Nice place but NOT 5 star resort!

The beach is amazing but not enough chairs on the beach for all guests. Lots of available space on the beach so the resort can easily buy more beach chairs and add extra seats! It's ridiculous they overbook the rooms but do not care to get enough seating on the beach for everyone! Hotel management- GET MORE BEACH CHAIRS OR DO NOT OVERBOOK ROOMS! Be ready for very busy weekends with large crowds of locals checking in the resort. Service- VERY bad! Slow, they forget to bring things every time almost, not enough staff, need to get better training, getting drinks at the bar takes a VERY long time, drinks are pretty bad quality. Rooms- old. Food- not bad in buffer actually. A la carte- pretty bad! don't even bother. Entertainment is pretty good. To get coffee to have to wait in line in the sports bar- no designated coffee bar. Coffee machine is old and slow. We had a nice vacation but do not expect 5 start resort or service.

    Bahia principe is outdated

Unfortunately this hotel is very outdated (the way they function) and short staffed. Poor service at check in, wrong names assigned to the room. It took at least 1-2h to get some restaurants à la carte booked, something that you no longer deal with in a lot of resorts. Linda helped us at least. The rooms are so old that you feel like you are in Cuba in 2005. Bed uncomfortable. Washroom outdated. There is maybe 2 buildings with nicer junior suite rooms but how do you get them? No one knows. The main area is now renovated but not enough bars and staff. You have to wait a very long time to get a drink. One at the pool and one sport bar, which seems to little for the amount of people. Only one staff member was working very hard and always smiling, something you don’t see anymore, even in North America, I believe is name was Armando, not 100% sure, sorry about that. I believe he should be recognized for his hard work and professionalism. Thankfully a coffee machin was available in the sport bar. The buffet was ok, but very hard to get coffee and drinks since it looked understaffed. Restaurants à la carte were average. Food wasn’t as good as before. Fish market was the best. Lower your expectations if you have travelled to Mexico before. The quality of food went down significantly for the restaurants à la carte. They use an old system for towels. You need to bring a card to get one and bring it back to get the card back, we do not see this anymore in most resort. Again, it felt like 2005 all over again, The beach is fantastic, a great scenery. BUT you have to get up at 6 am to get a chair. Very annoying if you ask me. Chairs at the pool are also limited and with no shade. The water park for kids is nice and relax. Not many people goes there. My son enjoyed the slides. Bahia Principe could use a refresher. It’s either getting old or the customers are moving on to a nicer way to travel. Unfortunately I will not return to a Bahia Principe chain. We will stick to H10, Paradisus and Royalton chains.

A pleasant mid-range all inclusive, great beach, quiet & isolated location

A very clean and well maintained resort, peaceful & quiet. Friendly and courteous staff. Attracts a multi-generational crowd of French & English speaking Canadians and a surprising number of Dominican Republic residents. Good food at the buffet. Download the Bahia app and use it to book specialty restaurants as soon as you arrive at the resort. This is the fastest and easiest way to make specialty restaurant reservations. It's worth the extra expense to upgrade to a Junior Suite because they are much larger rooms than standard rooms. It's also helpful to pay $20 a week to upgrade to premium Wi-Fi, the basic free Wi-Fi is intolerably slow. Bring everything you need (sunscreen, candy bars, cigarettes, etc.) because prices at the store inside the resort are outrageous and there is no village or town nearby to make purchases at. I also suggest you pack a can of insect spray to knock down the mosquitos in your room before you go to sleep at night. Beware of very aggressive hustlers standing at the door of the airport bus demanding that you tip the porters that load your baggage into the bus. Air Transat Vacations needs to put a stop to this, the bus driver and Air Transit airport rep are obviously colluding with this person who stands at the door of the bus selling beer and harrassing guests for tips.

    Great holiday but

We’ve been here for 5 lovely days now. Great staff, terrific choices at the buffets and if you pick the right meals, the food is excellent at the restaurants. Our only beefs are the lack of organization of the bars (there are too few as well) and housekeeping schedules. As for the bars, there are no lines and it is way too easy for people to but in. There are bartenders but patrons are coming at them from all angles. Too confuse matters further, the wait staff have to make the drinks for their tables! Last night it took 17 minutes for our order for 6 drinks to come back to our table, which is way too long. Our advice: more bartenders and cordoned lines. Concerning the housekeeping, the lack of staff (seems like there are 2 per building of 30 rooms) makes it impossible for them to clean all the rooms in one day. So far we’ve had 2 days with no service. So the housekeeping problems also seem to result from a staffing issue. Maybe these problems stem from a loss of staff due to COVID. There is somewhat of a language barrier with staff even at the front desk so I thought that I’d make Bahia aware of these issues.

    Sun & Beaches in Samana

Stunning Beaches. Comfortable resort with friendly staff and ample rooms. The resort is beautiful and the food is quite delicious. The guest rooms could use updating including the air conditioning (ours required a tech to replace a thermostat). Best to download the Bahia app before arrival and reserve restaurants early or the selection will be limited. Lots of tours to try out - the quality really depends on the guide and their ability to speak English or French. We did take an ATV Buggy tour with Sea and Sun that was excellent (I’ll review that separately). Overall if you like long spectacular beaches, good food and good accommodation I’d recommend staying here.
