Great trip. Longer review.
Had an amazing trip. Stayed from Nov 16-26. Gonne give some tips within the review. Give some cons along the way. Check in was quick and easy. Stayed in swim out room which my wife and I used every day. Swim out pool was clean and we seen it being cleaned by staff. ROOM: We were given a 2 queen bed room but they are doubles. (Not standerd queen size by North American standards). Beds are very firm but you can request a bed topper from the butler which are stationed in every block. We were in block 60 (60116). This was closest to the pool and beach. Very modern room. Very clean. You will need a plug adapter. Only 2 standard plugs in room. Patio door does not have a handle on the outside so keep it open a bit or you will have some trouble opening it. Shower was HOT every day and great. Shower gel, shampoo and condioner provided. Mini bar stocked with beer, vodka, rum, pop and water every day. A/C was good and set to 22.5°. The temp is locked in but again talk to your butler if you want it set lower. GROUNDS/RESORT: The grounds are kept beautifully and the Ambar part of the resort is small enough to easily get around. The grounds staff are continuously grooming and maintaning the building (painting/repairing) every day. There are shuttles to the other part of the complex but can be easily walked. We went to the shopping village and casino (slots take Ameican currency) one evening and it took only 10 minutes to walk there. FOOD: We ate at the Palmyra (buffet), Limbo, Portifino, M.E.A.T. and Las Brisas (beach buffet). I want to start by saying all the reviews that say the food is just average in my opinion are crazy. The food was all amazing. 5 star all the way. Palmyra: your standard buffet with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lots of choices. Had seafood night one evening with grilled lobster (so good). Limbo: great drink bar with amazing drinks (get the amaretto apple) that are all great. You can go to the bar without any resorvations. Went there many times for pre-drinks before going to other restaurants. Limbo food was amazing. Great steaks made perfect to order. Amazing atmosphere. Portifino: great pasta, pizza and seafood options. Had the prawn risotto and was so delicious. Wife had chef special pizza that was so large she could only eat half. Tried a slice and was great. M.E.A.T.: Had the steak dinner and again made to order (medium well) and was perfeclty cooked. Grilled salmon done amazing with geat flavours. Las Brisas: This is the pool/beach buffet. Had breakfast here every morning and some lunches. Egg station with eggs done any way you want with many different ingrediences for omlets. They have the freshes honey you could ever have. A honey comb in a box dripping honey in a bowl (AMAZING!). Bacon every day along with fresh fruits that were so good. POOL/BEACH: Like some other reviews I would agree (unfortunatly) that if your not there early loungers around the pool are reserved. Seen this every day and seen loungers reserved with no people all day. Got up early on one day to do a pool day (had swim out room so only went one day). Pool was very clean in the morning but by the early afternoon the pool had a scum on the surface that was not appealing. Beach was well maintained and had no issues getting a shaded lounger. Great beach bar with great drinks. BARS: Lobby bar, pool bar, Limbo and beach bar all had premium drinks ( need to request premium liquor). Never had any issues asking for the top shelf liquor. Reviews that say drinks are watered down have no clue what they are talking about. Watched bottles being cracked open in front of me and free poured at an abundance. Vodka brands like Smirnoff, Sky, Absolute and premium dominican brands that were awesome. In closing my wife and I had and awesome time and its up to you to make your vacation. It was hot, sunny and all the staff made this resort a 5 star experience. In my opinion, dont listen to the nay sayers. This place is awesome!!

Great week at Bahia Principe Ambar
Fantastic vacation! The staff are amazing and want to do everything to make your stay memorable. Our room was kept up beautifully all week by Nertonia Oolivar. Service at the coffee shop and lobby bar was impeccable! The buffet was well stocked and A la carte restaurants were delicious. Great entertainment daily by the pool including daily exercises in the pool and foam parties a couple of times per week. If you want to feel spoiled Ambar is a great choice!

Bahia Principe “not luxury”
As per my headline title this holiday resort in my opinion is not a 5* Luxury hotel, and I will here are my reasons why. 1, only decent service received from the bar staff when tipped, drink selection poor especially around the pool areas, the beer was definitely watered down, cocktails full of slush ice and sugary cordial. Drinks orders were forgotten by bar staff members on numerous occasions and not enough staff to cope leading to 10 min waits for a drink on some occasions. 2, The hotel bars ran out of alcohol numerous times, ketchup & mayonnaise not available at lunch? 3, the room had a leek in the ceiling AC system which dripped, the mirror was hanging off the wall for two weeks even after reporting it after day 2 never fixed, the hairdryer didn’t work and had to swap it, the mini bar was only filled up when the maids had any stock and I had to ask them to do it, only for them to say you need to ring reception? 4, the food was hit and miss in the Al Cart restaurants, we thought Meat & Limbo were the best, however some courses were far from gourmet. 5, The entertainment started too early , who wants a foam party at 11am for an hour?? Too loud and repetitive. Now the positives:- 1, The hotel rooms are cleaned daily and spacious, the hotel grounds are beautiful and immaculate, the staff are constant and hard working. 2, The entertainment team are great and always out on a show and many daily & nightly activities were put on and generally good. 3, The beach was nice and seaweed was cleaned up and kept to a minimum we only noticed it bad on one day from 14, also the weather in general was great. 4, The coffee shop was a cute addition and served nice coffee & snacks up to 10.45pm. 5, The gym was decent and not too busy especially in a morning. 6, The food in general was good and there was plenty of selection/options in both Buffett restaurants. Would we return yes, however if you want peace and quiet and a relaxing time this won’t be what you get , however you will have plenty of fun for all ages.

Not so good
So definitely not a 5 star. The good first!! Staff are wonderful and try hard. Rooms are spacious and clean. Lots of selection at restaurants. The bad Ran out of booze!!! You pay for premium drinks and you can’t get them. Not 1, not 2, but at least 3 days so far. The buffets are decent but they feed the masses. Don’t expect great. It is mediocre at best. The a la cart are plenty but food is not always good. In my opinion if you pay for a 5 star they should be striving to satisfy. Definitely would not return to any bahia based on my experience. I am a frequent traveller and would rather spend my money elsewhere
