    Never again

Omg!! Not a 5 star! Bed bugs! Staff sucks! Room service ( what room service) I took a shower ending up in a bath, the water wasn’t evacuating, and the smell after was disgusting! Will not recommend to anyone! Last year I went to riu bambu a 4 star and it was 5 times better!

    Not great

Just returned from this resort. There were 5 of us: myself, my boyfriend, and my 3 sons, ages 20, 10, and 8. I downloaded the BP app to do the express check-in. Don't waste your time as the check-in was just like any other check-in. We arrived at 3:05 pm. Hotel policy is check-in is at 3pm. We were told that our room would not be ready until 3:30pm. We checked in, got our room, and our bracelets that are used as room keys. They failed 3 times for all of us, resulting in multiple trips to the lobby to have them reset. Super annoying. The room was fine, nothing spectacular about it but we didn't take a vacation to spend time in our room so it wasn't a big deal. We did have a nice view of the castle, which was nice. We were in Villa #99. We didn't see the butler until the day before we left and then he asked for a tip...not cool. The staff was just blah. Not super friendly, just didn't seem thrilled to be there. Also, I made reservations for restaurants on the app. THE FOOD IS HORRIBLE. The buffet looks beautiful but don't be fooled, it's terrible. We ate at both brazilian restaurants, and the mexican restaurant. The brazilian (Rodizio and the other one) were at least edible since it was all meat but still not good. Again, presentation was great, taste, so so bad. Beach was nice, the kids loved it! No seaweed. The water was a little choppy the first couple of days but that was ok. Pool was very nice. Entertainment...bad. They didn't seem happy to be there and didn't bother learning their routines, just looked at the others for direction. No enthusiasm. The excursions were the best part. We did the Marinarium, Ziplines and Monkeyland. All were fantastic and really made the trip so much better. The resort is very big and you have to take trolleys to the beach. Not a big deal but I like to be able to walk to the beach. Kids Club was dumb. Teen club much better. The game room is a joke. Most games were broken and they cost $1 for each game. We might return to DR but will not return to this resort.

Don’t listen to the travel snobs—this place is worth the money.

Thankfully we ignored the negative reviews of Bahia Principe Fantasia. First things first…this is an enormous resort. There are dozens of building clusters, each with separate (huge) swimming pools, water parks for kids…swim up bars, music and restaurants. This place is so clean, so well taken care of, with attentive staff everywhere to take care of what you need. The maintenance on the grounds alone is impressive. The beach area has its own pool, restaurant complex with a huge amount of seating. There are areas for kids and teens. There are area for adults only. Just a few feet from our room is the pool area—one area is a water park for small kids—the other is an enormous adult-sized pool—with its own pizzeria and slushy bar. There are so many negative comments…I really wonder what people expect. We can’t find a single thing to complain about. Some common complaints that are simply not true: —staff is inattentive. They are friendly and attentive—always. —Buffet lacks variety and food is tasteless. Truthfully, there are so many choices, it’s tuff to make up your mind. They do a nice job. Serving hundreds 3 times a day ain’t easy—they make a remarkable effort. —drinks are watered down. Tell that to the lady we helped out of the pool. The drinks may be small…but there’s no limit..and almost no waiting. As an owner of a business…I can appreciate the awesome amount of effort and organization it takes to so so many things so well. These folks try very hard. If you’re looking for a clean, vibrant, fun-filled, reasonably priced, family-oriented resort, we highly recommend this place. I really wonder how they can do so much so well.

All the 5 star reviews are fake

We traveled as a family of 3. The only thing nice I can say is that the beach was clean and we enjoyed our time on the beach. Our daughter is 4 years old and we were excited about bringing her hereto enjoy the activities and amenities for kids. We HATED the food. This is the absolute worst vacation ever. The staff try to be nice, but they are not well trained and are completely clueless. Larimar Buffet: The first night I saw cockroaches crawling on another guest's high chair. I went over to her to let her know and she stepped on it. GROSS GROSS GROSS!!! The second night I saw more roaches crawling at the bottom of the bar at the entrance of the Larimar Buffet. In any other condition, I would have left but we had no choice as we were stuck with this vacation. The hot food is not hot. I'm pretty sure they bring out old food. I saw staff bringing out the food from the kitchen to place in the buffet area and I thought it would be hot, but it was all cold. We refused to eat cold food to help prevent us from getting sick. Nothing tasted good. Everything is bland. Even when we went to the staff that were grilling fresh meat, the food was flavorless and gross. We basically lived off of fruit, bread, and cheese. Even the pancakes and waffles were disgusting. All of the pastries are disgusting. I really don't know how anyone can enjoy the food here. The staff struggle to keep up a good flow of clean plates and cups available. I picked up several DIRTY plates and a server even brought dirty cup saucers to us. We asked for straws for all of our drinks and straws are not available at this resort, unless you order a special pineapple with a drink inside it. We also finally had a straw for our drinks at the Italian restaurant one night. The Gourmet Restaurant was good, the Italian was okay, and the Circus restaurant was okay. We didn't get a chance to visit the other restaurants. Staff: Confused, bored, and not interested. You must be patient because they do not really care to give service. We also had a difficult time trusting anyone. At every point, people just want to scam you. The bell boy ordered a taxi for us whom I'm sure was his friend. We needed a ride to the Bavaro Beach, which I read was 20 min away. The bell boy insisted we go to Macao and the friend took us there and it was a local beach that was dirty. We got scammed there to buy food from a menu that was overpriced. We ordered 2 fish and fries and they charged us over $100 because the weight of the fish was "apparently" 5 lbs and the price was $22/lb. They were not clear with us about this in advance.Total rip off. Reviews: The reviews are fake! I was asked by twice to write a review on the spot in front of the staff. My daughter enjoyed playing in the little toy castle beside the restaurant and the staff attendant asked me to open google on my phone and write a review. I told her that I will write a review for her later. Then she asked me to do it "right now beside me". I couldn't believe what I was hearing!! Who does this? Not me!! I didn't do it. Funny enough the next day, I saw other guests being asked by other staff who were dressed in costumes for "happiness day". Those guests were happy to do it and even announced "I'll write Luis is the best". If you are a well travelled person, who likes 5 star service and quality, this is not the place for you! The people agreeing to write these reviews have low standards and low value. At best, I can give this place a 1 star. My family was anxious to end our trip and just prayed that we would not get sick. Entertainment: All the pool side entertainment is incredibly lame! The evening entertainment is okay. Kids Club: Seemed clean and organized. We just took a look inside, but didn't use this amenity. I know that it is possible that we picked a bad hotel, but in general I believe DR is just not an ideal place to visit. I'll stick with Mexico and Jamaica for all inclusive and even Cuba (which also has terrible food, but better than DR).

    The honest review you need...

I stayed at Fantasia for 4 nights with my family. We are a LGBTQ couple, and I am happy to say that we felt completely welcomed and did not experience any discrimination (which can happen in traditional countries) People worth mentioning: - Kervin (Signed me up for the festival & made sure I had the best time by the pool) - Ramon (Provided amazing service) - Eury (Amazing server & the best cappuccinos) - Dinorah (Our poolside server, she was incredible!) - Jose, Pedro & Juan (My favs at the poolside bar!) Pros: - The (Staff) hands down is what truly makes this place a complete GEM. - The buffet food was warm, and the menu changed daily. - There were plenty of events to keep us busy and entertained. (Pool parties & shows) - The property is immaculate and was being maintained daily - Housekeeping was on point! - Room service was extremely swift under 30 min. each time - Played all my favorite bachata's (haha) Cons: - No ATM on the Fantasia property (You can take a quick ride to the main hotel) - The beds are hard! (My back isn't 20 years old anymore) lol. - The hibachi & Asian food was completely booked - The Italian restaurant took 1 hour to serve me my food :( - A lot of excursion upselling In summary, I would be back. Hopefully the beds are a little softer next time :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Espanol: No quedamos en Fantasia por 4 dias.
