    Not impressed

Staff do not speak or understand English. Most completly none and some a little. Service was terrible. Very hard to get drinks and any restraunts onsite. 25min to get a coke and most times by the time we got our pops we were done eating. Staff were not friendly and didnt speak to us. Just a "hola" here and there. No staff stood out or cared to put effort in. All staff looked misserable and didnt provide any kind of service. Usually staff are really good to please guests, not the case here. Locked out of our room twice and had to walk to lobby in a down pour one time and was soaked. Far walk to add. The first 4 days of our trip we were the visible minority at the resort. It was over run with locals and a over abundance of kids. The buffet was a mad house and was clogged with the locals who pushed and shoved. My wife was pushed and had her plate slammed into her stomach. The locals seemed to have to experience we should have been having as they easily chatted up staff and we often saw them getting their drinks and water glasses filled while we sat there dry. Entertainment was great... but they had kids ebtertainment at 8pm just before main show at 9. So all the kids (and there was alot) sat in the front rows and stayed for main show. These were all the locals previously mentioned. They played on their phones while their kids ran rampid everywhere which made recording and enjoying the show impossible. Food was bland. Meats all dry. Saw the cook put under cooked raw in the middle chicken in with rest. No seasoning on food. Not one meal stood out and left me craving for more. Speciality restraunts did no better with long waits for drink. Chicken parm looked like a frozed cook piece of chicken. The app at other restraunt was a deep friend cheese. One piece smelled so foul i spit it out. It was 100% spoiled. Beach water was cloudy the whole stay (normal for here) sand gritty and beaches not cleaned. Seaweed and cig butts all over. Pool bottom dirty Resort flooded twice in the span of a hr. 1st floor rooms took on water. Our window leaked 2nd big rain and flooded our room. Rooms were big but need some fixing and cleaning up. House keeping skipped our room some days. Resort shuttled speed around resort and we had to jump off path one day to avoid getting run over. Our room was next to where they had entertainment and pool tables. They had loud music on untill 11pm and loud pool players kept up untill 1am. Then 7am we were awoken by people playing pool. Lounge chairs dont fully recline and were very old and uncomfortable. All and all not happy with this resort. Was not our choice to stay here. Our other resort got closed for renos.

    Perfect holiday experience

I have just arrived home after 2 weeks in Bahia Principe grand la Romana, right from the first minute I knew I had made a great choice Reception staff were very welcoming explained everything about the hotel and amenities, my room was in block 23 top floor with a great view of the pool area, Room was great everything was good and modern nice bathroom and plenty of storage Being a solo traveler I have always used the buffet restaurant, this was by far the best buffet restaurant i have been to in Dominican Republic very organised staff very welcoming, never had to wait for a table and the service was excellent by the waiting staff top food every time I was there always plenty of choice and food was great 👍 The pool area is great always plenty of sunbeds and you have a choice of area one side by the bar was bit quieter with no music, but I preferred the other side closer to the beach and the entertainment staff The entertainment staff were friendly and you never got bored every day party games around the pool area and beach area, Theodore Nikki and the whole team made my holiday, so much fun and energy all day and they were there at night as well for the shows in the theatre, I enjoyed the show's always entertaining, once every 2 weeks there is a beach party don't miss it very good entertainment don't be afraid to join in the fun The beach was great plenty of choice of sunbeds soft sand the water isn't crystal clear but was very calm,i used to walk the beach most days it is excellent and very safe Overall this was by far my favourite hotel in Dominican Republic a fantastic holiday i can't wait to return and spend more time with the staff who make you feel like a part of the Bahia Principe grand family See you next time for my birthday in November miss you all Tom xx

stay away and try another hotel

my honest review of this hotel , PLEASE GO ELSEWHERE . this is no 5* hotel at best a 3* (have stayed in better 3*) rooms need good upgrade although big things are falling apart , we had a low floor with pool view which is great if the patio doors locked and wasnt a big gap on otherside where it has been.forced open to break in . we had some stuff stolen and the hotel wasnt.bothered ( others had also)they said we do have guests who steal but.its upto you to look after your property which is disgusting attitude to have . food wise this is horrible very cold food served and cross contamination in a very bad way with utensils used for serving same being used by others for raw meats, fish etc or guests just using fingers to pick up various foods . pool area is clean and pools nice and warm ( as is weather) beach area well im not sure where or who took photos but it looks nothing like they say , dirty full of seaweed , sand flies and not what you expect or shown in hotel photos . bar staff are ignorant and tend to none english better or before english speaking , they never get drink order right even after telling them many times . best thing about this hotel is entertainment team they do try best but could do a very lot more for pool entertainment , aerobics in morning then nothing till around 3pm when zumba and waterpolo so is alittle boring inbetween . would i return no.never i would go otherside of island and try there being in the middle of nowhere you cannot go out of complex to look around or visit shops , yes shops are on complex but what a rip off $27 for suncream ,$6 for small tube of pringles , they sure know how to rip you off thats for sure. all in all weather beautful and hot , hotel one of worst ive stayed at

    Fun in the Sun

Overall trip was a blast! We stayed from May 13- May 19. Hotel was beautiful. We went with a group of 11. 6 kids ranging from 10-16. There were lots for them to do. They hung out around the pool most days either swimming, playing ping pong, soccer or participating in the games. The kids were also fine going to the buffet without an adult when hungry or to the swim up bar for a drink. The bar staff were awesome and they were happy to serve the adults and children. Most of the bartenders spoke pretty good English, but not the rest of the staff. Understandable. We were in their country and always able to figure it out. Everyone was patient with one another. All staff were great, except MOST of the checkin/out staff in the lobby. The person who checked us in was great. Food: We could only get into the Italian restaurant. Soup and salad were good. The pizza had a great crust, but there didn’t seem to be any sauce. As far as the buffet, I’d stick with the specialty of the night. For Italian night at the buffet, they had a pasta station. You pick the ingredients and they cook in front of you. Delicious. Asian night, they cooked the noodles fresh and you picked your sauce. I chose soy sauce. Really good. Spring rolls too. On Mexican night, they had a pork and chicken taco station, really good. We weren’t fans of the gala night. The other buffet food was repetitive, but the kids never complained. They also seemed to have something special for lunch at the pool restaurant. My mom loved the chicken wraps they had one day. I missed out. They also had al pastor tacos one day for lunch that were good. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GO TO THE LOBBY RESTAURANT FOR ANY MEAL WET OR EVEN DAMP. They will not let you in. They aren’t strict if you eat lunch near the pool restaurant. Pool: Some may be hesitant about one pool. Don’t be. I have been to several resorts and this pool was ginormous!!! A 3 in 1. Never seemed crowded and no one in your personal space, unless you like to hang out at the bar. Beach: the reviews are true. Beach itself is gorgeous!!! Palm trees everywhere. The water is not the best. Jellyfish warnings a couple of days. We took a trip to Saona one day to enjoy the beach. DO IT!!! Unreal water. Rooms: Clean and spacious. It was a nice surprise that the room had two doubles AND a twin. Kids were able to have their own bed. Nightly entertainment: If you’ve been on a cruise or to an all inclusive before, they all seem pretty similar. 70s, 80s, and 90s night was a fun show. Entertainment staff was always upbeat, fun, and amazing. We’ve stayed at the adults only back in November. If you see a bunch of reviews back to back to back, it may seem suspect, BUT after visiting, the entertainment staff spend a day requesting Google reviews from everyone. They aren’t pushy about it at all and make it fun. That’s why so many are short and sweet. Opportunities: Power outages/hot water: Yes, the power outages are real. We arrived on a Saturday. The power went out several times that day, but there was only one other time after that day. They weren’t long. Less than a minute. For the price we paid for the resort, didn’t bother me. 😂 We only had issues with hot water on the first night. APP: The app states that you can do all these things before arrival like book restaurants and pick your rooms, but nope. It didn’t not allow us to. Group: The resort should have made reservations for a group as large as us and if the times didn’t work, that was on us. We were all only able to go together one night. The last night because nothing else was available. They also had our 3 rooms spread out. We asked to be closer together and they were able to do that, but not right next to one another. I booked in advance all under my name, so I feel like the resort should have made that a priority. Games in the lobby: Pool is $3 and air hockey is $2. They had a coin machine that did not work for us the whole time we were there. The employees at the check in/out counter area seemed super rude and annoyed when we asked to exchange money for coins at the desk.

"Gringos" Not Wanted at the Bahia Principe La Romana

Where do I start? We traveled here May 6th- May 13th with an adult family of 12. This is third such trip we have done as a family since my brother passed away. It’s great way to reminisce and get together as a family. This is my 8th all inclusive, and have stayed with this chain in Punta Cana. That trip was fantastic, this one not so much. Lets start with the positives since that will take less time. 1) The grounds are beautiful and although the ocean is cloudy the beach is clean. 2) William in the buffet restaurant is truly amazing, he should look for another resort to work at cause he deserves better. 3) House keeping for us was great but for the other 10 people is was a mixed result. Now for the negatives. 1) Racism is alive and well here the Bahia Principe! We were constantly ignored at the swim up bar and now we know why! When we stopped tipping on our second to last day we were laughed at and called “Gringos” and "Kentucky Fried Chicken", as the swim up bar bartenders constantly served other people but us (happened all week). They literally served one person three separate times before even being acknowledged at the bar. Apparently “Gringos” are not welcome here. Every day we were told they were out of Vodka or Rum down at the swim up bar although others were being served cocktails with said alcohol. This happened from day 1 we were there. 2) Be prepared to be with our power multiple times through out the day and night! They don’t have the power capacity to keep up with a full resort. 3) Also be prepared to shower and lose water pressure (water literally stops mid shower) and good luck if you want it hot! 4) My mom’s fridge never worked the whole time here, so I guess that’s why they never refilled the bottled water in the room?! They spoke to the front desk about it and nothing was done. (They constantly try to remind you to drink water, although at times it seems impossible to get said water, keep reading). 5) Lunch and breakfast are a crap shoot getting served water or coffee, if William is working, then you’re good to go! If he’s not? Well don’t expect water or coffee served to you, Several morning breakfasts my wife and I were put in the corner of the room, ignored with serving us water and coffee, although everyone else around us was served. maybe it’s because we are “Gringos” but I’m only assuming. This happened to everyone in our family group all week! 6) The beds were sooo uncomfortable I had to actually cancel an excursion because of my back was in sooo much pain. I finally had to take the couch cushion that was in the room and sleep on that otherwise I would’ve been gone home after the second night. Hindsight, I actually wish I would’ve done that! One other couple in the group found the beds this bad as well. The other thought uncomfortable but they could tolerate them. 7) Really nit picky here cause the food was decent, but I love that they have themes for the buffet, only problem is it’s the same food every theme night, which as bad as this trip was that could be listed as positive…? 8) Amstar rep said he called our room ever day, but no one received a call, and we walked by him everyday, finally the night before we flagged him down so we knew when to leave on Saturday. We also found out we paid more for our family excursion with Amstar then if we walked down to the Scuba Shop. Same excursion, 40$ more per person. He was great at taking our money and booking our excursions, so I guess I could add that as a positive as well? Overall its a beautiful resort, beautiful area. We did the catamaran to Saona Island which was beautiful and amazing. Great friendly service and great pictures. I really never had a bad experience in Punta Cana and was completely shocked by this in La Romana. Needless to say we would never go back to this resort. Stay far away if you Americans!
