Fabulous holiday
Fabulous holiday to Bahia Principe Akumel. We stayed mainly in the adults only sections which was lovely and relaxing. Everything was spotless ! The room was cleaned to a high standard every day and had an evening turn down service . Every single staff we had a counter with was friendly and helpful. Gabriel the concierge in the adults only room block was so helpful and friendly. We loved dining at Katok restaurant and did every day all the waiting staff were professional but friendly. We especially loved Valeria one of the chefs who’s friendly and welcoming attitude made our holiday that little bit more special. 10/10 would stay again

Did not disappoint
We had an amazing stay which was only made better by the lively staff. Room was a bit old school but nonetheless clean ( we had housekeeping daily) We booked all our dinners in advance and had a really good experience. (They did offer a wine list but no one pushed to buy it) We had breakfast and lunch at Katok daily and it was amazing, varied, the servers were attentive and the chefs did an amazing job. Shoutout to sweet Valeria the chef providing us with much loved Mexican coffee. It’s not a party hotel and definitely perfect for couples who want to enjoy quiet, peace and serenity.

Pleasant location but definitely not luxury
You can have a pleasant stay here if you take away any expectation of luxury suggested by the name. We were given a room in the adults only block 83 close to the infinity pool, beach and new buffet/restaurant. The room was nice but small changes would have made such a difference - due to shelves in the wardrobe you can't hang long dresses or trousers and supplies weren't restocked when needed - one tiny soap isn't enough and you shouldn't have to wait 3 days for a new box of tissues! The beach was the biggest disappointment. We were looking forward to strolling along the white sandy beach advertised but it is in fact manmade and hard and stoney in many parts, so very painful unless you have water shoes. It is not well maintained so is strewn with bits of concrete and rock, broken sun loungers and discarded glasses and cutlery. Unlike other resorts we have stayed at, it is not swept regularly so again painful if you are not wearing shoes. I have never had so many injuries to my feet on a holiday! There is no regular drink service on the beach, even on the adult only or luxury sections - very occasionally, if you are lucky, a waiter will offer a drink in passing but this only happened to us twice in a two week stay. The speciality restaurants were generally good - apart from the gourmet Alux in Sian Ka'an where the food was cold and the service poor - with the Frutos del Mar seafood being our favourite. Sadly, the food in the buffets was always cold even when new fresh dishes were put out. We did mention this in the resort but were told that some guests don't like hot food and prefer it this way - not good for h&s and both of us were ill during our stay. The app is good but doesn't show details of the entertainment in the rest of the resort, so although you have access to all the shows, you don't know what is on where or when. Overall the resort felt under-staffed and on speaking to guests who have been before, it appears that a lot of the facilities previously offered have been withdrawn. We are not overly fussy and we appreciated that we weren't paying a premium price, but the standard is definitely not luxury and shouldn't be advertised as such.

Terrible service
I booked private transportation through my hotel, but the service was outsourced to a third-party company, and the experience was far from ideal. When I arrived at the airport, I had to wait nearly two hours for my “private” transport to show up. On the return trip, the company insisted on picking me up at 10:45 AM, even though my domestic flight was less than an hour’s drive away from the airport. This left me waiting at the airport for more than three hours. When I asked to be picked up later, around 12 PM, they refused, stating they had to pick up someone else along the way. To make matters worse, I found out from the hotel lobby that a regular taxi would have been half the price of this “private” service. As for the hotel itself, it was just okay—not remarkable, but we got it at a 50% discount, so we can’t complain much about that part of the stay. However, the transportation service definitely left much to be desired.

Amazing service , exceptional kids club. Building starting to show its age
While aspects of the hotel are clearly in need up upgrade /renovations the staff more than make up for it. Carolina in guest experience went above and beyond to secure a reservation for us at a busy restaurant. We can’t say enough good things about Joseline, Rebecca, Ingrid and Cuauhtmoc at Kids club. They are the most caring, professional, kind and Fun team members any parent could ask to have caring for their child. They ensured our kiddo (and us ) had a very memorable vacation. Last but certainly not least- the buffet dining room servers at “Yum” particularly Jose and Eric who went the extra mile to ensure a fantastic dining experience. All in all, we look forward to returning and seeing this incredible team at the Akumal. Bahía is very lucky to have such amazing staff! Thank you!🙏
