Beautiful Property and Shows, Terrible Service

This hotel has a beautiful property and landscape, nice beach, large pools, and water park for kids. The daily activities and shows are excellent. However, the customer service is terrible from check in to guest services to services at the restaurants. We had performed an online check-in days before arriving and yet we were not allowed in our rooms until past 4 pm (check in time is 3pm). The food quality was way below average compared to other similar hotels and the service was terrible to put it lightly. Most employees hardly ever even smiled and if you asked a waiter for help many times he/she would simply look away. For my wife's birthday, I reserved a hotel restaurant at guest services days before for a 9:30pm dinner with our 5 year old daughter. I had also ordered a birthday cake at the hotel guest services to be delivered to the restaurant as a surprise. We were greatly surprised when we arrived at the restaurant only to be told by the Hostess that our reservation did not exist and that they were closing in 15 minutes so we had to leave. We arrived at 9:30pm sharp and had the email from guest services confirming the reservation. When I asked about the birthday cake I ordered they had no clue as to what I was talking about and they told me I could complain at guest services at the hotel. By the time we went back to the main lobby it was already past 10pm and every other dining options at the hotel was closed leaving us with no other option for the birthday dinner except order a hamburger by room service in our room. I made a formal complaint to guest services and again at the main desk of the hotel but received nothing else than a simple "I am sorry for your trouble". At guest services they told us that our cake was never delivered for some reason and was still at their kitchen and they would call us the very next day to offer us something to make up for the trouble but they never contacted us again. My wife had the worst birthday ever and cried all night. Fortunately, my daughter did not really care much about the food quality or service and had a great time at the pools and water park as well as the shows and activities and this made up for the terrible time us adults had.

    Fun in the sun

We visited Fantasia in January of this year, with our ten year old daughter, as well as five other families from our neighborhood. We had a great trip. The resort is beautiful, with very well-manicured grounds. Pools were clean and warm enough for swimming, and I’m a baby about cold water 😊. The beach is stunning, and we had no issues with seaweed. The waves were high every day, but the kids loved playing in them, and they weren’t dangerous. The water is shallow enough that they could play in the surf while never getting too deep. The ocean was also just cool enough to be refreshing but not too cold. We were able to get chairs on the beach or around the pool every day. We ate breakfast mostly at the Garden Circus, and found it to be more intimate with almost all the same foods available. We watched every show and enjoyed them all, but the circus show was our favorite. We ate at most of the a la cartes and our faves were the Indian and the Italian. Brazilian, Teppanyaki and Le Gourmet were also great. The castle light show is fantastic, but you don’t really need to see it more than once. For lunch we ate at the Fantasia beach snack bar, as well as Los Olas. Both were good. The fried chicken at the beach snack bar is to die for, and I miss it ☹ As far as some constructive criticism, there are just a few things. The pool decks are marble tiles, which look lovely but are VERY slippery. Be careful. Although all bar menus listed non-alcoholic beer as an option, they actually don’t have any. Disappointing for my husband who can’t drink due to a health condition. Decaf coffee sucked. They use only instant crystals. I was hoping for some brewed decaf, but no luck. The rooms are dated. They are spacious and clean but the furniture and bathrooms read very 90’s 😊. The beds are super hard. I requested a mattress topper three times but never ended up receiving one. The Garden Circus restaurant wasn’t good. Many of us went for dinner on different nights, and each time the food was cold and relatively unappealing. I would skip this one. Lastly, the app/email process for requesting things ahead of time did nothing. None of our group got the rooms we requested, either by email or within the app. Not the building we asked for, not the beds we asked for, etc. For the most part, we got it sorted out at check in, but it made me feel like the app process is basically a waste of time. Don’t be put off by the negatives though, we had a wonderful time and thing negatives are just small stuff. Go with a positive mindset, manage your expectations to DR standards and enjoy the sunshine and palm trees. I wish we were still there.

    Beware of bed bugs

We stayed at this resort January 11 to 19. Everything was beautiful and the staff were amazing with our kids. However, our family were eaten by bed bugs in our room. We were thinking they were mosquito bites, but the pattern and when they happened, at night when we woke up our feet were covered. I suffered days of itching and inflammation on my feet, over 100 bites combined. I want the hotel to be aware and treat our room number 98155 and any other rooms appropriately and also for all you travelling there to look out by inspecting your beds especially.
