    Do not recommend

    Was very excited to stay at this resort as the reviews were very pleasing, but our stay was not, we tried eatting at the Italian restaurant on the only night it was open during our stay but could not get a reservation and was told to just walk in but upon arriving at the restaurant was turn away because apparently they didn’t accept walkins like the concierge had told us, tried going to another restaurant which was supposed to be opened but it was closed so we were left walking around with our kids looking for food and ran into our guests with the same issue, there were roaches in our room and the app to contact someone was a joke they never responded, you had to physically call someone and room service took forever, the kids fell asleep one night waiting on the food to arrive, I do not recommend this place unless you are a member bc maybe then u would get better service

    Good Hotel, Minor Niggles

    This is a great hotel with some minor niggles that should be easy to overlook. While the resteraunts are good. They're not all open everyday and that can cause queues. The beach has quite a bit of sea weed, but I genuinely believe the staff try their best to keep it to a minimum.

    Family holiday

    We've just got home from our time here (14 nights) as a family of four (children 11&8). Great hotel for a quiet relaxed holiday. It's small compared to some of the hotels in cancun but it's been great fun. Rooms are spacious with the spa bath and are kept pristine by staff. The grounds are maintained really well and pools constantly been cleaned (family pool could do with a bit of a spruce up) The beds and pillows are really large and comfortable too. Spoon (buffet) had plenty of options for adults, our children eat like adults so we are fortunate that way. Fresh chicken, steak, tuna & salmon cooked there daily for lunch and dinner. Occasionally tacos too all cooked infront of you. For those with picky eaters I could see it been a struggle as I don't think I ever noticed the likes of fries or hot dogs etc. Breakfast has plenty of options too. Eggs/Omelette freshly cooked infront of you, decent sausage and bacon, then the smoothie guy too making a wide variety. Would like to say our favourite restaurant was the Zocalo (Mexican restaurant), made extra special by such great service from *Guadelupe*. He made us all so welcome not only in the restaurant but also around the hotel as we passed, He made time to speak with our children and make them smile! *Thank you Guadelupe!* Plenty of options in the mojito bar and pool bars with branded named spirits on offer. Also the mini bars in your rooms are filled daily and are handy. Down sides to the hotel is that the beach has been tuck over by seaweed. Tirelessly removed by staff but it's a constant struggle for them. We live close to the coast in the UK and for us it was just normal. Can't say the smell was that bad where we felt it made any impact on our stay. All of our family had whatever bug was going round but tried to make the best of it. In Spoon (buffet) they constantly cleaned the area where you get your food from and changed the serving spoons compared to other hotels we have stayed in so I wouldn't like to even try and guess where the illness came from. We had to move rooms when we arrived and were put in block 3 floor 4 (top floor)facing the Caribbean restaurant and the noise from weddings wasn't very good especially when there was a wedding reception on the roof. After 3 weddings In 4 days we asked to be moved and promptly moved and upgraded to block 4.(family block which im surprised we wernt just put there in the first place with been a family) If you are going with children. Pack swim rings lilos pool toys etc even medication such as paracetamol and imodium as said a thousand times the on site shop is expensive. Yes you cant walk out of the hotel due to its location but this is not strange in Mexico, more than this hotel has a long drive way through mangroves so please don't think it's only this hotel. All in all we've had a great time it's not a Tui prestige 5 star. I would say 4+ but it still is a lovely hotel where you are not like cattle at dinning times. Hopefully the hotel realise guys like Guadelupe deserve credit for making a great impression on the tourists in there hotel.

    Not a beach resort - poor food hygiene

    We visited the resort at the end of May beginning of June for 10 nights, 8 of which we were ill. The food hygiene in this resort needs some serious attention, I have never been so continuously ill on a holiday. We couldn’t figure out what had caused either of us to be ill which makes me think it is an overall hygiene issue. On return to the UK we have continued to be ill, meaning we will have to see a GP for antibiotics. Because of this we only made it out for evening entertainment once in our whole stay and didn’t drink or eat properly for the majority of the holiday. A waste when you go all inclusive. Whilst we were there the resort continuously posted stunning photos of the beach with clear white sand on their Instagram. I can confirm this is not at all the case. Although the staff work very hard shovelling away the seaweed it is a huge problem and false advertising that this is a beach resort. The beach is almost overtaken by the seaweed, you could probably access about 8 foot of sand and then it’s all seaweed. The smell of seaweed is incredibly overwhelming and hits you as soon as you leave the buildings, something you do get used to. I understand this is due to an earthquake a few years ago however I think the resort need to be honest with guests and not continuously post old photographs which look nothing like the resort does currently. It is incredibly misleading and if you’re wanting a beach holiday this is not the place for it. The prestige members thing is a bit weird, a section of the resort is cut off exclusively for prestige members. Again it didn’t seem to include anything additional to what non prestige members get apart from a towel on your sun lounger and a personal concierge. We loved the Italian restaurant and actually ate there 3 times during our stay. This is the only restaurant we had to book ahead of time. Jorge was great and went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our meal. Pizza pizza was also lovely, made to order stone baked pizza and fresh salads. Would highly recommend stopping by for lunch as this is much better than the buffet restaurant. I would recommend going a bit later on to avoid the lunchtime rush otherwise the wait can be quite long and as it is outside it has no air-con. We wouldn’t recommend visiting the Mexican, the food is basic at best. Very disappointing considering this is the national cuisine. Although the restaurant is beautifully decorated, this was not authentic Mexican food at all and looks very similar to what is served in the buffet restaurant. When we walked in a staff member took a photograph of us without asking, they then tried to sell us two shot glasses with our photos on for £20. We paid this but were caught off guard and on reflection wouldn’t buy again -it felt very random and a con. All the restaurants except the main buffet restaurant and pizza pizza are incredibly well air-conned. If you wake up early enough you can see a beautiful sunrise from the resort. We walked to the top end of the seafront side and it was stunning. Definitely recommend this! One thing I will rave about is the staff in the resort, everyone is very lovely and extremely friendly. Genuinely couldn’t do enough for the guests. Unfortunately one of the cleaning staff broke something in our room, we noticed it was missing a few days before we were contacted by reception letting us know it had been broken. We were disappointed it was just thrown away and almost hidden rather than leaving a note to let us know straight away. On check out they wiped all the fees off of our room which included a starbucks drink and environmental fee. The resort shop is quite frankly extortionate, I am shocked they get away with charging so much. We paid £17 for two packets of crisps and £6 for some M&Ms. They also wanted over £30 for some suncream so definitely bring enough if you are coming and some snacks. Due to the resort being in the middle of nowhere it’s your only option to get things unless you leave and pay crazy prices in taxis. When checking in you are each given a towel card and told where the towel hut is on the map. We were surprised that this is also where they try sell all excursions for outside of the resort. It felt like each time we went for a towel we were ambushed and encouraged to sign up for a trip which are all mega expensive. I think this needs to be re looked at. You can get a lot of the trips through ‘get your guide’ for a fraction of the price. Generally the resort is nice, definitely aspects of it which are tired and dated but on the surface it is okay. Although not the 5 star we imagined. The rooms are clean and spacious. Handy if you get ill and spend the majority of your time in there like we did!

    Avoid Avoid Avoid

    Avoid this place. 1. There Is No Swimable Beach. Just mounds and mounds of seaweed. 2. The restaurants are not air-conditioned. Just fans. 3. Trip Advisor is blocked on the hotel wifi. Could not access from the time we arrived until our departure 5 days later. 4. Raw chicken and fish are displayed in the open at room temps of 80+ degrees. Food safety is not a priority in any restaurant. Mainly at stir fry stations. 5 of the 8 adults in our group got sick over a 5 day period. 5. Rooms are very nice and spacious. The only big positive. 6. Room service wait times are very long. 4 hours for a simple bucket of ice one day, 5 hours the next. 1 hr minimum for most orders. 7. Pools are large and clean. They are also old, with many broken tiles. Two of our party cut their toes on the pool floor. 8. Staff very friendly, courteous, helpful. 9. The fitness center is wonderful. 24/7 and just the right size. 10. Every time you get a pool towel, you have to go to an excursion marketing cabana. You are solicited constantly for add-ons to your "all-inclusive" vacation.
