Binghamton, New York is located at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers, just over the border from Pennsylvania. It earned its nickname, “Valley of Opportunity,” due to its history as a transportation and industrial crossroads, which includes being the birthplace of IBM. The city’s heyday at the turn of the 20th century is still visible in the architecture of the Historic District, while its ethnic diversity is evidence by the variety of cultural festivals held throughout the year. Also known as the Carousel Capital of the World, Binghamton is home to several rare antique circus carousels.
