Friendly, relaxed, low key
We flew into La Romana and the resort is not far from the airport, so you don't have to sit on a bus for long, which was nice. The resort is nicely set out, not too big but big enough to feel you are not just at a hotel. There are many pools and loungers, lots of dining options, and a lot of very friendly, helpful staff all over the resort. The room we had (in Preferred Club) was very large and comfortable. It was in need of a little repair but nothing serious that prevented us from enjoying our stay. The specialty restaurants do not require reservations, you just go, give your name and wait to be seated. We never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes. Food variety was decent and the food was good. The staff make the resort. They are everywhere, always smiling and helpful. The beach has nice soft sand and turquoise water and there were plenty of loungers if you didn't mind walking down the beach a bit (2 minutes). The loungers closer to the beach entrance area (near the pools and restaurants) were harder to get. The entertainment staff worked very hard and the shows at night were a pleasant way to end the evening.
A good hotel overall
We had a good stay, but we really didn't like the visit to a medical center with our kid as they scared us beyond measure with diagnoses that were not correct or sustainable. We ended up paying 200+ for nothing. So I would recommend to stay away by any means. Otherwise, it was a good stay in a beautiful place with customer service been wonderful. We indeed felt well taken care of.
Generally said, the resort is OK. The buffet variety is not bad. The coffee shop is cute. The worst restaurant I've been lately is the French Cousin. The best restaurant and bar for us were the Beach Preferred Club restaurant/bar. We are thankful to our travel agent who made us buy the Preferred Club package. Don't even think to go there not to be a Preferred Club member. The beach experience there is not good. Not enough beach chairs located under a shadow even on the Club territory. You must reserve chairs no later than 8 am. The chairs are old and dirty. The sea entrance is tricky and steep. The evening show were surprisingly good. The best part of staying was the personal. Most of the stuff is kind and friendly. We were very please with our butler Zoraida. She had us move to an excellent room once we complained that the room that we got as the Preferred Club members had a bunch of small issues, including the ants. She had been very helpful thru our stay. Any question-ask Zoraida either personally or thru the What’s Up application.
