Wonderful stay, no issues or complaints from us

Quick review since so many have covered much of the details, just wanted to express my thoughts. We've been to several Mexico and other Caribbean destinations over the last 10-15 years and this resort rates up there with the best of them. Yes, as many others have stated, the rooms in this section are dated (about to be updated), but really, we couldn't see the problem with that. They were still attractive, clean, and everything worked perfectly (AC, hot water, plugs, etc). The a la carte restaurants were all fantastic, but I'll single out the Grand Tortuga for above and beyond service, food, and fun and the Los Corales due to being down by the beach along with great food. This area also served as a small breakfast buffet, which we came to every morning because of the food, service, and unmatched location. Pool chair games existed, which I hate, but we are early risers and were actually using them by 8:00 anyway. Plenty of shade on the beach if you prefer to sleep in, so not a worry unless you are a pool person, and then I guess you have to do what you have to do. The resort, overall is huge, but broken up into 4 compounds, all easily accessible by trams. I don't like huge resorts, but my wife does so she was thrilled, and I was completely fine with it as they are all very well separated and landscaped so it didn't feel so crowded and overwhelming. I will mention we spent a couple of days at the Sian Ka'an part of the resort which was amazing. We didn't book it due to the lack of beach (they do have a reserved section), but wouldn't hesitate to book it now. Beautiful environment and amazing food. Normal Mexico beachfront of coral sand (so rougher for those with overly sensitive feet), and not the typical seafoam green waters, but wonderful nonetheless. Quite breezy during our stay, but turned out to be a blessing for me as I found it hot (as I generally do). No real complaints there, but the Tulum beachfront looked better for those that like to play in the waves. For those that just like the feel of the beach and sound of the water, it was all great. Service everywhere was instant and fantastic. We couldn't believe how 'aware' all the employees were. Nothing went unnoticed and everyone was willing and ready to help you in any way. Can't say enough about how well everyone went about their job. They really made you feel like you mattered. They constantly asked what they could do for you, if you had any food allergies/concerns, welcomed you, etc. Everyone we talked with, or just observed, seemed to really be enjoying themselves and no one had any complaints we were aware of. Some of the previous reviews make me wonder how 'particular' some of the negative reviewers may be. I'm pretty easy to please, but I really can't see this resort being held to below 4 stars. Maybe some things didn't work out for everyone, but there was no way the food, service, location, amenities, etc. could have been lacking enough to be any less. This resort is exactly what it is: a fantastic All-Inclusive in the Mexican Riveria. Not everyone is looking for that, but if you are this more than fits the bill. We would definitely return and certainly recommend it to others.

    Lovely holiday

I went on this trip with my sister. We had a great time. If you're going for a beach, this is not the resort for you. They did a fantastic job of cleaning up the sargassium every morning. The beach has solid rocks of coral therefore is not a beach for walking, had high waves and is not the tropical blue. We spent most of our time around the infinity pool which is an adult only area. People place their towels there at around 5:00 a.m. therefore, if you come anytime after 8:00, they will not be any of the shade providing cabanas available. We had moved a towel at 7 am and when they arrived for their spot at 9:00 the crazy woman started screaming at us, calling us names and threatening us. The management handled it very well. The official rule is if there is a personal item placed on the seat you cannot move it. If it is just a hotel towel then you may. We had a different a la carte restaurant each night of our 7-day stay. They were all excellent, but I recommend you use the app to pre-book. The buffets were also excellent. I had been concerned when I read so many negative reviews, but I have no idea what they were all complaining about. As stated previously, the rooms need to be redecorated. The grounds were very well kept. Entertainment team was great and we did a lot of pool activities. The foam pool party was great fun and would also recommend the silent disco. Would absolutely return to this hotel again.

    Misrepresented 4-5 star

We went for our daughters weddings. Will never book with Tui again. They changed our dates and although we paid for premium seats, we weren’t able to sit together. The hotel is well below 4/5 star. Staff are fantastic and help in anyway they can. Didn’t see a rep the whole trip. All in all a total let down

A resort with something for everyone!!

A group of 8 friends stayed at this resort mid-March. We stayed in villa 49, which was a great location close to sports bar, main lobby, and pools, and beach not far either. Our room was clean and kept as cool as we wanted. We found the food to be very good; we could always find something to eat on the buffets and tried the The Food Truck restaurant on the beach and that was delicious. I had a massage on the beach, highly recommend Angela for a massage. We had restaurant reservations every night, we at ate Del Mar, Areliquin, Cozumel (Italian restaurant at Coba), and steakhouse (by infinity pool). My favorite was the salmon at the steakhouse, delicious!! The beach area was cleaned from seaweed every day. We brought snorkeling masks and snorkeled in 2 different area of the beach and saw so many fish! It was more than I’ve seen on snorkeling excursions in the past. The snorkeling was definitely a highlight of our stay! The bar service at the beach was great, anytime we were in a beach chair someone came around ready to take our order. Delmar was a fabulous entertainment director and we enjoyed trivia night at the sports bar during the stormy night of our stay. Overall, we would return again!

Not up to standard and not 5*

Let me get this straight from the start. This is not a 5* resort, possibly 3* at best. On our arrival, after travelling 14 hours from the UK, we were met at reception with a chilled glass of bubbly and after checking in, driven by buggy to our room. When the door to our room was opened, my heart sank. First of all, it smelt awful, a sort of damp smell and once inside, we were disappointed to find a dark, soul sapping room with outdated furniture and twin beds. We complained and were then shown another room in another block but this was exactly the same as the first. We were then shown another room in the adult section (where we had originally booked). This was better but still featured two twin beds. We had booked a room in the adult section with a King size bed, so we couldn't understand why we were not given this straight away. The member of staff stated there were no rooms left with a King size bed. I complained bitterly and then, as if by magic, we were taken to another room just along the corridor that had one. Unbelievable. I also noticed that the door to a storage cupboard situated off the first floor corridor was left open (throughout our stay) revealing several mattress stored inside. Just another example of attention to detail that was sorely lacking. After a restful nights sleep, we got up in the morning, had breakfast and then tried to get a sun bed round the adult pool but they were all taken. This set the seen for the rest of the week. To get a sun bed, you literally had to rise around 6am and even then, only a few were left. Breakfast on the whole was agreeable but the food buffets at lunch were shockingly bad, so every day, we travelled by buggy to the Sian Khan, where the food was so much better. In the evenings, you can dine at one of a number of a la carte restaurants but you really have to book well in advance, otherwise it was the buffet. The food in each restaurant was, generally, of an acceptable standard. The steak restaurant, where we also had breakfast, features a large, open sided awning which is way past its sell by date, covered in black spots and rust stains. Electric fans extend down from the roof but they are all in a very poor state of repair, having become rusty over time. It was also annoying to see birds flying in and out, often landing on tables to peck at food leftovers. During our stay, a film crew arrived on site without any warning from hotel management, and as a result, the steak restaurant and one of the buffet restaurants was closed to guests, to allow filming to take place, which was extremely annoying. On one occasion, the film crew parked a large lorry outside our room and set up a generator which, when running, was unacceptably loud and caused us to complain to reception. We didn't care much for the beach as there was so much seaweed, but to be fair, it was scooped up each day. When entering the water, you had to be careful to avoid the rocks which littered the seabed. The swimming pools, however, were fine and staff regularly came round to take drink orders, which was nice. However, on many occasions staff ramped up the volume of the music, which was just unacceptably and needlessly loud, so it was hard to lay down, relax and switch off. The standard of the drinks, especially spirits, was extremely poor. Gin never tasted like gin and we strongly suspected that they may have been watered down. There are plenty of toilets around the resort but some of them were in a poor state of repair, with soap dispensers hanging off the wall and in many instances, toilet seats were missing. I complained about this but nothing was done. And on a number of occasions, there was no toilet paper or any paper hand towels available. As mentioned, our room was okay but in desperate need of modernizing, (If you're from the UK, think Butlins). The air conditioning was extremely ineffective and again, in need of updating, which also applies to the furniture. We had a balcony but the view was disappointing as it overlooked a service road. The bath and hands towels were refreshed daily but were of poor quality, threadbare and felt rough to the touch. I also noted that rust was forming around the plug holes in the sink and whilst a ceramic tissue box holder was available in the bathroom, no tissues were ever provided. Little things but it all adds up and creates an impression that the resort has lost its way. On a positive note, we found the waiting staff to be very friendly and extremely helpful. There is also a wonderful coffee shop close to reception, which serves up a very agreeable latte and cappuccino and a selection of pastries. The weather during our stay was also fantastic, with an outside temperature of around 30C. I would like to reiterate, this is NOT a 5* resort as it is in desperate need of modernising. We have travelled to Mexico on a number of occasions and sadly, this resort was the worse we have stayed at. We simply would never return unless major changes are implemented.
