Fine hotel, less than fine experience

Room itself was good. Dated and worn like scuffs on walls and furniture. View was fantastic though - ocean view in rainbow tower is highly recommended. No water for the coffee maker and using tap water tasted kind of fishy. Not sure if it was due to the tap or the coffee itself (or both). Ate breakfast at both Bali and Tropics on site. Food was good and servers were very friendly and helpful. Bali is more “traditional” breakfast menu and Tropics had more options like açaí bowls. Elevator lobby in the rainbow tower was always crowded and the one time it wasn’t, a tour guide wearing a 3rd party name tag (as in not a Hilton employee) used her clipboard to box out my 6 year old so she could get on the elevator first, and nearly hit him in the face. I get that she doesn’t work there but it’s definitely not a good look for the hotel and it certainly impacts this review of the hotel/stay. Finally, we forgot said 6 year old’s electric toothbrush in the room and somehow they aren’t able to find it. Seems like very little effort went into looking for it considering the lightning-fast response we received stating “we don’t have it”. Overall the hotel is fine. We probably won’t return to this one next time as there are dozens of options within walking distance along the beach where I feel like the overall experience would feel more worth the price paid.

This is NOT a Hawaiian vacation

Honestly the hotel looks amazing in pictures with a lot to do, but we happened to go during a rainy season and it was terrible. I don’t mind the rain at all, but the problem is NONE of the pools are heated and we’re all FREEZING cold. And because of the rain most of the restaurants were closed! Anytime you ask a question, you get vague responses or pointed in a different direction. And PARKING is outrageously priced!!! $70 a night…. Talk about a scam. We barely got to experience anything. Absolutely terrible. If you’re looking for a nice warm Hawaiian vacation, this isn’t the place. Would not recommend.

    Not a great Hilton property

This resort felt chaotic and super touristy. Fortunately we only stayed one night. Normally I have been happy with Hilton stays in the past but this one was subpar. From the long lines at check in, the construction going on and the slow limited elevators it was one disappointment after another. The pools were freezing and crowded, with just two small hot tubs that were packed with people. The room itself was adequate and the beds comfortable but I found a forgotten sock under a curtain and some safety pins on the ground so I wasn't super confident in it's cleanliness. We could hear our neighbors coming and going and people in the hallway. After paying what we did I expected more, and then we are taxed on more than just the total room rate. Expect to have several fees and taxes added on each individual thing. They taxed us on the $75 early check in and the $50 "resort fee" separately from the room rate which of course was also taxed. There is a room tax, county tax and excise tax. So keep that in mind. There are several towers and you will have to walk through the outdoor mall to get to the tower where your room is located. I wish I had known this before booking. I won't be going back.

Worth the splurge - beautiful beach and great amenities

Lovely resort right on the beach, with a thriving nightlife and amazing amenities. The buildings are a bit dated, but everything is clean and well-maintained. It's outrageously expensive, but that seems par for the course for Hawaii. But there is immediate beach access, a big centrally located pool, and lots of fun to be had just steps away. Would definitely love to come back here one day.

    Dark, depressing, and isolated

I’m writing this from the Westin down the road. My entire family was having such a miserable time at the Hilton Hawaiian Village that we had to check out early and switch hotels to salvage our vacation. First, the good: * Upper floors of the Rainbow Tower have amazing views. * The lagoon is a great place for young kids to play in the water without having to worry about waves. * Management was pretty responsive to my concerns and willing to waive our resort fees. Unfortunately, this was outweighed by the bad: * My room was very dated (it had a DVD player) with a worn-out uncomfortable spring mattress and a loud A/C that turned off for no apparent reason every few hours. * The location is shockingly awful for being in Waikiki. Any shopping or dining outside the resort requires a 20-30 minute walk. * The grounds are way too dark and depressing for Hawaii. Lots of concrete and confusing dimly-lit maze-like passageways. * Really long waits for the elevators in the Rainbow Tower. The system makes you enter your floor to call an elevator; during busy times the cars fill up and have to make extra stops for people who couldn’t get on, which slows them down and quickly snowballs into a disaster. * Staff that refused to accommodate basic requests. Need housekeeping after 2pm? No can do. An extra set of eating utensils at dinnertime? Not at this hotel. * The pools, which were supposed to be a main selling point of this hotel, were just okay. The main center pool is big, but still feels crowded because of how huge the resort is, and it doesn’t have much shade which makes it unpleasant on hot sunny days. * Random pitches for the Grand Vacations timeshare next door, which was tacky and annoying. If you want the Waikiki experience with lots of shopping, food, and nightlife nearby, stay farther down the beach because this isn’t that. If you want a huge picturesque resort that you never feel like leaving, other islands have far better options. If you want to make your family frustrated and depressed on vacation so they don’t bug you about going to Hawaii anymore, look no further.
