Problem checking in
Playacar, I didn't mention mine main grief, I thought it was a Booking .com mistake, but now I have doubts after reading similar reviews. We were also overcharged $1000 for our rooms upon arrival in Feb2024. Even had my documents showing confirmation number with lower price. Called credit card company and was advised to pay and enjoy vacation and dispute charge when I got home. My Capital One card has been very helpful.
Great Vacation .
The Bartenders & Waitsaff were excellent. Beach area is very nice, lounge chairs were available everyday. Food was very good everywhere we ate. Alcoholic beverages were great, not waterdown. Maybe the best I have had anywhere I have stayed. There were 4'of us on this trip and no complaints from anyone. Only negative is the layout of the resort, most rooms do not have a view of the beach or water. Overall a great resort for the money.
Beautiful hotel, kind staff & beautiful wedding set up!
We stayed at this resort for my son and daughter in laws wedding. The resort was beautiful. We had a gorgeous end room, it was large and had a beautiful view. The wedding set up was so pretty and the private dinner they had that evening was perfect. They did a great job keeping it private and other people away, the view of the pool and ocean at the dinner was really nice and the dinner they served was delicious. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and the staff was really kind. They have so many different choices of food and places to eat. I would definitely stay at this resort again and highly recommend it.
Poor service - ripped off and strong armed into paying over $1000 more than quoted.
**Review of Riu Playacar** My recent stay at Riu Playacar was marred by a series of disappointing experiences that overshadowed what could have been a fantastic vacation. Traveling with a group of twelve, including our family of six, another family of four, and two newlyweds, our excitement upon arrival quickly turned sour. The check-in process set a negative tone for our stay, with one of our friends being charged over $1000 more than the quoted price. The attendant's rude demeanor and condescending attitude only added to the frustration. Despite our protests about being charged for a child that was supposed to stay free, we felt strong-armed into paying the extra amount, leaving us feeling cheated and taken advantage of. The disappointment continued at meal times, with the buffet offering limited options and poor quality food throughout our stay. Additionally, the lack of entertainment and ambiance at the resort left much to be desired. For the amount we paid, the overall experience fell far short of our expectations. To make matters worse, we were not informed about the transportation arrangements for our departure, causing unnecessary stress and panic on the day of checkout. It was unacceptable to be left in the dark about such a crucial aspect of our stay, especially after the issues we had encountered earlier. Despite these shortcomings, there were a few bright spots in our experience, notably the exceptional service provided by individuals like Jorge and Antonio. Their kindness and assistance went above and beyond to make our trip memorable, despite the resort's shortcomings. Antonio even helped us out on his day off in Playa Del Carmen, which was greatly appreciated. In conclusion, while Riu Playacar has the potential to be a great destination, it falls short in terms of management, food quality, and entertainment. Unless significant improvements are made, I would hesitate to recommend it to others seeking a truly enjoyable all-inclusive vacation experience.
OVERCHARGED $1200 CDN upon Arrival
I am in love with the country of Mexico and its vibrant culture. I am a RIU class member, we got married in the RIU Santa Fe in Cabo in 2010 were we brought 63 guests to the resort. We have stayed in RIUs in Puerto Vallarta X2, Mazatlan X1 and this would have been our 5th stay in a RIU and it WILL be our last. We booked our trip on Nov 19 with our 2 daughters ages 10 and 7, and 2 other families, so 12 travellers in total. When we were booking, the deal was KIDS STAY FREE, and we reserved the room expecting to pay $3114.77 Canadian- also understanding the possibility of exchange rates to fluctuate. Upon arrival and much to my surprise, my room was 54,846.30 pesos, which was $4325.92 Cdn. The man at the desk was completely dismissive and ignorant, first he tried to tell me that the exchange rate may have changed, I said to the tune of $1200? No way. Then he said well, there is 4 people in your room- I argued that we booked with the offer of kids stay free and showed him the screenshot of our booking which I will attach here, showing "kids stay free". The man was annoyed and said "well my system here shows you owe 54,846.30 pesos but I will call the call centre and see what they say". While on the phone with the call centre, he was speaking in spanish thinking we did not understand, he basically said the price of our room that day - Feb 14 was $63000.00 + pesos and if we want to keep disputing they will charge us that days rate! We felt like we were blackmailed- either pay $1200 more than you were quoted or you will pay $1900 MORE ! If we weren't there with 2 other families I would have promptly taken my kids and left. I have never had such dismissive and rude costumer service and will never stay with RIU again.
