do this each and everyday. Taking golf trolley rides from Lobby to rooms is also crazy.. Sometime you are waiting upwards of 20 minutes. And then taking them to other Resorts like Coba or Tulum.....you will end up waiting up to 30 minutes trying to get a ride back, especially at night. SERVICE: Most everyone at the resort is helpful. They try to help when you have an issue - like with rooms or maintenance, or getting a reservation at a dining restaurant. DINING: It is a challenge to book reservations in the APP> the app is not user friendly at all. the FOOD is okay at best. We ate at several places in Akumal, Coba and Tulum and food is the same everywhere and not good at all. Overall, this was our first time AND Last Time at this resort. Not worth it at all on what you pay for...and the word "Luxury" needs to be removed from their name... Please folks, if you are reading this.....save your money... DO NOT STAY at a BAHIA Principe Property...

    Not a luxury experience

This was my first experience with the Bahia Principe resorts and I found the overall experience to be lacking in the quality that the resort promotes. My wife and I traveled with one other couple and we knew that a vacation in Mexico in June could include warm temps. While our experience on the beach during the day was adequate, the dining experience in the evenings was a terrible disappointment due to the uncomfortable atmosphere in each restaurant and lounge. From what we understood from staff, the management simply refused to turn on the air conditioning in the restaurants and lounge areas throughout our stay. The dress code for the restaurants encourages a nicer attire and yet, the hotel, which has the word luxury in it, created a sauna atmosphere that made our dining experiences very uncomfortable. After dinner there was nowhere to sit and relax that was cool or quiet as the resort must think that everyone wants to have loud music playing in every sports bar, lounge or lobby without cooling down the rooms. Even the theater areas were simply too uncomfortable to enjoy the shows and we just had to walk out during the performances due to the stifling atmosphere. The combination of hot, loud and uncomfortable simply drove us to our rooms each night to avoid sitting in our own sweat. We simply could not find a comfortable location to finish our day with friends and for that reason, I would not consider returning to the Bahia Principe Unluxury resort again.
