*Important Information for our guests*
The Dominican Republic imposes various restrictions each year for Easter. The restrictions usually begin the Thursday prior to Good Friday, and run a few days past Easter Sunday. The following regulations may be enforced:
*Motorized and non-motorized watersports may be banned
*Alcohol consumption may be restricted (most resorts obtain a special permit which enables them to serve alcohol to non-native persons during the ban)
*Music may be limited or silenced
These rules are designed for the safety of everyone, as beaches get extremely busy during this period.

MONEY HUNGRY HOTEL! They will CANCEL your booking with know explanation!
I didn’t even managed to go there! Booked the hotel for £3900 for 9 nights through booking.com. After a few weeks after booking the price of the same rooms shot up to £6220. After this I got weird emails from them saying my credit card was incorrect and to update it with a new one, I did, and the next day same details to update the credit card happened, changed it to a new card (all cards work fine btw, as I am using them for other hotels in the Dominican to stay at in the same period), shortly once I updated the details again. I got an email that the hotel cancelled my reservation, after speaking to booking.com and them calling the hotel they said they cancelled it for a private reason they can’t say. And when I called to the hotel the woman I spoke to said they can’t do anything about it and just need to re book at the higher price instead of honouring the price I booked it at, and if I need to do anything I have to speak to Jason the supervisor who I have been hard to get hold of. But o short they cancelled my booking after they realised I booked it too cheap and they wanted me to pay more for my stay! Absolute joke and their staff are a joke I am glad I am not staying there if that my experience already and I haven’t been arrived there! STAY AWAY!

Great one-night stay! (other than the terrible Check in)
A short one night stay due to a flight change. We like this brand and once we dealt with a disastrous 1.5 hr check in - everything was better than expected. We had the same issues checking in last year in Costa Mujeres - a terrible computer system and the staff seem completely unprepared to deal with anything. Including payments and even seeing the notes made while booking on directly on their own Catalonia's website (which I've done twice now). After a complicated room switch we were thrilled with our room. The pool, grounds, beach and restaurants (including the beachside buffet) were lovely and we'd consider returning with our 10 year old. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. We ate at the Tapas and it was very good. Pur Bar for the Privilege guests was GREAT.

10/10 recommend! Childcare great
This was such a beautiful vacation! The grounds were so massive, clean, and accessible. Everyday there are new activities and events everyday! There was such a variety of food and beverages and the staff was so welcoming. We greatly enjoyed the day school there. They had activities everyday, from painting, ice cream parties, piñata parties and other events where the parents could participate as well. The teachers, Kenia vitay racquel Karen were especially attentive and caring. My children fell in love with them and I’m they have me peace of mind as a parent to fully enjoy myself.

Lovely holiday, absolutely beautiful resort!! 🌞 🏝
CATALONIA We stayed in Catalonia for eight nights in a ground floor Privileged room. The hotel on a whole was fantastic, one of the best we’ve ever been to. The resort is so beautiful, we loved the gardens, the little lake and it’s stress free area where you can just enjoy watching the ducks, the birds, the fish or read a book. We loved the wide sandy beach and all the palm trees. It felt like a real paradise! The staff are kind and warm, they work so hard and are happy to help with anything you need. Many thanks to the staff at La Palapa restaurant by the beach, who made our little girl’s 2nd birthday so special. They helped by organising a birthday lunch for her and her holiday friends. They all sang happy birthday to her, provided a cake (with the help of guest services), and made sure the adults were having a great time also! The entertainment team were absolutely fantastic, the best we've ever seen in any of the resorts we've been. They didn’t hold back when accosting you into activities and they never seem to tire of dancing! They were particularly great with our Daughter and organised a Birthday applause for her at the pool party. Thanks Ricky! Finally the Mr Catalonia show was by far the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in a resort although, I was very pleased I wasn’t a contestant! Things to be aware of before coming: A)- If you like to tip like us, it’s far easier to arrive with plenty of $1 and $5 bills as opposed to bigger notes as changing to smaller currency in the resort is a real challenge. This is even more difficult if like us, you arrive with Dominican Pesos, in the typical large notes provided in a currency exchange. Despite going to reception around twice everyday, only once were they able to change one of my larger notes to smaller ones. This meant that in order to tip, I would have to negotiate an exchange to dollars with the bell boy, and then return to the front desk for a change to dollar bills. This clearly took time away from relaxing and became quite frustrating as we like to tip for the great service provided. B)- The hotel and its guest would benefit from having more than one baby change facility at the beach area. The only one provided was at the side of La Palapa beach buffet. The hotel also seems to slightly lack public restrooms. C)- It’s quite difficult to get an early cup of Coffee (prior to 1000 in the morning) without going to breakfast at one of the buffets, or walking around half a mile, from the beach to the Coffee shop in the resorts shopping centre. Of course you could make a coffee in your room, but the beach area would benefit from a coffee shop. Perhaps coffee facilities could be added to the juice bar? D)- While the restaurant staff do a great job at taking care of you, the method of sitting the guests could be improved. Rather than simply finding the guests a table and then leaving, it would be better if water was offered immediately, followed by a drinks order. It was often a struggle to get someone’s attention for some water, coffee, wine etc. Often you’d ask a waiter/waitress for a cup of coffee, and wait five minutes due to a lack of clean cups. There was also on occasion, not enough plates and bowls in the buffet areas. Simply buying more coffee mugs and plates would be a very simple fix for the hotels management, and would help its lovely staff provide an even better service. E)- For families, it’s unfortunate that the hotel doesn’t allow children under the age of four to participate in the mini club, even with parents in attendance. This was a bit of a shame as there’s very limited activities for young children without attending the mini club. F)- There’s an abundance of sun beds at this resort however, around the pool area, there’s a sincere lack of shade. While a lot of people do like to leave their vacation looking like they’ve been through a toaster, this isn’t the case for everyone, especially families with children. Another simple fix, as a suggestion would to simply provide more umbrellas, perhaps one per four sun loungers as a minimum and not one umbrella for 20 sunbeds or more.. Overall we had an amazing time at Catalonia, it's a very beautiful resort. Special thanks to Gemelin and Daomeris (apologies as I’ve probably spelt the names incorrectly) who were both great! These lovely ladies worked in the South side of La Palapa during our stay and they were always so nice and friendly and they made our daughter's birthday very special. Also many thanks to Elizabeth by the Privileged beach bar who was so lovely, always making sure that we were ok. Thank you to Felix, the beach boy at the Privileged area and thanks to all the nice and friendly staff who were happy to help and made sure we had a great time!

Great Value
It’s an older property and the standard rooms are dated. They don’t have a lot of outlets for charging phones. The tv channels are limited. But. The landscape is established and fantastic. The property is beautiful and has charm. The food is fabulous. 5 star quality food. I’m a well traveled person and very familiar with all inclusive resorts. At Catalonia you get 3 meals a day not 2. They don’t try to get you to buy expensive dinners like most resorts. You can drink and eat all day. Whatever they lack in modernization they make up for it with the food. They have two buffet courts. One by the front desk and one near the beach. My hats off to the chefs. The staff is friendly and helpful. The staff was courteous and never gawked at my wife which is rare because she is a model. No crude words. A well run property. Thank you.
