    Hotel from hell

Well I start from the start when we arrived at this hotel. We wait for 30mins to be checked in which wasn’t that bad I guess but the person behind the desk looked like he didn’t like his job. No smiles no English no care. We got to our room and it was horrendous it was like we was in a 80s hotel room but not new. It was very shabby. Things broken and looked nothing what I would expect from a 5 star hotel or a 2 star hotel. The glass in the patio door was about to fall out, the socket near the bed was broken and fell out. The ceiling in the bathroom was about to fall down. It was a very cheap plastic covering. We had water coming through the bathroom ceiling. The staff was rude and had No customer service skills and wouldn’t talk English even though they can if they wanted too. The food was like eating cardboard. The drinks and cocktails tasted like chemicals. I have never been to such a bad hotel in my life. They hotel us having a major refit and we wasn’t told by our holiday company. Please rebook and do not come to this hotel from hell.

MAIN BEACH POOL CLOSED... Staff makes you feel like nuisance.

DO NOT COME HERE!!! Still here for rest of week, and want to leave for dozens of reasons...FALSE ADVERTISING... MAIN POOL on beach in ALL photos advertised, even on their own website (!) is CLOSED for renovations for a long time, a HUGE AREA. No note on website about it or on other websites! NO pool with view of beach, or bouncing from beach to pool...Want to grab food in swimsuit, NOPE bc snack bar at main pool closed, must wear clothes in buffet or beach buffet! Closest pool to beach is 15 min walk or wait for go cart tram to pick you up, minutes waiting for that, then the drive, then the walk. Nuisance with three year old to travel back and forth... Weeks prior to trip I contacted to ask if they do anything for our 5 year wedding anniversary also said happy to PAY for upgraded room if available... Hotel writes saying they would love to leave something in room. Have not seen anything, cheap champagne on ice? nothing. Roberson at front desk says at check in that tomorrow an upgraded room opens up and they would be happy to move us for free! He said pack your bags and come back at 5pm tomorrow, we thought wow thanks. We pack everything up and end day early from beach, no one at front desk has a clue. DISAPPOINTING as we packed up. Roberson not there. They then say manager not available. They then talk to three staff and after waiting hour bring us to another room that isn't an upgraded at all, SAME room, different area, actually with view of black construction mesh!! We said we'd rather go to our last room and went back. Waste of time packing and at front desk for hours changing keys back! Waste of our day from 5pm to 8pm!... Every STAFF encounter has ATTITUDE like you're bothering them and they hate their job, no warm smiles, and no language barrier bc we speak Spanish, and we are very patient and friendly. Takes 3 staff members to figure something simple out... Have SPENT HOURS waiting at guest (slow) service for things like stroller rental "come back tomorrow we will have one at noon"... We trek 15 min next day at noon to lobby, wait 20 min to speak with someone "oh no we don't have one". If you call, they tell you "come to lobby" yet never have it when you trek to lobby! We call to ask how babysitting service works since have adult dinner this evening "go to lobby to guest service" ok, we trek 15 min w 3 year old in tow, "oh no you needed to reserve it today around noon", couldn't person on phone just have said that to us so we didn't waste time?...ROOM outdated, broken lamp, drawers not usable, they are broken and fall out. FOOD is bland, just needs salt or spices but that's passable, however above encounters are extremely disappointing. Still here for next 4 days, hoping experience gets better. Only Positive is that shows are good. But not worth the trip. Avoid at all costs.

Pools are good, not enough loungers at the beach.

Thorough review after our return home... We stayed at Bavaro May 21-28th. I went with my adult children (F -21yrs, M - 18yrs). We each got our own rooms (for snoring and bathroom reasons, lol). Rooms - None of the requests I made for the rooms were honoured, but at least we were put in the same building. I paid extra for superior pool views but to get into the same building we missed out on that. They're at capacity, so I get it. Otherwise, the rooms were clean but dated. We had no issues with fridges, air conditioning or safe. My son's room (on the main floor was musty smelling), but my daughter's and mine were fine. There was a lot of hootin' and hollerin' throughout the night every single night, where I'd be woken up even through ear plugs. Not the resorts' fault, just some disrespectful guests. Beach- The beach was lovely looking; however, we were never able to find a lounger in the shade at any point throughout the entire week. This is unfortunate since I usually spend 90% of my time at the beach. We're super fair skinned and need to either be in the shade or up to our necks in the water. We stepped into the water twice but were otherwise unable to enjoy the beach area. Pools - We tried the Bavaro, Punta Cana and Turquesa pools. The pools themselves were actually great. We'd start at Bavaro (because our rooms were 50m away), if there were no loungers in the shade there, we tried Punta Cana, if none there, we went to Turquesa. We were happy with the pools. Bugs - I was eaten alive by mosquitos despite having DEET spray on. My son got a few bites, my daughter got no mosquito bites but a LOT of sandflea bites (which is strange since we spent so little time at the beach). I guess the whole thing has to do with skin/blood type? Bring spray, AfterBite and itch cream just in case. Food - Buffet was fine, Las Olas was fine. The fresh pasta, omelet and the waffle stations at the buffet were the best parts of the buffet. Turquesa (Las Corales) was the best lunch by far. The fried chicken, Alfredo, and calamari were all really good. We went back twice. For A la cartes: We did NOT enjoy Thali, which was unfortunate, we eat a lot of Indian food; I guess we're just spoiled. Garden Grill was good. Mikaido was also good, except the sushi appetizer, which was very dry and very tough (inedible), but the tempura looked so good, so I wish I'd ordered that instead. For drinks: I found everything extremely watered down and did not even remotely have a buzz at all, which is fine, just strange. Probably prevents alcohol poisoning and hangovers. The coffee machine in the lobby was fine, although I missed having an actual coffee shop we could go to. We all had a bit of an unwanted colon-cleanse, lol, some of us for a couple of days, but my son for the entire week (and he's not a fruit/veg eater, so it wasn't that). Thankfully, no vomiting, nausea or pain, just frequent and urgent trips to the bathroom. Staff- Most were fine, no issues. We had reservations at Mikaido and their system only caught one of us. They were sending us away, but we showed them the reservations for the other two on the app and they very reluctantly seated us. Other than that, Santa at the Bavaro pool was just such a smiling, lovely lady. She's my favourite. Excursion- We used El Buey, which contracts out tours. We did Full Day Extremo Punta Cana (which was horseback riding, ziplining, dune buggies, Macao beach, and Party boat). The first half was SUPER fun at the Eco park, but the party boat was very crowded and very loud. I made other reviews on Trip Advisor. I would recommend the first part, but not the second unless you're serious partiers. All in all, we had a good trip. The negatives were: bug bites, lack of beach chairs and the food did get repetitive. Positives were: pools, Turquesa (pool and Las Corales were a saving grace more than once).

    Wedding at Bavaria

Had a symbolic wedding at Bavaro resort. I had 25 family/friends members at the resort together. The resort was nice, rooms were clean. A few of us had air conditioners that dripped onto the floor (issue not resolved despite requests). Mosquitos were inside the rooms, bring bug spray. Cost of items in gift shop were outrageous (sun screen $30USD). Food was very nice, buffet had lots of variety, delicious. Restaurants were good. Wedding package was good, although some things not included (ie. package included 15 pictures but actually only included 15 pics of the ceremony and all other pictures taken with family and as a couple after were $10/photo). Late check out was “subject to availability”, although it didn’t say this anywhere. Make sure all people in your party stay at the same resort because guests from other resorts (ie. bavaro vs Punta cana) can’t eat at each others buffet: this caused problems. Wedding coordinator, Gaymi, was fantastic and gave us extras. Overall was beautiful.

Save more money and go to a nicer hotel

I am going to keep it very simple. Save a little bit more money and go to a nicer hotel. Thank me later. If you go, you will think about me the whole trip... This place is plain and simple horrible in every single way. The only nice thing is the workers. They are trying their best..... Ownership and management clearly do not care about anything any more. Furniture and rooms were already outdated probably 10 years ago. Food is bad Service is bad Pool by the ocean is under renovation Pool and furniture at pools and beach is all broken Maintenance and upgrade is something they do not understand in this place. Shame on Bahia Principe! So disappointed!
