Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: 3-star, not 5.
Stayed: 23 January - 6 February 2024. Overall: While the resort has some positive aspects, inconsistencies in service and a lack of transparency regarding amenities detract from the overall experience. It falls short of expectations for a 5-star property. POSITIVES Breakfast: Good diversity and quantity. Gardens: Well maintained and visually appealing. Beach: Clean sand, ideal for walking. Sea temperature: Comfortable and pleasant. Restaurants: Rodizio (acceptable), Garden Grill (good). Lots of tourists of all nationalities and no problems at all. NEGATIVES Check-in: Express check-in was surprisingly slower than the regular line, and no welcome drink was offered. Main restaurant (Bouganville): While acceptable, the menu became repetitive over a two-week stay. Wi-Fi (2.4G): Signal strength was generally weak, except in the Sports Bar where it was very weak (or non-existent). Outdoor pool: Clean and spacious, but excessive noise levels detracted from relaxation. Service in the main restaurant: Service seemed to be affected by tipping. Guests who tipped received more attention, including water refills and table decorations, creating an uncomfortable feeling (implicit shunning) for others. Guests who didn't tip almost had to beg for water. We tip when we like the service, not to implicitly negotiate for good service. Lack of transparency: The purpose of the chip in the resort wristband was not readily available, and staff lacked knowledge when asked. Why shouldn't tourists have the right to know what the chip is for? Rooms: See some of our pictures of the room. On the ground floor (large) cockroaches visit daily. Sun loungers on the beach: Despite rules against reserving sunbeds, some guests reserved the front rows and by 9am there were no sunbeds available. Also, employees/staff held spots for multiple people, apparently through tipping. Unresponsive service: When requesting an umbrella during heavy rain, the response was delayed. After waiting for 45 minutes as the rain didn't stop, we had to use our clothes to cover ourselves from the rain and arrived at the restaurant soaking wet. Karaoke bar: The Wi-Fi signal in the sports bar was too weak to use the Karafun app, so users had to go outside near the disco, where Wi-Fi is available; after choosing a song, you have to run to the karaoke bar to sing it. This greatly reduced the enjoyment of the activity. Beach vendors: The frequent and sometimes aggressive sales pitches by the vendors were disruptive and unpleasant (about every 5 minutes a vendor asks you to buy something). ADDITIONAL COMMENTS We commend service manager Maria Polanco (as well as the Bahia Principe app assistant) for acknowledging the Wi-Fi problem at the Karaoke's bar, but unfortunately no improvements were made during our stay. Given the cumulative issues and lack of resolution, we feel a 3-star rating is more accurate than a 5 or even a 4-star rating. It was the third (and last) time we stayed at GBP Punta Cana / Bavaro / Aquamarine. We hope this review provides valuable information for potential guests.

DO NOT STAY HERE! We were here for a wedding. Our room didn’t have any air conditioning and ZERO Hot water or water pressure! I had to wash my hair in the bathroom sink and take a sponge bath before the wedding! Now Adult areas ARE nicer but we were traveling with grandchildren. I will say the wedding turned out very nice and the wedding coordinator Ruth was very helpful making sure the Bride and Groom had a special day.
Will not recommend this place!
The room we were assigned was horrible.....view of nothing but another room and the bed was harder than the floor. Change (at a big cost) to the only room left, a suite. It was beautiful and everything we wanted. The food everywhere we ate, especially in the buffet, was horrible! I know I lost weight. Choices for breakfast and lunch were few. The beach was small and very crowded. All information had to be 'scanned', nothing in paper, and we didn't know how to do that (we're old) so we didn't get any information about what was available, not even a map of the resort. Very, very disappointed and will not recommend it nor will be go back there.
The entertainment team is very good and the group leader is charismatic and radiates positive energy. The food is very good and the organisation satisfied. I would recommend this hotel voor vacation. Only not so many sun loungers on the beach and pool
An average experience
We have just come back from a week at this resort. It was great to see the sun everyday from pool side. I have read earlier reviews and while I thought some were overly negative, there were some valid points. First of all, the grounds are massive but very well looked after. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Some of the buildings have been renovated, some not. Our building had not been renovated and while it was “tired” it was maintained. Any issues in the room that we had, were dealt with very quickly. I cannot say the same about the front desk. There was no sense of urgency at any time! The pre-check in desk was not clearly marked and we did not see that desk until after we waited to be checked-in. When we arrived, they seemed overwhelmed by the crowd and check in and check out was slow. There were some staff that were extremely rude, while others such as Francisco were very helpful. The staff in the dining room where the buffet was served were amazing. They were friendly, and made sure that our coffee cups were full. The food at the buffet was ok. There was lots of variety, but you need to remember these people are cooking for thousands. It was presented well and if anything there was too much choice. The big disappointment were the a la carte restaurants. Our party ate at the Mexican - which we rated as ok, as was the Italian. The Greek on the other hand was a huge disappointment ! We ordered chicken kebab, we received half a wrap! The service was terribly slow and we ended up walking out and going to the buffet. There are mosquitos! We all were bitten, some much worse than others! Our son was certainly the feast for many mosquitos and the bites were like welts! Bring your bug spray! Finally, chairs and people throwing their towels on them. While there are signs that state not to reserve chairs, the sign is ignored.I am not sure what time some people got up to save their chair and then did not use them until the very end of the day. It was very sad to see. Perhaps, this chain could start something new, like enforcing this rule as they do at other resorts in the south. If you do not use your seat for 45 minutes, it is gone! As well, you do not go to the pool and lay your towel on a chair to reserve it. You choose your seat when you get there.
