Fargo
The arrival of the Northern Pacific railroad in the mid-1800s made Fargo, North Dakota the "gateway to the West," and it has been growing steadily ever since. The state’s largest city, it sits on the banks of the Red River across from its sister city, Moorhead, Minnesota. Three nearby universities make it a cultural center for the region, with several theater and music groups and the largest art museum in the state. Fargo residents aren’t intimidated by cold winters, celebrating an annual Winter Carnival every year since 1928.
